horrifying attack on Jussie Smollett

I've been watching a lot of cop dramas lately in which the police often track people's movements, not only from the records of mobile calls made but also from the 'ping' records the phones create. I think the Chicago cops should call Vera ;)

Speaking of "ninjas" ;)

That's not what the local police say, as I earlier quoted. They said that they are absolutely certain that the attackers (should they exist, although they didn't equivocate) must be present in the video footage of one or more of the thousands of cameras in the area. There is no way they can avoid it.

Yeah, the hilited is my issue. Loitering in sub sub freezing temps at 2AM is no picnic, and not seen entering the blind spot or leaving. Getting a little Ocean's Eleven for me, considering we are talking about a couple hillbilly racist types.

It's much harder to do damage with just your hands when attackers and victim are dressed for 4 degrees F and windy...

Very good. And once we eliminate the impossible, what remains...

Even if they took off their gloves, just punching something in that cold would ruin your hands, I've played baseball in 40 degree weather, and it is crippling sting of pain when you make contact with the bat in that temperature.

Last week was literally a chore to take off my gloves and get out my house key.

While the whole race/sexuality/celebrity thing has some juice, the thing that made this take off was the whole MAGA COUNTRY lie.

It was not in the original police report, which is really a head scratcher.

If this was a planned attack it is not entirely implausible.

This all pre-supposes a degree of planning, of course, but not one so complicated that it would take a Bond Villain to pull it off.

If it's a planned attack, what is the motive?

Note that, according to him they said, "Hey, aren't you . . . etc."

Not, "Hey Jussie ..."

They didn't take his wallet, so not a robbery.

Sounds like a lot of trouble to go through for something that seems so random.
"Let's put a piece of rope around his neck and throw some bleach on him."

Because?? What exactly do these attackers stand to gain from this? Makes no sense.

Also, it seems pretty close to Bond villain level planning.

In the report, the first thing they said was "Empire", so they already knew who he was before they attacked him.

Too bad... It would have made a great setup for a limerick.

It doesn't actually say that, it says that 'Empire ***** *****" was reported verbatim. It doesn't say there were no words before or after. According to the initial reporting those words were prefixed by "Aren't you that..."

Anyway, here is the latest news story I could find:

Newly revealed report offers chilling details of alleged Jussie Smollett attack

"Chilling details"

An initial incident report, released by the Chicago Police Department on Monday, revealed that a 60-year-old friend of Smollett called the police on his behalf and said the actor "did not want to report offense however he believed it to be in the best interest to."
They used their hands, feet, and teeth as weapons in the assault, according to the report.

So other than they allegedly used teeth (is there a bite mark?) we learn that he didn't want to report it to police. I guess his friend and manager convinced him to. Or decided to call the police on his behalf even though he was opposed to involving the police.

It says they said "Empire ***** *****" to gain his attention, ie, that's the first thing they said to him.

Why they needed to warn him that they were going to beat him up, I don't know.

It's pretty clear with the letter and the attack that the idea is that this is a deliberate attack on him, and not random.
