The Trump Presidency 15

I guess, if you really want to get down to brass tacks, one could argue that since we're in a post-exploration, post colonials timeframe and nobody is interested in space exploration "Hey would you sell me this part of your country?" one of the few legit ways a country could expand these days.

I mean it's actually sort of a legit question, if a country wanted to grow or expand days... what should it do?

Since taking over your neighbors has proven singularly unsuccessful on the long term and Empiricism has long been on the wane, they can either do as the Dutch do and wait 'til nightfall and steal a cm of the North Sea, or they can go the EU route and try to make themselves into a confederation of like-minded states, make their own nationalism subservient to continentalism, and be a part of a greater, expanded state.

Since that ain't working out very well, they need to take a tip from Singapore and Hong Kong.... Go Up, Young Man. Go Up!

Well, then. Random News!

First up is... Wyden blasts FEC Republicans for blocking probe into NRA over possible Russia donations (Maddow interview link of this topic)

...Yeah. Moscow Mitch isn't alone. They're claiming that it's "rank speculation," despite, for example, Maria Butina's confession. And the NRA is claiming that they "scrupulously follow the law."

*flips the bird at the NRA and the FEC Republicans*

They know they're lying.

Speaking of which... Memo reveals a House Republican strategy on shootings: downplay white nationalism, blame left
The GOP memo falsely pinned the El Paso massacre and other notable mass shootings on the left.

It's pretty much exactly what would be expected from a bunch of sociopaths.

And that leads into... 1,802 people have been shot in America these first two weeks of August. 1,270 wounded. 532 dead.

But but but... we shouldn't do anything about that because, wait for it...

NRA lobbyist fears 10-year-old girls will be sad if their Christmas assault rifles are taken away

W.T.F.... oh, right, it's the NRA. *flips the bird at the NRA, again*

For one more notable thing here, though... Activists sue Missouri after GOP undermines voting rights initiatives with deceptive ballot wording

I donate 100% of my President’s salary, $400,000, back to our Country, and feel very good about it!

Just completed a very good meeting on Afghanistan. Many on the opposite side of this 19 year war, and us, are looking to make a deal - if possible!

Great time in New Hampshire last night. Placed was maxed out, totally packed, with thousands coming to the arena floor at start. Thousands more outside that were not allowed in per code. Energy was really great to see. We will win New Hampshire in 2020!

Biggest crowd EVER, according to Arena people. Thousands outside trying to get in. Place was packed! Radical Left Dems & their Partner, LameStream Media, saying Arena empty. Check out pictures. Fake News. The Enemy of the People!

Having dinner tonight with Tim Cook of Apple. They will be spending vast sums of money in the U.S. Great!

I found this insightful:

I never saw that in prior trade deals the US was always the loser - these were carefully crafted deals that sought a balance where both sides stood to gain. Otherwise why would both parties sign on? Clearly, some were better than others, but blowing things up like a bull in a china shop is perhaps not the best path to thriving and mutually beneficial global trade.

Geez, ever since this was posted I tried finding a similar Frum quote. Here it is:

"Regular reminder that Donald Trump’s core competency is not dealmaking with powerful counter-parties. It is duping gullible victims."

Jeebus... he's saving $6,000,000 a year* keeping his 757 hangered, plus all the golf he can cheat at. And with his various properties at high capacity, he's burning up the emoluments clause at record speed... probably hasn't had such good years since 2007.
Cry me a river, you fat ****.

* Complete WAG... I've no idea what his annual jet upkeep runs. It's a $40-60 M bird, should be several mil a year if it gets used much at all.

I'm getting a really good insight into Trump's whole career. He should have been serving time many years ago. White collar criminals get it so easy.

I recently read a blog entry about a Manhattan printer who did business with the Trump organization about thirty-five years ago. A very familiar story.

The printing business was a small one and the owner was very excited when, out of the blue, the Trump group ordered some printing work. Ominously, when the printer sent the invoice, instead of paying, the Trump people asked was he available to do more work. He said yes and this pattern continued, every time he sent an invoice he would get a call asking him if he wanted more work. Finally two things happened. The amount owed grew to about $30,000 and the printing owner was diagnosed with cancer. It was a very aggressive cancer and he passed away in several months.

His estate, his widow, attempted to collect the outstanding debt from the Trumps. They refused to pay it and the widow hired a lawyer. The Trump people told the lawyer if he sued them they'd drag it out and he'd spend more than $30,000 pursuing the case. Eventually the Trumps agreed to settle, for less than $10,000 I think.

And now this man is our president. :(

Gone to high density housing surrounded by greenspace and farms.

Pretty sure my point was that the European Union has changed the nature of national borders. They're no longer the barriers to movement and business that they were. It's the next step and ultranationalism will prevent us and others from taking it.

I had to check twice to be sure this wasn't from The Onion.

By the way, these were the lobbyist's actual words:

How do you tell a 10-year-old little girl who got a Ruger 10/22 with a pink stock for her birthday that her rifle is an assault weapon and she has to turn it over to government or be arrested for felony possession?

I don't know? How do you tell a 10-year-old little girl that one of her parents or siblings got blown away by some scumbag mass shooter armed with a Ruger 10/22?

Er, to be fair, a .22 would be an odd choice for a scumbag mass shooter.
