The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

CNN fact checking found Trump lied an average of almost 8 times per day for a period of 6 weeks (July 8 - August 18). That's 328 lies in 6 weeks. Do his supporters care? Nah. After all, every politician lies.

How very dare you:

"He doesn't lie. He doesn't lie," McEnany retorted. "The press lies."

She repeated that Trump "doesn't lie" before stating, "Guess who lies? The press lies."

"You don't think this president has ever lied?" Cuomo quickly shot back, before speaking over McEnany and asking, "You don’t think the president has lied to the American people? You have to answer that question first. He has never lied to the American people?"

"I don't think the president has lied. No, I don't think the president has lied," she responded.

There's gaslighting and then there's that. ^^

And this: Fox Business Host Stuart Varney Tells Joe Walsh: Trump Has Never Lied
.....Walsh, meanwhile, pointed to recent reports that White House aides have admitted that the president recently faked high-level phone calls with China regarding trade in an effort to boost markets, something Varney claimed doesn’t count as a lie.

“That’s not a lie,” Varney exclaimed. “If the man said and he did that high-level talks had been held with China, that is not a lie. They were held with China.”

“Stuart, he said there were high-level phone calls with Chinese officials, his staff admitted that was not true, that he lied in order to manipulate the market,” Walsh retorted, prompting Varney to wave him off.

“Give me another one,” the pro-Trump anchor huffed.....

Varney’s delusional declaration that the president—who has told at least 12,000 lies and false statement since entering the White House—has never lied comes on the heels of Trump 2020 campaign spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany saying the same thing on CNN earlier this week, flooring CNN anchor Chris Cuomo.

Talk about confirmation bias, it's unbelievable.

Trump Tweets

Just watched Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, and many other Democrats, wanting to give up on our very successful Trade battle with China, which has had its worst Economic year in memory (and getting worse). We are taking in $Billions. Will be big for Farmers and ALL!

Trump Tweets

Being scolded by failed former “Intelligence” officials, like James Clapper, on my condolences to Iran on their failed Rocket launch. Sadly for the United States, guys like him, Comey, and the even dumber John Brennan, don’t have a clue. They really set our Country back,....

....but now we are moving forward like never before. We are winning again, and we are respected again!

Trump Tweets

Enjoy the low gas prices over the Labor Day weekend! My energy policies have made America energy independent while keeping prices low, just like a Tax Cut. The Democrats “green” policies will raise your price of gas!

“The vindication belongs to the President for firing James Comey. It was clearly the right thing to do. You don’t want an FBI Director with Jim Comey’s ethics.” Jason Riley, Wall Street Journal

I'm trying to decide if Trump spends more time lying or tweeting trying to convince everyone (and himself) how great he is. Truly great people don't need convince anyone of their greatness; it's obvious.

Hmmm....I'm leaning to tweeting. It takes more time to tweet with his little hands.

Talk about confirmation bias, it's unbelievable.

It's more than 'confirmation bias', it's willful blindness and being in denial.

“If the man said and he did that high-level talks had been held with China, that is not a lie. They were held with China.”

That's not "confirmation bias" or "being in denial", it's just straight-up lying. None of these guys believe what they're saying, they know that they're lying. Alas, they also know that their voter base won't believe that they are lying, so they just don't care.

Trump gave money to Democrats because he's a business man. A very smart one. Not paying taxes is smart. His licensed ties were manufactured in China because it's more profitable (fantastic ties, by the way). Trump's just honest. No, authentic. Lowest Black unemployment ever. One of the all-time great memories. Not a puppet. You're a puppet. Keep America Great.

Thanks for opening my eyes, Cain! :D

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the DEM lies that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright, bright
Donald Trump day.

I wanted to say insane but that's such a general term.

Read the interview in my link. First he rationalizes Trump is just exaggerating and spinning. Faked phone calls don't count because... reasons.
“Stuart, do you believe this president lies?” Walsh asked.

“No,” Varney replied.

“You don’t believe he’s ever lied?” Walsh shot back in disbelief.

“He exaggerates and spins,” the Fox host retorted.

“Okay. Do you believe he’s ever told the American people a lie?” Walsh pressed again.

“No,” Varney stated.

This one is especially ironic:
From there, Varney tried to flip it back around on Walsh, asking him if he lied when he said President Barack Obama was a Muslim, causing Walsh to admit it was a lie and that he’s apologized for that.
Walsh, a Republican, admits lying about Obama being a Muslim born in Kenya. That's a lie Trump has told again and again and then Trump lied that he somehow got Obama to cough up his long form birth certificate.

I wonder if anyone counted the number of times Trump has mentioned Comey in a Tweet.

That certainly is a distinct possibility.

I agree some are just lying. But others are definitely suffering from willful blindness and denial. Several Trump supporters I've seen on TV really think it's the press that lies about Trump and not Trump lying. It's how they deal with their cognitive dissonance.

I think these kind of people know very well that he's a lying piece of ****. Baghdad Bob wasn't delusional about how Iraq was triumphantly winning battle after battle over the Americans, he was just doing his job which was acting as a propaganda outlet. Quite a few people at Fox News seem to act as veritable mouthpieces of the Trump Administration, so them having to go to the same level of surrealism as Baghdad Bob isn't surprising.

The problem, as always, is that they and Trump are getting away with this. He might even be reelected. Normally a lying, dishonest politician would be punished by their supporters... but in this case it's not as if they feel exploited by him. They knew from the start that this is what they were going to get, because he acted the same during the election.

If anything, because his constant lying infuriates his critics, many Trump voters seem to relish it.

A great deal of them KNOW he's a liar and just don't care...but not all of them. These people NEED and WANT to believe him, so they go into denial and accept his claims that it's the media that's after him and they lie about him. They also find excuses to rationalize their support. One of my favorite excuses was an evangelical Trump supporter who said "Who am I to judge?" when asked if Trump's lying didn't bother him.
