So Trump now has admitted to defrauding banks "for sport".

Too bad that the Statutes of Limitations have most likely run out.

Oh wow will you lookit at that. Trump just admitted to wrong doing. Surely this is the end for him.

Oh wow nothing happened to him, yet again but we super-duper, cross our hearts promise that is totally setting the stage for his downfall that right around the corner and this time we really mean it.

Somebody let me know when the story changes from that.

And yes I will bring this up every time, thanks for asking.

Trump Tweets

<snip>

“Shouldn’t 2015 and 2016 be revealed, how Intelligence Agencies, FBI, tried to sabotage a particular campaign - never been done before?” @SteveForbesCEO @MariaBartiromo

“Everyone wants to know who needs to be accountable, because it took up two years of our lives talking about this Russian involvement. It proved No Collusion, & people want to trace it back to see how this all happened?” @ainsleyearhardt @foxandfriends

<snip>

And if such an investigation were to be undertaken it would be the Republicans who would be fighting tooth and nail to keep the results from being made public, because it would show how much they have been lying.

That's why I doubt it will happen. There's enough of them left in Congress with the brains to realize this, and who also realize they can get more mileage out of their conspiracy claims if they don't back an investigation which disproves them.

I have a sick feeling that "holding people accountable for this" isn't just going to remain rhetoric.

This could be a "Be careful what you wish for." scenario.

I could see the House Dems deciding that it would be a great idea for them to begin such an investigation.

Then we'd get to watch all the Republicans in both chambers of Congress speaking out against the idea.

But this post is completely unwarranted. You're responding to a post commenting on wrongdoing, condemning it (implicitly at least) but making absolutely no suggestion that this will have any practical effect on Trump's presidency. He even mentioned that the statute of limitations has probably run out.

If you're going to be repetitive, at least choose appropriate circumstances. Complaining about bad behavior is not the same as suggesting Trump's about to go down.

Trump is trying to push for impeachment now, so he'll beat it before the primary season starts. Dems need to hold off until they can start impeachment proceedings while Trump is campaigning in the general election. If they don't they risk a Trump victory in the impeachment trial going into the election.

Remember, impeachment is a political decision. It should be used politically, not as some quixotic attack on windmills.

I frankly believe that Trump should be impeached if for no other reason his lack of support for the Constitution that he swore to uphold and protect. These refusals to cooperate with the House subpoenas is in itself obstruction as well as violation of his oath of office.

Trump has caused a Constitutional crisis and that is grounds for impeachment. Trump is endangering our democracy. He's turning the United States into a banana republic and the GOP are allies in this.

Trump should only be impeached if there's a reasonable shot at success. The truth doesn't matter, only Trump's removal from office matters. What good does it do to impeach Trump if he is acquitted in the Senate trial going into the general election? Impeachment should be used to put Trump's transgressions in front of the electorate but timed in such a way as not to have a resolution until after the election.

Don't under estimate chip chip chipping away. Remember they've spent weeks following the Mueller report repeating the false narrative Trump was exonerated.

It takes a while to undue that propaganda message.

NPR today: Senate Intelligence Committee Issues Subpoena For Donald Trump Jr. To Testify Again

It's the Senate so they're probably trying to get a handle on things before things get out of hand. - "Look he testified before the Senate but that House testimony, just dishonest Democrats."

^This.

1) Trump violates oath of office (so often that we barely notice anymore, btw).
2) If House does not impeach then the Representatives have violated their oath of office.
3) Every senator not demanding that the House begin impeachment proceedings has violated their oath of office.

It's really that sample. House Dems need to make the case to the American people that they are duty-bound to impeach both Barr – for lying to Congress and refusing to submit to a subpoena – and Trump for, at the very least, multiple counts of obstruction of justice. They need to make crystal clear that they understand how this could backfire politically but they have no alternative but to take this dramatic action given the implications of the Mueller report.

Most important, they need to make this case on Fox News. Aaaand they need to do this before anyone in the carrier strike group we just sent to the Gulf gets an itchy trigger finger.

I would say rather that House Republicans need to make that case. it's already expected and disregarded that Democratics will.

In principle I agree with you. But it also isn't that simple.

I think the argument that Trump is not making America great again, but that he is destroying what makes America great. This is now about democracy. This is now about checks and balances. If we allow Trump and his administration to flout the law at their whim, America will never be the same.

They cannot afford to let this stand. But Craig's point is also valid, they also cannot afford fir Trump to win in the court of public opinion.
