The Trump Presidency 13: The (James) Baker's Dozen

With casinos, there is nothing stopping someone to walk in with a bag of cash and buy a bunch of chips and not cash them like Trump's father did. Real estate seems good too because you can overpay for an asset and you can buy it through shell companies.

An NFL team just seems too public to me. Still, often the best way to steal or do something illegal is do it in plain sight. But I don't get using an NFL team.

I mean, he was involved in concrete back when the market in NYC was entirely controlled by the Russian mob, so it's not at all like he's ever cared much about subtlety.

Another potential veto in the horizon.

The Senate on Wednesday again rebuked President Trump for his continued defense of Saudi Arabia after the killing of the dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi, voting for a second time to end American military assistance for the kingdom’s war in Yemen and to curtail presidential war powers.

The 54-to-46 vote, condemning a nearly four-year conflict in Yemen that has killed thousands of civilians and inflicted a devastating famine, sets the foundation for what could become Mr. Trump’s first presidential veto, with the House expected to overwhelmingly pass the measure, possibly this month.

MORE ETA
and like me, he would misspell Zeppelin.

And at some point, you just know he'd accidentally say he'd won a "Zip Line" Championship, and then double down on how it was this major event in some jungle adventure place in Colombia.

"Money laundering" covers a lot of stuff, but one way to turn criminally acquired cash into "legal" income is to buy a pile of casino chips, play a few games, and then cash them in. Payouts over $10K get reported to the IRS, but then the crook can claim the "gambling winnings" as ordinary income.

I bet if you handed him a trophy that read 'First Prize: Zeppelin Pilot, Hungarian Games 1994: Donald Trump, Champion' he would remember flying a zeppelin in Hungary, and brag about it to rich people. 'Hey, I won a blimp race. Grand Champion of Europe!'

Oh please, it would be nothing like that.

He would say “World Grand Champion.”

ETA
Then he’d brag about how Zeppelin racing is the hardest sport in the world. And the most dangerous. And that he won it on his first try.

Not to mention confusing zeppelins with blimps.

Ahh. Well, then the question becomes if a reporter asked why he was claiming it took place in Hungary and is now claiming it took place in Colombia, then would he assert that the zip line started in Hungary and ended in Colombia.

Plus it would become extra confusing because he would type Hungry and Columbia.

Not sure that Mueller's remit covers this...I think it's confined to Russian involvement in the 2016 election..but you can bet this sure as hell will be investigated..probably by the SDNY or a House committee....

You can read Mueller's remit here. It includes:
(ii) any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation; and
(iii) any other matters within the scope of 28 C.F.R. § 600.4(a).
That's pretty broad. I'm sure any attempt to thwart his investigation falls under (ii).

There's at least 10 GOP senators who are going to vote it down. Not too many more are needed, I gather.

The Senate doesn't matter. They can't get 2/3 of the house.

ETA: 2/3 of the Senate - yea maybe, but Republicans that vote for the measure may not vote to override.
Point two: 2/3 of the House is also required. That will NOT happen. That's where the Freedom caucus guys are.

Trump Tweets

My Administration looks forward to negotiating a large scale Trade Deal with the United Kingdom. The potential is unlimited!

I just had a vision of a bot that monitors Trump's tweets, then creates real-time ads based on his typos. "And if you're Hungry in Columbia, come see us at the Columbia Flapjack Shack! You know Trump would eat here!"

He'll veto it, then these senators will use that as an excuse to change their votes: "I don't think it's my job to second guess the President!" All the while ignoring the fact that that actually is part of their job.
