Via Seth Abramson, the cost of the Mueller investigation so far is about $7 million. Trump just inflated the number because when has he ever not done so?

For perspective, the cost of Trump's golf trips so far has been about $70 million.

Normally, I'd point something out about the cynical use of "black" and "Hispanic" unemployment.

Dolt 45 is so stupid and willfully delusional that he may actually think that this will lead to a massive shift to the GOP among either group.

It won't. Even Tim Scott is like "look, I'm trying to get him to understand here, it's the best I can do." Most other supporters are either mentally ill, paid, or possibly seduced by an amateurish Russian asset.

Also, "Homegrown Terror Events"? I'll just assume they're taking credit for the upswing in open white supremacist violence.

In light of this (and more) you're still on the fence???!!! Un-***********-believeable. Do you have to have an atom bomb go off under your butt to get you to move out of neutral?

Largely I take issue with your personal attack, implied profanity and snarky phrases like "enlighten me."

You made it about me which I consider not to be a great invitation to discuss something in good faith. Basically you're asking - and I'm paraphrasing here - how I can be such a sniveling, obtuse, mealy-mouthed ignorant ass.

But, OK, on a quick pass:
  • The word "union" does not occur in that op-ed, and I didn't invoke it. Pedantic? Why, yes, but don't put it in quotes if it's not a quote.
  • "Without that being in his portfolio?" How do you know? You don't know the duties of this person.
  • I agree someone is protecting the GOP agenda and have said as much, but that agenda is only peripherally related to Trump. Actions Congress has taken would have occurred under any GOP president and probably under Clinton as well. There's nothing in there about Supreme Court nominees which might be more to the point.
  • He/she is not implementing policy; a group is trying to stay the course on policy. The op-ed references autocrats and containing Trump's impulses, but it doesn't say anything about subverting Trump policies. Trump has no policies; only impulses.
  • Bullet point #3 is ambiguous due to some clashing clauses. But seeking to parse: I don't what this person's "sworn duty" is. I don't know if every single official swears to uphold the will of the voters, or even the Constitution (and if so let's see the words used). But in curbing Trump, (to the extent that they have), they are arguably honoring the will of voters, since the majority of voters didn't vote for Trump. And what are the "steps necessary" to do that undefined sworn duty? He shouldn't have done this? Fine, what should he have done?
  • The cited "checks and balances" are not the sole responsibility of this individual. I mean, they're hanging by a thread but that's not directly related to the actions of this writer, and the op-ed gives no specific example of how this individual is personally threatening them, and that subject is only peripherally related to Trump anyway. Any Republican president would have asked Congress to cut taxes, beef up the military and confirm the same Supreme Court nominees Trump has.
  • Without more details I am not making a call on ethics. I may yet; but if they hid the nuclear football, I'm on their side. But I'm not sure I want that made public at this time. My point was you don't know everything and neither do I.

That's enough for now. I have tried to answer without personalization, sarcasm, snark, anger, profanity etc. If you're just trying to pick a fight, screw it, I think I've done my part. If your point is that anonymous op-eds directly enable Trump and shouldn't be allowed, fine. Take it up with the New York Times. I don't blame the writer for wanting to remain anonymous. Does that make that writer a "pseudo-patriot"? That's not a label I wish to apply at this time. IMO, it's possible they are trying to do the right thing. Obviously you may disagree. I'm not going to call you names or insult your intelligence over it.

That is progress of a sort. As the successively worse weeks continue, a point may be reached at which some scales must fall from even the most scale-encrusted eyes.

There are people who mightn't be in a position to invoke the 25th. This might be their resignation letter - their identity is pretty likely to come out, but until it is confirmed, it seems to have caused FUD in Trump's circle. Which might be the best they can hope for.

Distracting Trump is a worthwhile aim of itself.

However I agree that they are also far from blameless and have been enabling Trump - so partly agree with your assessment.
