The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

Bear in mind that this isn't the first time Trump has floated the idea of sitting for a third term.

If people keep cheering it at rallies then he'll keep saying it.

If "My cat's breath smells of cat food" got a strong reaction at rallies, he'd add it to his repertoire of catch phrases to be dredged up at every possibility.

I can't decide which is more disturbing, that he means it, or it's just a popular enough idea that he floats it for easy applause.

I assume that for people who attend his rallies, anything that comes out of Trump's orifices is popular enough for easy applause.

Easy applause? That one lady after that remark looked like someone struck by the power of Jehzus on a televangelist show.

So what ?

In a sane and rational world then this whole hurricane kerfuffle would have damaged President Trump's credibility and standing within the country slightly and caused those close to him to try to get him to modify his behaviour.

Instead not only do the GOP and his administration not seem to mind, but because his approval rating within the party is so high, this enhances his position. He's taking on the Poindexters in the NOAA and standing up for the great state of Alabama - MAGA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In a sane and rational world, Trump wouldn't have been elected in the first place. Or if he himself was sane and rational, he'd have just said "Oops, I made a mistake. I meant the Carolinas" and it would all have been over with.

Trump. Minutes ago in North Carolina.

"Under the normal rules, I'll be out by 2024, so we may have to go for an extra term."

This man is not your typical U.S. politician. He is a fascist. He must be removed from office now.
Video embedded in tweet.

If Trump gets reelected and the R's get solid majorities in both houses of Congress I fully expect the 25th amendment, or at least the term limits portion of it, to be repealed. They already control most state legislatures who would ratify it in a heartbeat.

I especially liked calling the Constitution "normal rules" (stressing "normal") before suggesting he'll break them, too. And the crowd goes wild.

We are to the point where the administration is threatening to fire people for saying the sky is blue.

And Trump GOP are happy to accept it.

We are to the point where the administration is threatening to fire people for saying the sky is blue cloudy, with a chance of hurricane.

22nd, and surely you jest if you say the GOP could win two-thirds majorities in both houses of Congress and could win three quarters of legislatures.

We're missing the big picture here people. There's a much more important and pressing question.

Who the hell used the tired, worn out "-gate" prefix to name it Sharpiegate when not only is "Pengahzi" a better name, it's an amazing name!

Because the suffix of 'ghazi' has come to imply that there was no actual scandal but rather just partisans trying to force one into being.

I don't think it will happen, but if this turns out to be straw that breaks the camel's back and starts the ball rolling on removing this senile maniac for office I deeply hope it is known in the future as the Inkpeachment.

Given how much they've rigged the system and the fact that they have almost two years to rig it even more with no real check on their power?

It barely drops to the level of "slightly unlikely."

So, a little good news for Trump's opponents:

From: https://theweek.com/speedreads/8638...ints-majority-says-recession-likely-next-year
Trump in recent weeks has blamed the media for reporting on fears of a potential looming recession.... But in this poll, not only are most Americans seemingly not buying into that messaging campaign, but 43 percent said Trump has increased the chance of a recession in the next year with his economic and trade policies. For comparison, 34 percent said he hasn't made a difference...Fifty-six percent also disapproved of Trump's handling of trade negotiations with China
...
Trump's overall approval rating declined six points from 44 percent in June to 38 percent now, with 47 percent disapproving of his handling of the economy and 56 percent disapproving of his overall job performance.

Usually opinion polls show the majority of people disapprove of Trump's handling of most issues, but still give him high marks for his handling of the economy. The fact that people are changing their mind on that (combined with the drop in his overall approval rating) is a good sign.

(With the Caveat that the election is still a long long way off, and the Democrats haven't even picked a candidate yet.)

You can’t be serious.

I'm being perfectly serious. We've got almost two years of more gerrymandering, more voter suppression plans being put in place, maybe another SCOTUS judge or two.

Again I'm not getting what magical factor people think is going to make 2020 a harder battle for the GOP then 2016.
