The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

The G7 in France was so successful, and yet when I came back and read the Corrupt and Fake News, and watched numerous networks, it was not even recognizable from what actually took place at the Great G7 event!

It is amazing that I can be at 51% with Zogby when the Fake & Corrupt News is almost 100% against me. Great job Mr. President!

A bit about Zogby:
Zogby, however, is not a reliable pollster. That’s because the firm, which skews to the right and which FiveThirtyEight’s Nate Silver once described as the “worst pollster in the world,” isn’t transparent about its methodology.

This problem is apparent in the polling Trump has repeatedly touted this week. The “Zogby Analytics Poll Methodology” page merely notes that Zogby “conducted an online survey of 897 likely voters in the US,” but doesn’t detail how the sample was chosen. And given how out of step its findings about Trump’s approval rating are with other polls, it appears Zogby’s sample contains more Trump supporters than a firm would find in one that’s truly representative of the electorate.

“Zogby Analytics has a track record of remarkably inaccurate preelection polls,” Stanford University professor Jon Krosnick told the Atlantic when Trump was touting Zogby polls in October 2015, noting that the shabby performance was a result of nonrandom sampling.
Zogby’s poll in an extreme outlier. A CNN survey released on Wednesday pegged Trump’s approval rating at 40 percent, with 54 percent disapproving. FiveThirtyEight’s poll aggregator pegs it at 42 percent, with 54 percent disapproving. RealClearPolitics’ poll average has it at 43 percent, with 54 percent disapproving. Zogby, by contrast, pegs Trump’s disapproval rating at just 47 percent.

They do stories so big on Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren’s crowd sizes, adding many more people than are actually there, and yet my crowds, which are far bigger, get no coverage at all. Fake News!
But he's not bitter because people call him names...

Axios (whatever that is) sat back and said GEEEEE, let’s see, what can we make up today to embarrass the President? Then they said, “why don’t we say he wants to bomb a hurricane, that should do it!” The media in our Country is totally out of control!
UNPROVEN: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump-nuke-hurricanes/

So why respond so nastily, Donny? Unless there's a grain of truth to it?

From before the Inauguration, this administration has tried to stop leaks and failed spectacularly. Of course Trump is pissed that he can never control the narrative

Thanks to President Stubby McBonespurs and Moscow Mitch, the U.S. no longer has the proper enforcement with regard to election laws...

The Federal Election Commission’s announced Monday in a press release that its vice chairman, Matthew Petersen, "will be leaving the Commission at the end of this month." The resignation will render the commission unable to undertake many of its more high-profile functions like voting on enforcement actions, beginning rulemakings and initiating audits...
...
Commissioners are appointed by the White House, and President Donald Trump nominated one new commissioner in 2017 whose confirmation has still not been voted on by the Senate.

Anyone else thing this is suspicious?

...Yes. With that said, more context likely should be added to that. This is coming not too long after the news that those Republicans killed any investigation at all into likely campaign finance violations of the NRA, even after Maria Butina's confession, (and, let me add, that this is far from the first investigation that the Republicans killed - to the point where it's likely far too accurate to say that they were opposed to the overall mission of the FEC) so it would be no surprise if the guy was facing social pressure in response to that. That the FEC's in that state to begin with, of course, is nigh entirely due to McConnell and the Republicans. Of particular note there, incidentally, is that Moscow Mitch lost a court case about campaign finance to the FEC in 2003. He hasn't exactly been friendly with them since (or before, of course, but after matters more, given that he's been sabotaging them since he gained the power to do so).

Emotionally? Yes.

Wasn't he bragging about how he's the same as when he was 9 a couple years ago?

It was supposed to be a factory visit, something all other presidents have done at times. Trump turned it into a quasi-political rally, just as he did with the Boy Scouts and other groups he has spoken too.

<snip>

It's not apologia, it's basic facts. And consider this., If it had been President Obama visiting, the same rules would have applied, would you be as upset about those that refused to go and see him losing their overtime?

For a bit of reference here, Trump visited another facility of the company where I work on his 100th day in office in something that included a factory visit. That was cool, regardless of, well, him. As far as I've heard, though, Ames handled it very differently than Shell did and I'm placing wrong here firmly on Shell's side of things. Seriously, 8 hours of "training" that just happened to have Trump as the trainer? That's total and transparent BS.

Anyways... random news time!

A source close to Deutsche Bank says Trump’s tax returns show he pays very little income tax and, more importantly, that his loans have Russian co-signers.

If true, that explains every kind word Trump has ever said about Russia and Putin.

@TheLastWord 10pm

Trump's longstanding association with Russian criminals isn't even remotely new news, either way. This would just be an entirely expectable result from that... and thus hardly the overarching explanation for the "kind words."

MaddowBlog tweeted a quote from a WaPo article about land seizures for the vanity wall.

Um...
"He also has told worried subordinates that he will pardon them of any potential wrongdoing should they have to break laws to get the barriers built quickly, those officials said."

Dangling pardons to try to entice people to disregard the law. That should be impeachment worthy all by itself, before getting to the fact that he's done it repeatedly, and before adding it to the rest of the madness.

"I can't go back. They Will Kill Me." He Died Today. ICE wanted his US citizen children to die with him.

Fairly straightforward and utterly reprehensible.

Pelosi Statement on Trump Administration Stealing Money from Disaster Relief to Fund Cruel Family Incarceration Policy

San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the Trump Administration’s attempt to divert money from FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund to fund its family incarceration policy:

“The President’s brazen assault on the Congress’s most fundamental Constitutional power, the power of the purse, is cruel, deeply dangerous and made in bad faith.

“Stealing from appropriated funds is always unacceptable, but to pick the pockets of disaster relief funding in order to fund an appalling, inhumane family incarceration plan is staggering – and to do so on the eve of hurricane season is stunningly reckless.

“I urge the Administration to swiftly reconsider this deeply irresponsible action, and to begin to work in good faith with Congress so that we can deliver progress For The People.”

She said it well, I think, much as her urgings fall upon intentionally deaf ears.

Economists Find 65% Increase in Racial Bias in Federal Sentencing is Attributable to GOP Judges

Unfortunately. Again, there's no equivalence to be found here. Nor does the evidence even remotely show that we live in a post-racial country.

You know that "I'm going to prove I'm the dominant one by the way I shake your hand" thing Trump does? Then you'll enjoy this:

I'll be honest, every time Macron does this to trump, I really have a giggle.

It's been reported that trump's aides on the G7 trip were mad about the French president apparently arranging things in such a way as to embarrass trump, particularly with the whole focus of the Biarritz G7 on the environment, and I think they're right. I certainly get the impression that Macron delights in his poking of the big ugly bear.

And to imagine the original bedbug tweet had 9 (nine) likes when Bretbug Stephens asked to speak to The Manager about it.

Streisand Effect writ large.

“The infestation of bedbugs at The New York Times office” @OANN was perhaps brought in by lightweight journalist Bret Stephens, a Conservative who does anything that his bosses at the paper tell him to do! He is now quitting Twitter after being called a “bedbug.” Tough guy!

So interesting to read and see all of the free and interesting advice I am getting on China, from people who have tried to handle it before and failed miserably - In fact, they got taken to the cleaners. We are doing very well with China. This has never happened to them before!

We are tracking closely tropical storm Dorian as it heads, as usual, to Puerto Rico. FEMA and all others are ready, and will do a great job. When they do, let them know it, and give them a big Thank You - Not like last time. That includes from the incompetent Mayor of San Juan!

As an amusing aside, last night's episode of the science fiction series "Pandora" had a flashback to an earlier time period, when Earth was facing an environmental disaster. The two proposals were:
1. Fleets of ark ships that would evacuate the population to other planets, letting the Earth recover without us.
2. Massive carbon dioxide scrubbers.

The person proposing the scrubbers was a businessman turned politician whose slogan was "Make Earth Green Again". At one point, one of his speeches was running on a TV in the background. "I'm one of the great scientists. Most people don't know that. I'm one of the great scientists."
It turned out that the scrubbers were a scam. He actually planned to pocket the money, evacuate the planet himself, and leave everyone to die.

Does that sound to anyone else like he's blaming PR for getting hit by hurricanes? Like they've gone out of their way to sit in the path of the storm?

"Goddamn it, Puerto Rico! I told you to move right! Right!"

"I'd have told everyone, you know, Puerto Rico is a nice place, lotsa people, palm trees by the hundred, and people are saying Trump should've gotten there, everyone is saying that, and I should have gone there and told everyone to go to the beaches with paddles and oars and rowed the island out of the path of the hurricane, and I said, the preident of Puerto Rico, he needs only get on the phone with me and I will help them, I will send paddles, because no one gives a paddling better than me, and..."
