Inequality has grown to gilded age extents, numerous species are going extinct, America is losing ground compared to the rest of the world, it's infrastructure is crumbling, it is facing a pension time bomb, it is becoming more divided and fractured. So as I said, if diversity is an inherent good, why did the Ussr stagnate and ultimately implode? Why is India lagging behind in development? Why did Syria and Iraq fall apart? Why did Libya not pull together as one? Why is Brazil on the brink of collapse?

Oh it's going to get worse much worse. As America gets more diverse it gets a lot more fractured. Hoping that demographics usher in a multicultural social democracy is naive when India, the Ussr, Brazil and Syria show that diversity and multiculturalism does not necessarily lead to everybody enjoying a variety of dinnerplates. As inequality gets worse and social stagnation continues, coupled with climate change.

Also, calling the Soviet Union "multicultural" is a deliberate torture of the concept. The USSR absorbed several ethnicities, but cultural distinctiveness and its expression were heavily repressed.
