The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

A lot of people are calling it a transcript. But it's really notes transcribed after the the fact. We have no way to know what might have been omitted or revised.

The real question is why a presidential conversation with a foreign leader is not recorded. I would think that would be essential, for the president's protection if nothing else. You don't want Putin etc. claiming the president said something he didn't.

What'sApp lacks a record function? I mean it isn't like this administration has been remotely obeying normal communication protocol.

It reminds me of this webcomic about the difference between bribery and lobbying
.
"I will give you "x" if you do "y" for me" is bribery.
"I will give you "x" because I like you. If you don't do "y", I'll stop liking you" is lobbying.
In this case, it's more like the difference between extortion and diplomacy.

If the other part is much stronger than you and might potentially do you serious harm, it is not lobbying. Then it is extortion.

The defense of Trump is always expansive but paper-thin, I guess that's the nature of gaslighting, etc. The Ukrainian president seemed perfectly fine with the phone call in his presser with Trump just now, but of course that's how, to use Adam Schiff's phrase, the Mafia works.

Irrelevant. Both Trump and his on call troll brigade will just argue since he didn't use the exact words "I, President Donald Trump, am asking you, the foreign country of Ukraine, to perform this action solely for the sole purpose of illegal and evil benefit of my own political career, I do solemnly swear. I make this statement of my own free will. I'm Donald Trump and I approve that message" along with a notarized transcript and a picture of Trump giving Ukraine a cartoonishly oversized novelty check with "To Screw the Biden Campaign" written in the "For" comment part, it doesn't technically count.

To be fair, this is only a summary of the transcript of the call, and not the actual transcript itself. Still could be there...

Yeah. Aside from the mentions of Biden in that summary, the one thing that stood out clearly is the Ukrainian president's clear intent to suck up to Trump. If he'd kissed any more ass he'd have left lipstick on his phone.

The knows flattery will get him everywhere with Trump.

"As far as I'm concerned, Nancy Pelosi is no longer Speaker of the House." - Donald Trump, earlier today.

That's not how this works Donald.

Look.no matter is the Dems come up with a smoking gun, the Senate is not going to convict.
The main thing the Dems hope to accomplish is doing severe damage to Trump politically with the undecided voters, and they are off to a good start thanks to Trump's bonehead thinking the phone transcript is going to make him look good to anbody buy his braindead supporters.

And that sound you hear is the President of the Ukraine backing away from Trump now that this has blown up in his face.

One thing a commentator noted is the number of ellipses in the document.

Ellipses: The "yada-yada-yada" of the written word.

It's been stated by the White House that those represent pausing or trailing off while speaking. We've heard how Trump talks when he isn't carefully following a script.

Trump just now at the podium:

"So many leaders came up to me today and said, Sir, what you've had to go through.." Nothing heralds a Trump lie like "Sir,..."

Nothing quite like a U.N. pity party.

There is something wrong with this person.

It really is amazing how many world leaders were seen prostrating themselves at his feet. Roses and trumpets heralded his arrival. A million doves were released. Ah, to live in a world of one's own imagination. What a tool he is.

He's now claiming again that China is paying "billions and billions of dollars" in tariffs. It's no longer possible to believe nobody has explained tariffs to him; there's still a question about whether he's lying or self-deluded.

The best decision of my day was not tuning into that mess. It's my day off and it would have been ruined.
