The Trump Presidency: Part 18

In the UK we have an apolitical Civil Service which just carries on as ministers come and go. I gather it's very different in the US, with Presidents making thousands of political appointments which an incoming President has to replace.

According to the United States Office of Government Ethics, a political appointee is "any employee who is appointed by the President, the Vice President, or agency head". As of 2016, there are around 4,000 political appointment positions which an incoming administration needs to review, and fill or confirm, of which about 1,200 require Senate confirmation.
That's from Wikipedia.

ABC is as bad as the rest of them. Journalistic standards are nonexistent today. The press is so dishonest that we no longer have Freedom of the Press!

“What the hell are @ABC editorial standards? @ABC smeared Kavanaugh with 40 year old hearsay. No corroborating witnesses, no evidence, no pictures, nothing.” @JesseBWatters #EpsteinCoverup

If that's the Veritas guy he's got a pair of brass cojones to talk about standards.

Nikki Haley has written that former S of S Tillerson and C. of Staff Gen. Kelly tried to "recruit" her to "undermine" Trump. They feared for the country because Trump didn't know what he was doing and that 'people would die' if he wasn't kept in check.

This shows just how worried even the highest cabinet members were about Trump. That in itself is telling and just how bad it is. I do wonder if Tillerson or Kelly is "Anonymous".

We'll see how worried they were if they campaign against Trump next year. If they don't, they can rot in hell.

Does that matter if the sources are cited and they're credible?

Wikipedia says that Elizabeth I died in 1603. Is that any less true because Wikipedia says it?

Here's the next sentence after the one I quoted:
These positions are published in the United States Government Policy and Supporting Positions (the Plum Book), a new edition of which is released after each United States presidential election.
Since the Plum Book is a public document, you can double check it yourself.

And guess what Nikki? It turned out that they were correct...

Trump's instability and inability to understand the consequences of his stupidity, has cost lives.

Haley: "Here is an example in which I showed extremely poor judgement by not taking action when credibly warned by senior White House officials that the President was a danger to the country."

As an aside, I see little difference between “America First” and “Deutschland Über Alles”. Both have the potential to turn malignant - and one already did.

I disagree. I would argue that both have turned malignant. The difference is that one got bad enough that a serious anti-cancer intervention became necessary and happened, while the other simply hasn't quite reached the point where such an intervention became necessary - yet.

If that's the Veritas guy he's got a pair of brass cojones to talk about standards.

It is.

Not that it's necessary, but William Saletan eviscerates the argument that Trump was actually trying to fight corruption.

One test of sincerity... is whether you target corruption wherever it exists, or only in countries where it suits your interests. Trump flunked this test. Volker, during his Oct. 3 testimony, was asked whether he had ever heard Trump express “concerns about corruption in any other country besides Ukraine.” He said no. Sondland, during his Oct. 17 deposition, was asked whether he knew of “any aid being withheld to the other 28 countries in your portfolio under President Trump in 2018 or 2019.” He said he didn’t.

Another test is whether you call politicians corrupt when they’re actually corrupt, or only when they do something you don’t like. Again, Trump flunked the test. Sondland couldn’t recall any attempt by Trump to withhold aid from Ukraine last year, when the Kyiv government was plagued by corruption.

If Iran is able to turn over to the U.S. kidnapped former FBI Agent Robert A. Levinson, who has been missing in Iran for 12 years, it would be a very positive step. At the same time, upon information & belief, Iran is, & has been, enriching uranium. THAT WOULD BE A VERY BAD STEP!

A great new book just out, “The Plot Against the President. The True Story Of How Congressman Devin Nunes Uncovered the Biggest Political Scandal In U.S. History.” Shows very bad and corrupt people on the other side. Check it out!

If only there was some kind of agreement with Iran over nuclear technology.

Has some word mill been churning out books that could have WH insiders attach their names to? This sudden upsurge in "literary" output seems a little too convenient.
