Cont: The Trump Presidency IX: Nein, Nein!

Dear Leader is holding a lengthy press conference now at which he is nearly incomprehensible. Among his claims: Obama would have gone to war with North Korea and only Trump saved the world, and that a China scholar has claimed Trump has a "very very large brain." The factcheckers will be busy for days.

Uh, he had eight years. During which he was reviled by some on the right for NOT going to war with North Korea.

Trump is now claiming that China is meddling in the 2018 elections against the Republicans.
He is up to his old tricks of de-legitimizing a vote he expects to lose.

Uh huh. I might be more sympathetic to that tactic if Trump and the Republicans in Congress had done ANYTHING to actually defend our elections. No, signing an executive order allowing things to be done that were already legislated into being is not really something. Sanctions to punish for interference are something, but they don't secure anything to prevent further interference.

I heard it on the way home from work and it was a struggle to keep listening.

Despicable, ignorant, and narcissistic would sum it up. Trump is such an embarrassment to the country.

What this administration desperately needs is a Minister Of Don't Do Stupid. I know, wishful thinking on my part... For now I'll just be standing around in a state of slack jawed dumbfoundedness for a bit after that one. :jaw-dropp

You don't even have to go out on the extremes, a lot of ordinary republican voters are echoing the sentiment, that Trump is such a toxic character with so much baggage, that his surprising victory could only be explained by divine intervention.

As for the likes of 4chan (aren't they on 8chan these days?) and the_donald, is that it's Poe's law taken to the extreme. It's impossible to tell who's actually serious about it and who's just parroting it for the lulz.

Yeah, I just have a certain difficulty believing that someone could use that phrase seriously. But then, at this point, who knows?

That actually wouldn't be surprising. Trump's been such an asshat to China that, if they're going to meddle, of course they'd try to get the more reasonable party in power.

Of course they were. They are like most of us. The learned about Lincoln and both Roosevelts, Truman and Eisenhower. They learned how Lincoln formed a coalition who had previously bested him politically and legally to create the team the led the nation in defeating the forces of slavery. They learned about the Panama Canal and Teddy Roosevelt's stewardship of the project. Eton, Padova and Sindelfingen beat into their heads the Marshal plan that kept Western Europe from going Communists. These are all people who learned about American exceptionalism and greatness before they started wearing long pants to school. Now, a usurper like Trump comes and attempts to claim an ill-gotten place in our pantheon as well as membership in the exclusive club of diplomatic elites, why wouldn't they laugh. They know he's done nothing to earn a place in their ranks. They laughed because he wants to be in their club and they know he's just not good enough.

About as close to watching a crack form in a dam as one gets. Things may still look good for some time, but fundamental change is occurring. Upside in losing reserve currency status is devaluation and an export boom. Downside is inflation, and eventually needing to borrow on international markets in other currencies, which, unlike dollars, can bite the US hard with debt revaluations.

I was pretty much expecting something like this to happen. Trump is trying to exert influence on the entire world banking structure using US law, in order to impose his will on the rest of the world. It's no surprise that everyone else would decide to create a "No Homers" banking club that excludes Americans, so that they can carry on business between themselves without interference from Trump and his cronies.

Totally predictable, and completely not predicted by Trump.

President Trump said Wednesday that he has years to reach an agreement with North Korea to rid the country of nuclear weapons, reversing the position he took a year ago that Pyongyang had to disarm rapidly.

“I don’t want to get into the time game,” he said at a news conference late in the day, after serving as chairman of a United Nations Security Council meeting on nuclear proliferation.

“I got all the time in the world,” Mr. Trump said. “I don’t have to rush it.”

All the time in the world folks!

The claim that Obama was about to go to war with North Korea was pretty crazy.

I think he might have said something like Obama had his “finger on the button” or something like that.

The man is mayor of Crazytown. Of course he believes that President Obama was this close [holds fingers up] to going to war with NK. The man believes that President Obama, not Putin, was responsible for the Crimean invasion.

Details in June 15, 2018 Press Gaggle

(the last exchange with reporters).

I would so love for President Trump to do a 60-minute audio tape about the history of the world in the last 30 years. Offer him all the research he requests, have historians prepared to answer any questions, let him consult any reference materials he chooses. Just let him talk for 60-minutes.

On Wednesday, Trump argued during a news conference that "they weren't laughing at me, they were laughing with me."

"We had fun," Trump said. "That was not laughing at me. So the fake news said 'people laughed at President Trump.' They didn't laugh at me, people had a good time with me. We were doing it together, we had a good time."

Again one has to wonder, does he actually believe his lies?

Well he's either completely and utterly insane for believing that they actually laughed with him or he's incredibly stupid, dumb as a brick, for thinking that anyone would actually believe such a pathetic and laughable lie.

Either way, he's the President of the US. That alone is proof there are crazier people out there who would actually vote for this lunatic.

Or, it’s an ingrained tactic to always assert that which you wish to be true.

For instance, that he won the women’s vote. He asserts that he did. Repeatedly. In spite of the fact it’s demonstrably not true.

It’s an odd tactic, but appears not to have had much of a downside to this point. One might even say it’s helped elevate him to where he is today. But if he ever finds himself testifying under oath, the same tactic may not work as well.

False dichotomy.
Crazy people can be stupid.
