Of course there isn't a downside for Kaepernick. His NFL career is over. He might as well collect another paycheck, and I certainly don't begrudge him that.

There may, however, be a downside for Nike and the NFL. We shall see.

There is always risk. But say what you want about Nike, they know how to market.

For what it's worth, I think the baboon is probably the least human-looking of all the simians.

They ARE one of the the least similar.

Catarrhines Simians are either Cercopithecoids (which baboons and old world monkeys are, all have a tail and a dog like face) or Hominoidea (which include chimpanzees, bonobos, orangutans great apes and humans..don't have tails and a more similar facial structure.

Now that I scratched that pedantic itch...where were we?

The Platyrrhini (new world monkeys) are also simians, though not Catarrhines.

The Strepsirrhini (not simians but still primates) includes some really weird stuff, like the aye-aye.

I wonder how Nike feels about Mahmoud Ahmadinejad rallying to Kaepernick's defense?

Tell me where it is at in 6 months. As someone who trades stocks somewhat frequently,
It's easy to see that some news pieces can have short term effects that are usually balanced out within days.

Probably indifferent.

"The US says they're for freedom, but look how they treat black/Native American people!" is an old rhetorical trick used by questionable leaders across the planet. Iranian leaders get to toss in Palestinians for good measure.

DOesn't harm Kaepernick, any more than it harmed any civil rights worker, to note the glaring hypocrisy of pro-violence bigots here, even if they apparently never care much about it.

Obviously they feel their main market will be in favor of the ad.

I think so. And leave it Nike to create a kick ass ad campaign around him.

I bet they can enlist a bunch of veterans that support Kaepernick in their ads. Have you seen Beto's response to this issue?

FYI:

For Nike, this is an undoubted victory. Kaepernick’s jersey has consistently topped NFL merchandise sales, despite not having been on a roster for the past two seasons. Celebrities often publicly support Kaepernick’s causes, amplifying his reach. In fact, Kaepernick has already generated $43 million in media exposure for Nike since the announcement of the new campaign.

It can be argued that this is too controversial. But my bet is it will be highly successful. Nike has its share of suckups and weak wimps who only care about themselves ...I give you Tiger Woods.
