UK - December 2019 General Election

BBC news Business Editor Simon Jack says Supermarket execs have told him Matt Hancock has “totally made up what he said about working with supermarkets. We haven’t heard anything from govt directly.
Hancock said last night on Question Time "We are working with the supermarkets to make sure that, if people are self-isolating, then we will be able to get the food and supplies that they need."

There's a surprise.
Straight from the Johnson book...say any old **** to keep people happy, who cares if it's a lie or not.

Straight from the Trump playbook as well. The Tories have fully embraced the GOP's tools and techniques.

Johnson's been doing this crap for decades, though.

I mean, so has Trump, but it's not as if it's new for our arse of a PM or anything.

For all people say he is following Trump's style, we shouldn't forget Johnson has been unashamedly lying to his constituents for decades. Truth and Johnson have never been best of mates.

True. IMO the crucial, Trump inspired, changes are:

  • Brazen lying (with stupid lies, easily disproven) is now government policy
  • Attempts are being made to exclude the press, who are increasingly being labelled enemies of the state
  • Blind loyalty to the leader is being placed well above party influence or competence when it comes to selecting ministers
  • Attempts are under way to undermine the independence of the judiciary and civil service
  • Experts are being replaced by partisan hacks in important roles

Not just his constituents, after The Times fired him for lying The Telegraph picked him up and sent him to Brussels where they encouraged him to continue. And that was before it officially became the Conservative Party Newsletter.

He has an 80 seat majority, and has already purged the party of many of the real Tories. There's a larger-than-ever number of loons and yes-men these days.
Though the simmering backbencher revolt over Huawai's involvement in UK communications infrastructure has shown that even the yes-men has their limits.

I doubt it'll come to much, though.
Their numbers seem rather small at the moment.
And, of course, they say they're not planning on defeating the government...

The Coronavirus is exposing the Tories. Gone is their contempt for experts and the civil service.
The liars can’t lie their way out of a virus.

Now we’ll all see the results of austerity and cuts to the NHS and other services over the last ten years.

Provided voters blame the right people. A lot of people blame Labour for things the Tories did or think that Alexander Boris de Pfeffle Johnson is "Anti-Establishment".

Some in the Pub are blaming the EU and 'foreigners' for the virus getting in to the UK.

Presumably those foreigners who decided to go skiing in Italy at half term then randomly emigrate here rather than go home?

No, it was the horrible foreigners in Italy who were the problem. If only they'd all been English then there'd have been no problem.

Ahh, in that case they should all go.... Hold on, they're there already:confused:

I know, they should take control of their borders and keep us out!
