One thing Trump's base knows is the Democrats' are now openly for an end to capitalism, so we are the only rational major party in the country.

AHAHAHAHA

Us high school dropouts don't have a game to step up. I do know that trying to do away with capitalism in the U.S. is just stupid, so I don't feel I'm out of my depth here.

Yeah, it would be just stupid. If you think that Democrats are actually trying to do away with capitalism, though, you've been suckered rather incredibly. In general, Democrats are very, very much in favor of capitalism. It's just that we recognize that the free market is only self-sustaining under near optimal conditions... conditions that very frequently are not the case in the real world, and tend to be in favor of regulations that will keep society and as close to a free market as is reasonable running as smoothly as possible under imperfect conditions. We don't like suffering the consequences of businesses exploiting things so that they get rich while pushing off many of the costs onto the rest of us, either, frequently greatly magnifying the total costs incurred in the process. There's an old saying, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Many of the less savory businesses try to claim that the ounce of prevention is an onerous burden on them, though, and they tend to be far more focused in their activism.

It may be worth noting that even the more socialism-leaning Democrats, such as they are, tend to value most capitalist principles quite a bit. It's just that they don't like, for example, corporate executives who answer only to themselves and a few wealthy stockholders making basic economic decisions affecting millions of people. Even they don't want the government trying to centrally control the economy.

I don't get the insistence of Republicans on calling it the "Democrat" Party, instead of the "Democratic" Party. I suppose it's supposed to be some sort of insult?

It was. I pretty much grew up with the term Democrat, though, and had always considered it to be neutral and easier to say. I'm likely not going to stop using it, at this point. Saying the Democrat Party therefore means nothing more to me than that it's the party of the Democrats, whatever dogwhistle moronics they may be employing.

You do know we can just follow Trump on Twitter if we want to know every time he twits something, right?

It's relevant enough to the thread that there's not much point in objecting. Either way, I don't use Twitter and I don't mind seeing them posted here. I just skip over them if I don't feel like reading them, though.

Water and water rights have long been an intensely evil dark side of California politics and manipulated by wealthy interests. People have literally been murdered for their water (and I would not ask too many questions if I were you). The movie Chinatown originates in a real story of how LA stole the water rights to the Owen Valley, leaving what was a productive agricultural area a desert. And the water grabs continue.

Much of this represents the arid southern portions of the State seeking ever more water from the wetter northern portions of the State and from other states even as far away as Washington. Mostly to sustain increases in agricultural plantings and increased housing development. But northern California is not a completely innocent victim in this regard. Although historically having a reasonable amount of runoff from winter rains, increased planting of water hungry crops such as almonds, and the recent droughts, have led to many farmers and other commnities to pump ground water out much faster than it can ever be replaced. The wells begin to fail, the ground subsides, etc. Just a titanic disaster in the making. Instead of the Louis XV "After me the deluge" their slogan appears to be "After me the dust bowl."

But this is not unique to California. Water is money and power and corrupt and cynical attempts to control it exist almost every state. For example water rights to many rivers are given to stake holders" as absolute acre-feet based on the best runoff years, rather than as percents of the actual flow in any given year. How can this make sense?

Notably however none of this relates to wild fires.
As per the film Chinatown, one of my favorites with Jack N.

True, but the Pacific Northwest does not get as dry as Most of California does.

My points were that forest fires happen in most forests where there are dry months whether there's water flowing through or not, and that therefore re-routing water will neither prevent them nor more readily bring them under control. Like other weather-related phenomena, sometimes the best humans can do is take cover or run away.

Does anyone know what the hell he's talking about? Forest and water management is a difficult subject. It virtually doesn't matter how it is managed, someone will complain about it. Probably some timber company that wants to cut down the last of the Redwoods got in his ear?

He probably heard about how awful California is doing everything and anything on Fox News.

What amazes me is that if you buy into the idea that the drought was because of water management how did the 120 million conifer trees die?

Science says that lack of rain plus beetle infestations led to that many conifer trees dying. But I guess conservatives think that it was actually dam releases.

Trump, the GOP and and possibly a majority of Americans have come to the conclusion that allocating blame is far better than trying to solve a problem.

This is Lemon's blistering on-air response to the LeBron tweet: Don Lemon rips Trump over personal attack

Don Lemon has what Trump will never have: class, dignity, and intelligence.

Trump is the most childish, petty, insecure person old I've ever seen. What happened in his past to make him think so little of himself that he has to attack anyone and everyone who does not boost his fragile little ego?

Trump tweets

"The Iran sanctions have officially been cast. These are the most biting sanctions ever imposed, and in November they ratchet up to yet another level. Anyone doing business with Iran will NOT be doing business with the United States. I am asking for WORLD PEACE, nothing less!"

For all his bellicose Tweets, President Trump has demonstrate that (so far, thank goodness) he is a paper tiger who is susceptible to lavish praise. All Iran have to do is agree to meet him, have a meaningless piece of paper signed and allow President Trump to brag about how he's saved the world and it's all good.

For the record, I'm glad that President Trump shouts loudly and carries a little twig.

It is simple, conservatives hate rivers. They want the only ones that reach the ocean to be totally mining waste.
