Thank goodness he did. The cops of America are racist slime that murder without regard any black man they can. I'm glad someone called them out for it and pissed off conservatives at the same time.

All the cops, murderers racist slime.

Even the black ones, hell especially the black ones folks!

Any cop who stands by silently when one of their fellow cops goes over the line, any cop who joins that Blue Wall of Silence, any cop who doesn't speak out against police abuse of their authority is a "problem cop".

Can all of these friends, relatives, and acquaintances of yours say, in truth, that they are never among those who are silent?

If not, then they too are "problem cops".

You don't get it. You're as bad as them. You've turned it into an 'us' vs 'them' issue. The cops are simply the bad guys. You've made it tribal.

Cops ARE NECESSARY. There ARE issues. Cops necessarily feel a loyalty to other cops. They have each other's backs because everybody hates cops including rich white guys. Cops will tell you they hate bad cops more than the public does as they make their jobs much much harder.

Here in Seattle, the hardest thing is to get rid of a bad cop once they've gone past their probationary period. But before then they can get rid of a cop for virtually any reason. That's a problem. There needs to be a better way to get rid of bad cops.

I'm a supporter of police. I'm also a supporter of racial justice and peaceful protests. This isn't a black and white or a black and blue issue. If you think all cops are bad or even half are bad, you're also having a knee jerk reaction A good cop is someone who wants to serve the community. Who cares about his fellow man and wants to protect them from harm.

Policing isn't an easy job. It's a job with absurd contradictions, cross-purposes and unintended reactions. And nowhere is that more evident than it is in the black community. Nowhere is the protection of police more needed and wanted. But, nowhere is their presence resented and feared more and nowhere are cops lives more at peril than it is in them.

I don't blame all the blacks, I also don't blame all the cops.

I get sick of simplistic bumper sticker answers when there aren't any simple answers. Whatever happened to reasonable people knowing that some problems are difficult to address and we have to work at them together?

Hilited: You're better than that argument. I never said any such thing. In fact, I specifically pointed out that there were sufficient bad apples (which means there are good ones....).

So, to be clear, I'll reiterate my objection. There are sufficient documented examples of bad cops putting willful violence, even murder, on black victims that I think that Kaepernick not only has every right to protest in the fashion he chose, but has an obligation to do so. As do the other protesters. If their employer(s) choose to allow them to do so, then there's no legal issue, not according to our leading libertarian-conservative-progressive members.

So I really fail to understand what the argument is about. The dickwad in the White House wants to tell me that I have to behave in a certain manner when the National Anthem is played? Thanks but I have that here under a REAL military dictatorship.

yep. and well before he entered the NFL when he was even more overhyped. so why didn't he do anything then if he really card that much.? he only became 'aware' when he got benched for being ******?

Say what? I remember this argument from the ********* who ran the selective service back when there was one. "If you're such a pacifist conscientious objector why don't we have earlier evidence of that?" Uh, because I was ten and I only came into this philosophy as I matured.

People grow and people change. I don't give a rat's ass when he had his come to FSM moment. The question is whether or not he is entitled to his opinions and whether his employers allow him to express those in the workplace. It's the free market at work.

Why does he have an obligation to do so? If statistics show bias in selection of blacks for criminal violations by police, as I believe they do, yet show that once selected by police the rates of violent escalation are similar to non-blacks, as I believe the statistics also show, then he should be protesting the bias for cops focus on blacks for perceived criminal behavior, and not for cops killing blacks. His obligation therefore should be in how to combat bias, which may be unconscious and correctable by training.
All aside from his actual protesting, which I feel he should be free to do, albeit ineffective in my opinion.

I hope this is the beginning of Kap being one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL. I would really like that.

I just don't find Nike shoes comfortable. Guess I'll have to pony up for their shirts.

Well, he is not in the NFL, so.... yeah.

I don't have a damn problem with Kap protesting. I have a problem with those that think it's wrong that he does. But I'll be damned if I'm going to sit back and see the police painted with a broad brush.

Don't trash your Nike stuff, donate to those in need.

Wait, you are not on the NIKE board buying back shares the other day at a 3 percent break? With corp tax so low now, buying back a stock which went from 50 to 80 in one year, needs a 3 percent break to take the windfall tax break buy back action, imagine the leap frog in profit.

Was the Nike ad a play on trump supports who will boycott something they never buy in the first place. A boycott which will die out like an IPO initial price surge in days or weeks.

Any way - the comedy now writes itself - trump has no clue he is comedy writer

There is always risk. But say what you want about Nike, they know how to market.

I think so. And leave it Nike to create a kick ass ad campaign around him.

For Nike, this is an undoubted victory.

[...]

It can be argued that this is too controversial. But my bet is it will be highly successful.

I think it's a brilliant marketing strategy.

I'm not defending Nike. I'm just saying this very well may be a very smart marketing campaign.

It's a kick ass ad.

Nike knows exactly what they are doing.

Nike's Favorability Drops Double Digits Following New ‘Just Do It’ Campaign with Colin Kaepernick

"Real-time brand tracking data reveals a sharp drop in favorability and purchasing consideration, including among key demographic groups"

Key Findings:

1. Nike’s Favorability Drops by Double Digits: Before the announcement, Nike had a net +69 favorable impression among consumers, it has now declined 34 points to +35 favorable.

2. No Boost Among Key Demos: Among younger generations, Nike users, African Americans, and other key demographics, Nike’s favorability declined rather than improved.

3. Purchasing Consideration Also Down: Before the announcement, 49 percent of Americans said they were absolutely certain or very likely to buy Nike products. That figure is down to 39 percent now.

4. The Effect on the NFL Seems Small, For Now: Forty percent of consumers said Nike’s campaign does not make them more or less likely to watch/attend NFL games — 21 percent said more likely and 26 percent said less likely (14 percent didn’t know).

I have mixed feelings; for Kap to work again in the NFL would be a nice kick in the butt for Trump, but as a 49ers fan I felt that Kapernick went downhill as a quarterback fast after his Superbowl appreance. THe Niners were trying to move him before the protest controversy.
I think Kap should get a job as a QB but he does not derserve top money. I think he is pretty much a Journeyman QB at this point.

But do those 'poll numbers' reflect people who actually actively buy their athletic wear? For example, you could find lots of 50 year olds who might say they would buy Nike gear because they want to appear athletic when answering a poll, but in reality are not really customers. Also it doesn't measure the passion of their poll sample. Have you seen the ad? Few people have. No way can you judge the power of the marketing campaign just yet. I could be wrong. But my bet is that it will be successful or have a negligible effect.

I'd take him in a minute as a backup to Russell Wilson. I also think he could start for 10 of the teams in the league.

Faced with a demotion as quarterback, he opted for a lateral "promotion" to celebrity activist.
