The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

This.

For the tenth time, the "establishment" faction of the Democratic Party, if you like, have been functionally centrist for a good two decades, perhaps longer. Their rule has been compromise first, fight second, no matter how obstructive the GOP is. They've perpetually had one foot out the door.

Progressive social views have been adopted by many top Democrats, but fiscally they are just a peg left of the Republicans. Actual progressives on both counts have only recently emerged in the mainstream.

As for law abiding, would that being when ordering torture or selling weapons to Iran to fund the contra's against the laws passed by congress? Or are we looking at Nixon as the law abiding republican president?

You have to go to Ike to find a law abiding republican president.

Is that how Ben Garrison sees Trump?

And for the millionth time this only matters if we think there's some predefined "chart" and where everyone falls on it proves something.

That's also why I'm done with some European running into every other American political discussing to remind us that "iN My COunTRY UR leFT woULD be OUr RIGhT!" as if that matters or means anything.

We should accept nothing less then our elected officials at least putting some honest effort into doing the right thing. Not the left thing, not the right thing (no pun intended on that one), not the thing that goes here here or here on the grand left to right chart, not the progressive thing, not the conservative thing, not the Democratic thing, not the Republican thing. The right thing.

Hang on a sec...

Didn't Trump just announce the startup of Space Force!!!1!!? But he is stealing money from it right out of the blocks. So what is next? No more sticks for the bottle-rockets?
Maintenance facilities for naval ships. That's right. He ordered the Navy to not mothball an aircraft carrier and gave himself a pat on the back for doing so. Where did he get this magic money tree from?

China.

The US is making billions of dollars a day through tariffs.

USA FTW!

That world does sound nice. Unfortunately, it exists absolutely no where on this planet.

At least that explains the nonsense.

Remember when Reagan had the solar panels removed from the White House?
A Brief History of White House Solar Panels

These idiots have something against change.

And speaking of vendetta ignorance, W dropped the ball trying to get Osama because they were all convinced Clinton wasn't doing terrorism abatement right. That resulted in the 911 disaster. (See Against All Enemies by Richard Clarke who saw it happen first hand.)

The dumbest part of the light bulb change is that the regulations have led to way better LED light bulbs. Brighter than incandescent bulbs for much less power. I love the efficiency bulbs. It is especially helpful now that I am older and need more light. I can replace 750 lumens 40 w bulbs in lamps with 1000 lumens 15 W bulbs

If some of these "progressive conservatives" had their way, even lightbulbs and electricity would be too modern. We should really have stuck to burning enormous piles of "clean coal" for light and heat.

I have been waiting for a call to restart the whaling industry.

A fair sounding sentiment that I am sure gets immediate approval from almost everyone on a cursory listening.

I think that it gets a bit trickier when one acknowledges the myriad different interests represented by the nation, and the often adversarial methods built into the functioning of the "system". When those elements are considered, the question "right for who?" Must be examined- and justified.

I the idea of right we are aiming for is the moral/ethical and not the correct. The right thing as told in various America myths in foundation stories and popular culture has truth, justice/fairness and individual liberty at its heart. Need to get back to at least paying lip service to those values.

There's a built in problem from jump. How often does "fairness" crash right into "individual liberty"?

Trump Tweets

I was with you all the way Alabama. The Fake News Media was not!

Just as I said, Alabama was originally projected to be hit. The Fake News denies it!

Man's got balls. Media says that the hurricane is not forecast to hit Alabama when it's not forecast to hit Alabama. Hence, they don't give a crap about Alabama. Trump warns Alabama of a non-existent threat because he cares so darned much.

A columnist for the WAPO calls Trump's obsession with the weather map story positively Orwellian, and he is right.
In Trumpland 2 and 2 equals 5 if Dear Leader says so, and anybody doubting him is a doubleplusungood crime thinker.

Now it's being reported that Trump himself ordered Rear Adm. Peter Brown to back up his claim about being right about Alabama.

"While speaking to the press on Sunday, Sept. 1, the President addressed Hurricane Dorian and its potential impact on multiple states, including Alabama," he continued. "The president’s comments were based on that morning’s Hurricane Dorian briefing, which included the possibility of tropical storm force winds in southeastern Alabama."

The trouble with that is there had already been several updates by Sunday morning clearly showing Alabama was completely out of Dorian's path. Maybe if Trump spent less time golfing....
