Buzzfeed report

Libs: YAY!

Mueller: Nope!

Libs: IT is still real to me!

Professor TBD: Let it go Indiana.

Honest Americans: YAY!

Mueller: Some parts are not accurate..

Honest Americans: OK that makes sense.

TBD who lies about being a professor: Look at me! Look at me!

Desperate Trump Defenders: Mueller is on a witch hunt and he can’t be trusted!

Also Desperate Trump Defenders: Mueller is telling the truth!

"Desperate Trump Defenders" (there are none on this forum) have their guy smiling in the White House.

"The Resistance" (on this forum in hordes) is in a psychosis for over two years now, making no sense at all.

I laughed! Which part was my favorite? Hmm, was it when “honest Americans” totally jumped the gun on a completely uncorroborated story, or the fact that our correspondent has never seen Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade?

Fantastic.

I suppose the question that remains unanswered is - if this report is wrong that Trump directed Cohen to lie to Congress, then why did Cohen's sentencing memo say that Trump had directed Cohen to lie to Congress?
That's why I didn't understand why the Buzzfeed report was considered such a "bombshell." I thought it was already clear that Cohen was directed by Trump to lie, if not to Congress than to investigators. The distinction to me was whether there was documentary evidence.

I don't much like the Democratic response that called for investigating Trump more than they're already investigating Trump. I do not want them retracing Mueller's footsteps. They have other things they need to do. If something is already covered in Mueller's probe, leave well enough alone.

Mueller's denial is not a denial. It almost sounds to me like they're afraid that leaks could get Cohen killed. People have gone into Witness Protection for less.

:jaw-dropp

"BuzzFeed's description of specific statements to the Special Counsel's Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen's Congressional testimony are not accurate," said Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller's office, in a statement.

The Resistance: "'tis but a scratch"
King TBD: A scratch? Your arm's off!!
TR: "Just a flesh wound"

I thought that maybe Mueller was worried that the House might try to impeach on suborning perjury, only to fail because of vague wording (e.g. "You don't need to talk about that" instead of "lie about that") and attorney-client privilege, which would then make it almost impossible to try a subsequent impeachment on much more damning charges.

It’s like watching someone cheer for a football team because the quarterback avoided a sack in a game they’re losing 54-0.

I don't think Mueller is worried about building a foundation for impeachment.

And at this point I don't think the House should impeach. Maybe they will feel obliged to, but the political risks are large. Endless "investigation" and testimony are just going to distract from all the new stupid **** Trump will do, and probably energize his base. There's no real hope the Senate will remove him from office and even if it did, President Pence.

The Senate IMO is not going to worry about campaign violations or obstruction of justice, but Trump's ongoing threat to national security might flip a few of them. Maybe that damage has to happen to open some more eyes.

I don't understand why Trump nominated William Barr as AG. In his confirmation hearings Lindsey Graham has vowed to protect the Mueller investigation and Barr has indicated he won't interfere, yet somehow Trump is convinced Barr is a rubber stamp with personal loyalty to Trump. Who is advising him? Is Barr only pretending to play it straight?

Could it be that Barr IS playing it straight, and whoever advised Trump to nominate him realised that Barr's loyalty would be to the Rule of Law, not the Rule of Trump.

After watching some of the Barr Senate hearings, I'm wondering if Der Trumpenführer might be realising that he's been had.

I've gone back and forth on this. It really depends on the evidence. There is a level of criminality that not only points to the need, but requires impeachment, even if the Republicans refuse to remove Trump from office.

This ISN'T Bill Clinton lying about a blowjob in a deposition. This is potentially POTUS conspiring with a foreign power, probably America's number 1 adversary the last 70 years to rig a US election and then covering it up by firing law enforcement and instructing people to lie to Congress.
