The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

Morally, logically, political, and socially you are correct.

Personally I live in a Florida county which is 40% registered Democrat and 36% registered Republican, and went for Trump by a margin of something like less than 2% last time and there's not enough liquor distilled on this continent to make me look forward to being voter in a swing metro area in a swing county of a swing state that during one of the most heated political elections in my lifetime.

It seems like we're saying that about every election. I agree with what you're saying though.

In NoDak we don't even get political commercials much. Some for the senate but overall there's no doubt about who NoDak is voting for so they don't even waste money here.

Though at some point it could become like Minnesota where Minneapolis has such of an impact on voting it can sometimes be enough to carry the state. If Fargo, Grand Forks and Bismarck ever become solidly Dem it could cause problems for the GOP.

Now, NOW it's getting serious. We've got a double dog dare:

A House Republican issued a "double dog dare" to Democrats on the Judiciary Committee Thursday, challenging them to call a vote on the impeachment of President Trump.

Rep. Tom McClintock, of California, took issue with House Democrats, who took a big step in their impeachment push as they set the ground rules for a formal committee inquiry.

Because that's what grown ups do...

So if I understand the rules of legislature for a 1st world superpower the Dems now have to either answer the question or complete the physical challenge.

No, no those are the rules to classic Nickelodeon game show Double Dare. I always get those mixed up.

You have more faith in the ability of the Dems to walk and chew gum at the same time then me and Belz.

But regardless this isn't about going at Trump from different angles, it's about selling opposite message to your hardcore and mainstream supporters.

The Dems are splitting their base with infighting while the Republicans have gotten evangelical to get 100% behind a man who couldn't walk past a church without bursting into flames.

What opposite message?

You might be imagining the supposed infighting to be something it is not. Has Pelosi tried to shut Nadler down? She can you know.

I do believe they are wise to have a cautious side and an aggressive side.

Belz... and I* What, do you feel, is the Dems biggest blunder to this point that has you classifying them this way?

I don't understand what this means. There is a metric **** ton of infighting in the GOP. Hell, people are retiring left and right, you've got members leaving and running as independents, you've got members calling out other members for actions on gun control, etc. I know it's basically a whataboutism, but it's strange to me to act like that Dems are scattered to the winds, yet not mentioning the fact that the GOP is severely broken. They might have evangelical support, but that's getting pretty close to the only support they have 100% of.

And Pelosi has recently said publicly that she supports Nadler.

You know what... it's not worth it. I have a whole thing typed out and just... I don't care. I just don't care. It's not like it makes a difference.

The Dems are perfect, are doing everything right, and must absolutely not do anything differently from what they did in 2016 or learn from it in anyway or adjust anything about themselves in response to it. Let's run with that and see how it works.

Your reply to me asking a perfectly legitimate question is to go off half-cocked on how I'm implying the Dems are perfect? That's a ******* random ass way to handle it, but it's your world.

I asked what you would change in their actions. **** man, have a Coke and a smile.

It wasn't directed at you. It's a discussion I've had a hundred times and I don't have it in me right now to have it again.

Trump is violating the Emoluments clauses of the COTUS, and Congress is the appropriate body to address it. It's a slam dunk.

So are various campaign finance and obstruction of justice felonies, but those are also irrelevant. It isn't like corruption and illegal activity matter to republicans that is what they want in a leader.

"Look at my African-American over there!"

Wait, where did he go?

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news...-cheadle-republican-white-superiority-complex
Gregory Cheadle – a black man who Donald Trump referred to as “my African American” during a rally – has announced he is leaving the Republican party, citing the president’s “white superiority complex”.
...
...the tipping point came when Republicans came to Trump’s defence after he tweeted that four Democratic congresswoman of colour should leave the US and when he attacked Elijah Cummings’ home town of Baltimore....He accused the Republican party of following a “pro-white” agenda and using black people as “political pawns”.

Wow, he must have been really surprised. Its not like Trump showed any sign of being racist before... Well, except for when he labeled Mexicans as 'Rapists', or called neo-Nazis "fine people", or got fined for not renting apartments to minorities. But apart from that, how could he have known that Trump was a racist?

ETA: I hear he's decided to switch his vote to the Leopards Eating People's Party.

I think it's more some Dems have bought into the "Lost Tribe" theory of politics and are convinced there is a vast pool of hard left voters who are just waiting for the right candidate to come along...…

Ideologues love that theory because it means they do not have to sully their ideological purity by appealing to moderates or centralists.

Nice Trillion dollar deficit you have over there. And that's for the first 11 months of the fiscal year. Boy those conservatives sure are sticking to their values.

Obama knocked the 1.4 Trillion deficit he was handed down to a quarter of that amount and the party of fiscal responsibility blew it up, again.

Warren appeals to a lot of moderates. She's the "I'm a capitalist to my bones" candidate. :)

She + Sanders have a lot larger share of the vote than Biden, and if Sanders withdraws at convention (since Biden's not even close to getting over 50% of the vote, it's almost definitely going to be a contested convention) a lot (most? almost all?) of his delegates could go to her.

She beats Trump 51% to his 44% according to the most recent hypothetical matchup polls on 538.
