The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

Well there seems to be disagrement over the specifics of the situation, then. If Trump had not come, and they had been working as they had planned to, what would the pay be? I guess the issue is: were they promised extra money for attending?

Even if Trump had not come they might not have been "working as they had planned to". Plants, or parts of them, get shut down from time to time for various reasons. Certainly when things are shut down they try to do those kinds of things (maintenance and such) that can't be done when things are in operation. We had a shutdown here a few years back, fortunately for me it happened during my off days.

Heck, for quite a while here there were so many overlapping premiums people had a hard time figuring out what they were suppose to be making for the times they were planning and scheduled to work. However, even just assuming they would have made whatever they had planned "If Trump had not come" doesn't change "the specifics of the situation" in that they were specifically paid to attend and not to disrupt.

One need not be "promised extra money for attending" to be paid for attending. One simply needs to be promised and receive money for attending. Like here, any 24/7 plant will have workers who are off on any given day of the week. Since some workers would probably have been normally off that Tuesday we don't know if they were offered to attend with pay that day. However, without any claims to that effect we would have to assume not.

For whatever reason you evidently feel there needed to be an offer of extra money for the headline you noted not to have misrepresented, as you said, what you were expecting to read in the article. Great, no need to misrepresent what happened yourself.

While also not mentioning again that only a fraction of that 92 billion has actually been paid.

Even the "Congress approved 92 Billion Dollars for Puerto Rico last year" part isn't true. Congress only actually approved $40.7 billion-

The federal government’s recovery website shows shows $40.7 billion has been allocated (Congress appropriated the spending) through December 2018. Of that, $19.4 billion has been obligated (the government has promised to spend the money) and of that $11.2 billion has been spent. The money comes from various agencies and funds including FEMA, U.S. Housing and Urban Development, the Community Development Fund and the Disaster Relief Fund.

A senior administration official told PolitiFact that Trump arrived at the $91 billion figure by combining the roughly $41 billion already allocated with additional estimated future FEMA costs of $50 billion. (The Washington Post’s Fact Checker wrote that the $50 billion was a high end estimate of what would need to be committed under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act of 1988.)

That means the $50 billion is speculative, said Steve Ellis, vice president of Taxpayers for Common Sense.
"It may be spent, it may not, and some of it will be far into the future," he said.

(That Politifact article was as of April 2019- in June 2019, another $1 billion dollars was approved in a bill which Trump signed)

I don't know if Trump is just too goddamn stupid to know that he's lying, or just doesn't care because he knows his core support group won't (know or care); the one thing that really will never end is the mendacious crap that pours out of this man's mouth every time he opens it.

The policies were company policies, which means they could change or adjust them as needed at their own discretion.

One of the policies was company policy, How the pay system worked.

They could have held their not-a-rally at some time other than regular working hours.

Shell would not have been the ones that determined the timing of the visit, this would have been decided by the White House,

It was supposed to be a factory visit, something all other presidents have done at times. Trump turned it into a quasi-political rally, just as he did with the Boy Scouts and other groups he has spoken too.

They could have gone ahead and paid everyone whether they didn't work and went to the not-a-rally or not.

Scenario... Say we both worked there. I had to take off the day prior to the visit for some reason, and decided that to avoid more time being used up, I'd attend on the day. You decided that you were taking off the day of the visit. We both worked the same number of hours. Under your suggestion, you would be paid more than me despite us working the same number of hours. How is that fair?

They could have done any number of things which would not have had the end result of employees who went to the not-a-rally at the company's behest getting paid more money by the company than the ones who chose not to.

Why should they get paid the same, those that took the day off worked less hours. This isn't rocket surgery.

I'm not buying your apologia.

It's not apologia, it's basic facts. And consider this., If it had been President Obama visiting, the same rules would have applied, would you be as upset about those that refused to go and see him losing their overtime?

The one you should be upset with is douchebag Donald who couldn't be Presidential enough not to make a factory visit all about him and turn what should have been all about the company into a quasi-political rally where his narcissism couldn't let him praise anyone else.

These two options are not mutually exclusive.

True.

Yes. And for the same reasons.

Sure, But there's plenty of disgust to go around. It doesn't need to be limited to only Trump. His conniving sycophants and abettors deserve their share.

The G7 in France was so successful, and yet when I came back and read the Corrupt and Fake News, and watched numerous networks, it was not even recognizable from what actually took place at the Great G7 event!

It is amazing that I can be at 51% with Zogby when the Fake & Corrupt News is almost 100% against me. Great job Mr. President!

They do stories so big on Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren’s crowd sizes, adding many more people than are actually there, and yet my crowds, which are far bigger, get no coverage at all. Fake News!

Axios (whatever that is) sat back and said GEEEEE, let’s see, what can we make up today to embarrass the President? Then they said, “why don’t we say he wants to bomb a hurricane, that should do it!” The media in our Country is totally out of control!

Can you believe it? I’m at 94% approval in the Republican Party, and have Three Stooges running against me. One is “Mr. Appalachian Trail” who was actually in Argentina for bad reasons....

....Another is a one-time BAD Congressman from Illinois who lost in his second term by a landslide, then failed in radio. The third is a man who couldn’t stand up straight while receiving an award. I should be able to take them!
