UK - December 2019 General Election

As Johnson changes wives and girlfriends like I change underpants, how long do we give wife no 3?

I suppose that depends on whether or not No 10 is able to sweep Ms. Arcuri sufficiently under the rug.

Then again, that sordid little affair was during the previous marriage, so maybe she's cool with it. After all, she wasn't the one being cheated on :)

Well the press certainly seems to be inclined to help bury that and the rest of Johnson's sordid relationship history. The stories about it in the Sunday papers are playing up the romantic angle.

Nice timing, though, to try and push the news about a senior civil servant resigning and lambasting their minister off the front page.

If the Russian interference report can be conveniently forgotten I'm sure there's space under the rug to sweep this.

Well with Wife Number Two being 'let go' and Official Girlfriend being promoted to Fiancee an entry level position has been created.

Hhmmmm, that moment at the Tory Party when Johnson brushed Javid aside (in an utterly humiliating, literally offhand, dismal) in order to kiss Priti Patel... I mean absolutely no evidence to suggest this is the case but would anyone be surprised if that was the reason he's actually showing some support for a female colleague? It would be more in character than, say, loyalty.

Peston asked Boris about how low paid and zero hours contract workers will be supported, they won’t self quarantine if they face eviction. “We’re going to keep all options under review” is the plan apparently.

It's painfully clear that pretty much everything is being made up on the hoof whether it's surprises like Coronavirus or things that the government has had plenty of time to prepare for, like Brexit. I suppose that's what happens when your leader is lazy and doesn't like to prepare.

I couple of days ago I caught the tail end of a BBC interview with Boris Johnson where he was being asked about what the public should do w.r.t. Coronavirus. His response was "There will be an announcement tomorrow".

If Coronavirus really is that big a threat to the nation (some left-wing commentators are suggesting that Boris Johnson is bigging up the threat to distract people from other matters and to give an excuse when everything goes to pot) then why not give the people an extra 18 hours notice of what to do ? The clear implication is that Boris Johnson had no idea what would be in in the announcement because the government were scrambling to catch up - and as Captain_Swoop's post suggests, the advice was incomplete and half-baked.

I don't think he's necessarily 'bigging up' the threat, but it is convenient timing for him and the economic damage that the virus seems very likely to cause will undoubtedly be used to carry the blame for failures of his economic and Brexit policies.

There is talk of suspending parliament for up to 4 months to 'protect' MPs and Westminster staff.

Didn't take long for Boris to get to be Fuhrer.

A lack of parliamentary scrutiny at a crucial time in the Brexit negotiations - what could possibly be wrong with that

Or "Lord Protector".

Seriosly, a lot of his own party would be pretty pissed off it that happens.

Interesting if he is, since Trump has been playing it down.

He has an 80 seat majority, and has already purged the party of many of the real Tories. There's a larger-than-ever number of loons and yes-men these days.

Trump has economic interests that Boris doesn't. Tourism and hotels are likely to be hit very hard.

And Trump has an election i nNovember at which he really needs the economy not to have tanked.
