Should we fear Bernie?

I also suspect "give" is more like "offer".

No, "provide"

Under this plan, corporations with at least $100 million in annual revenue, corporations with at least $100 million in balance sheet total, and all publicly traded companies will be required to provide at least 2 percent of stock to their workers every year until the company is at least 20 percent owned by employees. This will be done through the issuing of new shares and the establishment of Democratic Employee Ownership Funds.

Edit: several of those proposals go further than Corbyn's Labour party.

Bernie's platform mandates ALL publicly trades companies and companies with $100 million or more in their balance sheets to do the following:

-give 20% of all stock shares to workers.

-45% of all board members must be elected by the workers.

-yearly diversity report to make sure women, minorities, gays, handicapped have more representation on corporate boards.

sorry, but this isn't Capitalism. It's pure Socialism.

True socialism is when the government owns the means of production. Sanders isn't talking about anything like that. He just wants the benefits of capitalism to be shared with the people whose labor produces the profits.

His thinking is quite a bit more complex than you have described:

I’ll admit to being a little disappointed that my kids have apparently not thought out their position very well.
I think your kids should be a little disappointed in you for apparently not thinking out your position very well. "What specifically makes you think that what works there will work here?" is just not a very good question unless you can clearly state what specific historical, cultural, demographical and economical differences might prevent things from working.

I don't think the differences are so huge that the US couldn't do something similar if it decided to stop giving gazillion dollar tax cuts to bazillionaires.

Ah, you suggest that a gazillion dollar tax cut isn't enough? Let's triple that, and see how that works. We can cut more later if necessary! --every damn US politician

Bernie deserves a lot of credit for moving the needle on healthcare. The public option is more widely accepted, I think, due in large part to Bernie. However unless the Dems take the senate -- by more than one -- even that will remain a pipe dream.

So long as the money goes to private corporations and not the actual military itself. Raytheon shareholders deserve money far more than some soldier.

No, you stop that nonsense. It makes perfect sense to keep spending 120 million dollars a year to buy tanks the Army doesn't want because seriously who is the Army to be telling us they have enough tanks....

Sanders is winning even if he doesn't get the nomination - at least where it counts.
The Biden Program is very progressive, a direct result of Sanders pulling the Party to the Left.

I'm just so tired of the establishment dems looking at a difficult problem and giving up before they've even started. The defeatism baked into the DNC is so bleak.

That, my friend, is a feature, not a bug. They're a corporate owned entity. They're not actually looking out for anyone poor.

I think that has more to do with the party as whole coming to the realization that attempting to work with Republicans is pointless. IMO he hasn't embraced any of Sanders ideas he's simply abandoned any of the placeholders intended as middle ground in future dealings with Republicans in Congress.

How do middle class in scandinavia feel about that tax rate?

I think they probably believe it leads to a low crime, low public disorder, high healthcare, high happiness, high quality of life country, without the need for gated communities, food banks or foreign doctors turning up in the country to offer the healthcare that isn't available locally.

Oh, they probably like the maternity / paternity leave they get and the five weeks paid holiday time.

I imagine this list could go on for quite some time.

Leading happy, healthy lives isn't something Americans want. Stop shoving mad foreign values on us!

Again I get that there is absolutely no way to say this without it coming across as some treacle nationlistic "'Murica! Love it or leave it! Yee-haw!" type screed but again we are sort of reaching the point where if "Well so and so country makes it work" is the answer to everything, questions as to what about America we are trying to save or preserve do start to be put onto the table and... why on a personal level, not as a moralistic judgement but as a simple question of personal effeciency "Well why not just move to Sweden if everything they do there is better then the way we do it here" start to become less avoidable.

I'm being 100% serious here. Wouldn't just moving to Europe just be easier if everything they do is better and nobody is going to fight you when you want to do it that way?

I don't think they would have me.
Nor Canada.

I think it is more patriotic to try to make your country better than just settling for whatever happens to it.
And, of course, more patriotic than quitting it for a more attractive country.

When your house is dirty do you a) move to a new one or b) clean it up?
