The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

I honestly think the whole "looking orange" thing is his (speechwriters' ?) failed attempt at self-deprecating humour.
Only in the sense that may have been what he briefed the speech writer to say, there isn't much evidence that Trump ever uses self-deprecating humour.

I had a call today with Prime Minister Netanyahu to discuss the possibility of moving forward with a Mutual Defense Treaty, between the United States and Israel, that would further anchor the tremendous alliance....

....between our two countries. I look forward to continuing those discussions after the Israeli Elections when we meet at the United Nations later this month!

I'm not happy with Biden at all. The reason is Trump. Biden will not have the ability to debate Trump live. The debate will be a disaster to Biden. The independent voters already know what they get with Trump, and it will be embarrassing for us Democrats. With Biden as the alternative, people will still vote if they hate Trump, but the turnout will be better for any of the other Democrats.

Is Trump perhaps pushing for this Biden candidacy?

I'm sure he'd rather debate Biden than Warren.

That's something I'd expect to hear on North Korean TV.

From the way he looks, I'm thinking Heavens Gate cult.

Aw, man.

I'm too tired and wrung over to do a light bulb joke right now.

How about this instead?

Trump, the golden caged canary in the depths of the coal mine of democracy.
No one goes down there anymore because of the noxious explosive fumes,
except the occasional crazed white-nosed bat that flitters through the steel
bars at the entrance.

Eh. So-so.

Who the hell is Joy-Ann Reid? Never met her, she knows ZERO about me, has NO talent, and truly doesn’t have the “it” factor needed for success in showbiz. Had a bad reputation, and now works for the Comcast/NBC losers making up phony stories about me. Low Ratings. Fake News!

The Taliban has never been hit harder than it is being hit right now. Killing 12 people, including one great American soldier, was not a good idea. There are much better ways to set up a negotiation. The Taliban knows they made a big mistake, and they have no idea how to recover!

Trump is an old, demented man who considers the entire world to be his front lawn.

Nailed.

The important additional fact is that he was given the world to use as his front lawn, and will most likely have it until 2014.

Is Trump perhaps pushing for this Biden candidacy?

I said that months ago - Trump & GOP are desperate for Biden to be the nomination. They must be gutted at the left's attacks on Biden from all angles. Biden is the dream attack guy, which may be why the left media is doing it now.

Trump's only avenue of attack against Liz will be misogynistic, and I suspect his number-crunchers would not fancy that, given his reliance on stupid white women, where someone like Warren should have wide appeal.

I think most women, when Nana and Pops have an argument, are going to empathise with Nana, and it's a huge and important voting block.

How.much will Israel be paying the USA for this?

The questions about Trump and lightbulbs were honestly put. Trump has been raised in a privileged household where it was only the Mexican or black lackeys who did things like buy and change lightbulbs. So chances are he has never handled one in his life. Which is why I asked if he had ever bought or replaced one. Because obviously he hasn't ever.

Then he blithered on about LED type bulbs making him look orange. That would be incandescent bulbs he is thinking of. All pro photographers and lighting specialists and most other educated grown-ups know this. Then he went on some disconnected riff about bulbs having "gases" and having to be wrapped for safety... Wha..??! LED lights have no gases. They are cheap and do not break. Was Trump thinking of neon tubes and when they break? The type of lights that have been around for 100 years now? Or incandescent bulbs which are even older? Or was he giving the world a short trip through his thought process, such as it was?

So it is no conspiracy theory at all. It's all there on display to everyone around the world. It was painfully clear, even for this single basic subject, Trump had no single solitary clue what he was rambling on nonsensically about. It was like he had never seen a lightbulb ever in his life, which is most likely the case. He was lost in the scrambled recesses of an increasingly degenerating and crumbling mind, making **** up.

And if that was just the tiny little subject of lightbulbs, imagine what Trump's brain scrambler is doing about your highly complex & important national policies and global politics, two more subjects on which Trump is even more profoundly ignorant than he is on lightbulbs.

It's all about TV ratings, baby! Making up phony stories is their job! So are you going to complain about that now?

The truth is very likely the opposite of this.

And so it is...

That is, frankly, terrifying for the future of American democracy.

It's an effect of one of the main reasons why we rather need to move closer to democratic capitalism quickly, I think.

I said that months ago - Trump & GOP are desperate for Biden to be the nomination. They must be gutted at the left's attacks on Biden from all angles. Biden is the dream attack guy, which may be why the left media is doing it now.

Gutted? They're attacking him pretty hard, before getting to the outright blackmail that Trump and Giuliani were using on Ukraine to attempt to reverse black and white.

In other notable news for the moment...

Schiff accuses top intel official of illegally withholding 'urgent' whistleblower complaint

The nation's top intelligence official is illegally withholding a whistleblower complaint, possibly to protect President Donald Trump or senior White House officials, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff alleged Friday.

Schiff issued a subpoena for the complaint, accusing acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire of taking extraordinary steps to withhold the complaint from Congress, even after the intel community's inspector general characterized the complaint as credible and of "urgent concern."

“A Director of National Intelligence has never prevented a properly submitted whistleblower complaint that the [inspector general] determined to be credible and urgent from being provided to the congressional intelligence committees. Never," Schiff said in a statement. "This raises serious concerns about whether White House, Department of Justice or other executive branch officials are trying to prevent a legitimate whistleblower complaint from reaching its intended recipient, the Congress, in order to cover up serious misconduct."

****. The Trump Administration really needs to be kicked out and every one of them immediately and seriously investigated for illegal behavior. Not for partisan reasons, of course, but because of the stunning disregard for law and order that has been shown.

Not that that'll necessarily be especially easily after things like -

1,688 polling places shuttered since Supreme Court green-lit new state disenfranchisement schemes

Texas is the biggest state culprit in closing down polling locations. They've eliminated 750 since Shelby, part of a state Republican effort to "centralize" voting. The premise is to allow voters to vote at any open polling place ... while closing them in large numbers. It may indeed be more convenient for voters to be able to choose which polling place to cast their ballots at, but for voters who lack transportation options—poor voters, rural voters, and residents of areas underserved by public transit—getting to any of them may be dramatically more difficult than it was six years ago. Whether that difficulty is an intentional effect of the closures or merely statewide Republican Party incompetence that absolutely none of them are eager to correct is, supposedly, debatable.

But it's Georgia that has perhaps been the most shameless. "Georgia stands out because its counties have closed higher percentages of voting locations than any other state in our study," say the authors.

The top five closers of polling places by percentage were Georgia counties: The top three counties in the state were Lumpkin (89 percent closed); Stephens (88 percent closed); and Warren, which is 61 percent African American (83 percent closed). Bacon County, which is 15 percent African American, and Butts County, which is 28 percent African American, tied with 80 percent closed. Seven counties with major polling place reductions now have only one polling site to serve hundreds of square miles.

It's difficult to imagine a more overt effort to block voters from getting to the polls than closing down nine out of ten polling locations and telling county voters to pound sand if they don't like it. Georgia Republicans appear to have reacted to the Shelby decision by rushing to pick up where the old Jim Crow laws left off, and in public statements have barely bothered to muster excuses for doing so.

Incidentally, if one happens to want a few facts to use as a counterpoint for that absurd attempt by the GOP to link the Democrats with Pol Pot... Here's a link. To sum up a few points from it...

1. Republicans caused Pol Pot to gain power and quite supported him, regardless of the genocide.

Khmer Rouge came to power in Cambodia largely as a result of Nixon’s illegal and secret extension of the Vietnam War into that country. In addition, long after the genocide was common knowledge, the US supported the Khmer in the war against the Vietnamese which eventually resulted in the removal of the Khmer from power and into exile into Thailand in the late 1970s. The Reagan administration continued to recognize the Khmer as part of the Cambodian government in exile and provide it with food and military support.

2. The Republican Party is very quickly turning into something of a mirror of the Khmer Rouge and has taken numerous concrete steps in that direction.

the Khmer Rouge was an autocratic, nationalistic, xenophobic regime that was concerned with racial purity

3. The Trump Administration is exercising distinct cruelty towards survivors of the Cambodian genocide.

the Trump administration that is now deporting children who fled the Khmer genocide in the 1970s back to Cambodia, some who had fled the country with their families when they were just months old.

4. When it comes to harm being done to democracy, the Republican Party has been actively warring against our democracy, their actions in North Carolina being a prime example.

No, it'll be misogynistic and racist. Pocahontas!

Probably about the minimal amounts of mercury in CFL's, which are rapidly being replaced by LED's anyhow.

No, it'll be misogynistic and racist. Pocahontas!

And if that weren’t nauseating enough, when they’re called out on it, they’ll act surprised and say they weren’t trying to misogynistic and racist. And that’ll be followed by, “you know, maybe the reason you think it is misogynistic and racist is that you see misogyny and racism everywhere you look. Maybe..[wait for it]...maybe you’re the real racist here.”

I suspect that he has heard of the risk of mercury from CFL bulbs and believes that also applies to all of the newer energy efficient LED bulbs.

All based on NOTHING! The Dems can’t get anything positive done, and probably don’t want to.

@SteveScalise
The committee with jurisdiction over the border crisis is obsessed with endless witch hunts & trying to impeach @realDonaldTrump instead of solving that real crisis.
Pelosi clearly condones these radical reckless schemes because she won’t shut the door on them.
Time to move on!
