The Trump Presidency: Part 18

Trump Tweets

Today I opened a major Apple Manufacturing plant in Texas that will bring high paying jobs back to America. Today Nancy Pelosi closed Congress because she doesn’t care about American Workers!

We manufacture apples? And here I thought they grew on trees. Silly me.

ETA: Trump is lying:
As part of its commitment to US economic growth, Apple today confirmed that its newly redesigned Mac Pro will be manufactured in Austin, Texas. This latest generation Mac Pro, which was unveiled at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference in June, will begin production soon at the same Austin facility where Mac Pro has been made since 2013.

This is not a new plant; it's the same plant just refitted to manufacture the latest Mac Pro.

Ah, but the people who point that out that the plant dates from 2013 are foiled by President Trump who said that he’s been pushing Tim Apple Cook to locate plants in the US since before he was elected.

Oh wait. That’s just explaining one lie with another lie.

Yes.

not quite.

A Bain -Marie is indeed a waterbath mainly used as a temperature buffer between a hot oven and the thing being cooked, or as a means to hold food at a hot temperature without getting it hot enough to burn.

Water boils at 100C so if you put a creme brulee for example, in a bain marie
inside an oven it takes a lot longer for the temperature of the brulee to get over 100 degrees. (egg starts to denature and coagulate at around 70C so without a water bath, if the oven is too hot it's next to impossible to cook a creme brulee in a "normal" oven.*)

A souffle mixture is basically "eggy foam" and when cooking souffles in a bain-marie the water does 2 things. first it prevents the souffle mix from getting too hot too fast and secondly the steam generated increases the temperature of the oven and the ovens ability to transfer heat. This hotter temperature helps the souffle to rise faster, as well as setting the outside of the mix crispier to hold it's shape.
Things rise when the tiny air bubbles contained within the mixture increase in size. The hotter the air temperature of the oven the more the bubbles can expand before the protein chains in the mixture solidify and lock those bubbles into place.
(you introduce steam into an oven when baking bread for the same reason, to increase the air temperature and 'carrying capacity' of the air to make the bread lighter and it's crust cripsier.)

* In more recent times commercial kitchen equipment has a lot greater degree of control over temperature. You can now set an oven easily to cook something at less than 100C, as well as inject steam on demand, so nowadays bain maries aren't used that often.

Ha! This talented amateur stands corrected. I love learning more!

Next lesson: Sous vide.

And that right there folks is the face of a 21st Century President as he looks at machinery in a computer manufacturing plant.

Underneath the scrawled notes from Air Force One he read from was a printed out tweet.

Aside from his grasp of the UI/abstraction layer of his phone, all of this stuff is just utterly foreign to him.

"little tiny bits of thing" I think is how he put it.

That's worrying :(

By rights, this whole impeachment process should have President Trump buried in the polls. Even if it were just a fishing expedition, you'd think that associating the President with impeachment would drag his numbers down. The fact that there appears to be a slew of reliable evidence to support the allegations makes it even more concerning.

The Democrats need to win states like Wisconsin, but the fact that their leading candidates are trailing someone like President Trump with his failure to enact his policies, his disastrous trade wars, his personal legal issues and his inability to know very much should be a major danger sign. Whether it's hyper-partisanship, low information voters, the lack of voter excitement about the Democratic front runners or a combination of all three, the Democratic Party is in big trouble if it cannot beat this President.

To poke at a couple things tonight...

Vindman to Fox: Take back your smear that I'm a spy and a traitor

That he needs to do this in the first place is already an indictment of Fox News.

Lock her up? Nikki Haley reportedly used BlackBerry 10 to send 'confidential' messages during crisis

It was during a crisis, but... cybersecurity matters.

Mike Pence all of a sudden can't recall if he talked with Sondland about Ukraine aid being withheld

After Sondland dropped his bombshell statement, Pence is officially in play. So now we've got this now. Pence might suddenly recall if presented with more hard evidence, of course.

I just had a vision of the gods in Clash of the Titans moving their human pieces around on the chessboard.

Thanks for the link. It was quite informative.

The original written denial was “the VP never had a conversation with Gordon Sondland about investigating -yadda yadda and he was never alone with Sondland.”

A rather pointed denial. Of course, Sondland didn’t say there was a conversation, he said he said something to Vice President Pence. And the ambassador never claimed to be alone with him.

VPOTUS then said that he doesn’t recall any discussions with Sondland.
Isn’t being able to recall critical discussions that occurred less than 90 days ago a requirement for presidents and vice-presidents?

It's an expectation, not a requirement. Of course, this is Pence that we're talking about, regardless. A guy who made a proud announcement about what was basically a state news media outlet, then two weeks later, after backlash, was asked a question about the state news media outlet and declared that this was the first he'd heard of this so he couldn't really answer the question.

Not at all, "failing to recall" is a great way to seemingly deny something that definitely happened without committing perjury. ;)
