China Trade Deal (and more) in advanced stages. Relationship between our two Countries is very strong. I have therefore agreed to delay U.S. tariff hikes. Let’s see what happens?

Heading over to Vietnam for my meeting with Kim Jong Un. Looking forward to a very productive Summit!

I thought the air smelled better.

Any explanation for why Trump just assumed that Lee was referring to HIM as being on the wrong side of history and as the "hate' part of "love vs hate"? Did Lee mention him by name?

No, but Cheeto Benito, but not understanding what racism is would be no shock for a man who can barely remember the name of his own vice president. Again, quite a few white people treat it as a mere insult to toss at people you don't like, when it's really a conclusion based on one's behavior. In Dolt 45's case, the idea may be entirely beyond him.

If Black Panther had won, I doubt he would have reacted as he did. I think that Green Book was too similar in its content to the movie that won the year his best film was snubbed that he felt the sting too acutely.

No, Green Book just was just not a good movie according to many people. As I said in the thread in "Movies, TV, etc" forum.

Trump loves him some unemployment figures. Now.
June 16, 2015 - “Our real unemployment is anywhere from 18 to 20 percent. Don't believe the 5.6. Don't believe it.”
Aug. 11, 2015 - “Then you hear there's a 5.4 percent unemployment. It's really — if you add it up, it's probably 40 percent if you think about it.”
Feb. 9, 2016 - “Don't believe those phony numbers when you hear 4.9 and 5 percent unemployment. As high as 35 — as in fact, I heard recently, 42 percent.”
Dec. 8, 2016 - “The unemployment number, as you know, is totally fiction.” Link

What's the catch phrase that guy on "The Simpsons" has? Worst president ever! ;)

And yet the Academy's preferential ballot showed that the people who voted had a different opinion. I haven't seen it. But opinions are like noses, everyone has one. Part of maturity is understanding that others may and often do have a different opinion. This was Spike's mistake.

My point is that Green Book stuck in Spike's craw because of its resemblance to Driving Miss Daisy.

Have you seen Spike Lee's post Oscar press conference? I don't fault him for his words. He certainly thinks highly of his own work. But he never said anything I heard that was actually racist. In the moment after his loss, he wasn't gracious. Which is too bad. If Black Panther had won, I doubt he would have reacted as he did. I think that Green Book was too similar in its content to the movie that won the year his best film was snubbed that he felt the sting too acutely.

This year was way too wide open.

Here is his press conference.

The issues with Green Book had to do with racism in how they changed the real story, I believe.

Because both movies showed a white person in the forefront with the black person who should have been wasn't.

But maybe I didn't understand what I read about the issues.

Sorry, not sure how much of this belongs in the other thread.

If a deal is made with China, our great American Farmers will be treated better than they have ever been treated before!

The exclusion of the Shirley family from input didn't help as well.

“He told me if you’re going to tell the story, tell it from your father, me, don’t speak to anyone else, that’s how you have to make it,” added Vallelonga.

“I kept my word to that man, I wish I could reach out to Don Shirley’s family, I really didn’t know they existed until we finished the film,” added the screenwriter.

The PDJT's Twitter feed is filled with replies that say "Best President Ever!" almost daily. Considering the tone of most of the rest of them, I'd say a very large percentage of them are being sarcastic.

Hey, Donnie, ya finally coming to understand how in this big ol' interconnected world of ours ya can't go it alone? Maybe it ain't wise after all to flip the rest of the planet the bird, retreat behind your borders, lash out and yell, "America first!" Hmmm?

If it wasn't that Trump called Spike Lee's comments "racist" they wouldn't belong here at all.

Former Trump campaign staffer sues, alleging that Trump kissed her without consent

https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/25/politics/alva-johnson-donald-trump-lawsuit/index.html

"A former Trump campaign staffer is suing President Donald Trump and his campaign, alleging that the then-Republican presidential candidate kissed her without her consent during the 2016 race. She's also suing over equal pay -- claiming that she was paid less for her work based on race and gender."

Well I'm sure this will be the smoking gun that finally takes Trump down.

Like the, what, 22 other allegations that continue to do little more than show how partisan the current Republicans are?

Anyways... time for another selection of things that might be of some interest.

The Congressional GOP looks like it's showing off its quality again. Tom Cole (R - Oklahoma) argued that Republicans need more time to review and potentially mark up what looks like a 69-word (to be extra inclusive) bill that literally just ends the National Emergency Declaration for Trump's fake emergency.

It's not limited to the federal level, of course. Minnesota State Representative Cal Bahr (R) talked about how rather vicious violence should be used to fight against... rather common sense gun safety legislation. He's now "apologizing" for the "confusion" that he may have caused with his words. Uh huh. The current GOP is so far past dogwhistling and frequent enough about it that it's really hard to buy that.

Concerned at all about the foreign efforts to mess with our elections? Have no fear! A trumpista's now in charge of the Election Assistance Commission! Some things that one might think would be very bad signs include... blanket denials of Russian interference and serving with and supporting Kobach on the horrendously inept and partisan voter fraud commission.

Oh, and here's a "twist" regarding the imminent summit with North Korea in Vietnam.

Lavrov: We are looking forward to the summit being a success and are trying to contribute to this. We are not making a secret of the fact that the US officials who are in charge of the preparations for the summit are consulting us. We are also maintaining regular contact with our North Korean friends. Motivated by a sincere desire to help, we are recommending ways which could push things along to help achieve results.

Who could have possibly guessed that the Russians are pointedly involved? And that Lavrov will be there. Who wants to guess what Trump's going to do at Putin's behest this time? The military exercises with SK were ended at Putin's behest, last time.

Oh. Just as a bonus... San Diego Sheriff's department tried to charge $354,000 for 48 police 'use of force' records.

On Monday, Feb. 15, San Diego’s KPBS reported that the San Diego Sheriff’s department was asking for quite a bit of money to release records of 48 “use of force cases”—$354,524.22, to be exact. That did not include the cost for an additional 28 cases the department told KPBS they were still calculating. According to the the sheriff’s department, there is lots of redacting to do and hours of labor.

"Hours of labor." Redacting is hard, expensive work, after all. After this was publicized, the fees were suddenly waived, unsurprisingly. That sure looks like something that should be pointedly investigated... and punishments dealt out.

We have a State of Emergency at our Southern Border. Border Patrol, our Military and local Law Enforcement are doing a great job, but without the Wall, which is now under major construction, you cannot have Border Security. Drugs, Gangs and Human Trafficking must be stopped!

Be nice if Spike Lee could read his notes, or better yet not have to use notes at all, when doing his racist hit on your President, who has done more for African Americans (Criminal Justice Reform, Lowest Unemployment numbers in History, Tax Cuts, etc.) than almost any other Pres!
It didn't get much mention, but at least the (Republican) Governor of Mississippi had the guts to admit that had Obama proposed that Criminal Justice Reform, the Republicans would never have allowed it to be passed.

“President Obama couldn’t have done it,” Bryant said during a criminal justice reform panel discussion at the National Governors Association winter meeting in Washington, D.C.

“Because quite honestly, a lot of us probably would’ve screamed and hollered, ‘Oh, oh my goodness, he’s gonna turn ‘em all out on our communities, and there’s gonna be pillaging and crime, and — there they go again’.”

That's why he did it through EOs, such as ending solitary confinement to "protect" juveniles, a lot of sentence commutations, and strongly limiting military surplus sales to local police forces. He also leaned heavily on police to they worked for Maduro.

Dolt 45 got rid of all of that, and has actively encouraged police brutality and tried to end reform efforts. In other words, he even sucks at criminal justice reform.
