CNN reporting that the Trump Inaugural Committee is under investigation for finacial abuses and accepting donations for political favor. Breaking now. NOT a good week for Trump... AT ALL! Originally broken by the WSJ.

How can Kushner be Chief of Staff without a security clearance?

Criminal investigation, according to CNN.

Two Trump-supporting relatives stopped by in one day. My aunt was claiming that a game show disrespected Trump with one of its questions. You'd think "Family Feud" would be a safe topic. Anyway, I told my aunt I had no respect for Trump but that after all, he is the president. Then she said, "He can't be any worse than Obama."

I was genuinely flummoxed. Turns out Obama refused to return soldiers' salutes and told foreigners that the American people were too weak-minded to govern themselves. I started to explain the whole saluting history, and how Trump disrespected John McCain and veterans' families. But then I deliberately cut myself short. I just said a) the way Trump talks about women is disgusting and b) he cozies up to the worst dictators in the world and c) I can now get health insurance because I can't be turned down for a pre-existing condition.

I think that last one made her think, and I was grateful we were able to have the conversation without losing our tempers (immigration was also brought up :( ; the hordes are preparing to rush the border, overwhelming U.S. security). The emotions are too raw, on both sides, for anything productive to come of it. We need some way to move forward. The status quo is a drag.

Earlier my brother came over (with breakfast :)) and said something about the wall, and stopping the flow of drugs. I mentioned that most drugs come through ports of entry and his answer was, "Yeah, but still!" Maybe just having a few facts at hand, calmly delivered, will help to offset knee-jerk responses, mine included.

I'm wondering if it could even be a good sign that supporters are feeling defensive. Because maybe they'll realize there's no particular reason to defend Trump. Any Republican will do for their purposes; they don't have to settle. I think the staff turnover is beginning to wear down Trump's saner supporters. He can't blame that on "fake news." Trump can't find and keep good help because he's a crap boss, and people can relate to that.

And people hate to admit they have been conned. Never forget that.

Doesn't the VP also traditionally get sent to events that are significant enough that somebody should be there, but which the President doesn't want to attend?

"Mr. President, you've received an invitation to Lithuania's 50th Annual Turnip Festival."
"Eh. Send the VP."

...or the President isn't wanted there. e.g., McCain funeral.

Jared probably doesn't want it either, but he doesn't dare turn it down.

I am under no illusion about Donald and his abilty to do stupid things, but this would be so momunmentally stupid that for nowI am going for this is just a rumor. But I admit I could be wrong....

Anyway right now the White House Switchbard is overloading with phone calls from GOP big wigs yelling "Dont't Do It ,Donald, Don"t Do It1".

This would be monumentally stupid. I'd like to say even Trump is this stupid. But you never know.

Oh please, oh please,... this would be even better (if somewhat less entertaining) than Gingrich as CoS.

By “better”, of course, I mean “spectacularly bad for the Trump crime gang, with 1500% of the RDA of laugh-out-loud riducule to boot”.

It’s so perfect I have a hard time believing this rumor. He’ll probably wind up with some routine boring dirtbag who will be no more help than the other moral cripples he’s already used as human Kleenex in that role.
