I look forward to Swoop's posts keeping us updated on the latest Twit-In-Chief's twittly tweeter tweets.

It's become my new daily ritual:

- grab coffee
- put feet up on desk
- go to ISF site
- see what's new in the world of Swoop's Twit-Boss tweet commentary extravaganza


There's always something new to laugh at each and every day.

I think it's more likely that he just doesn't know that water naturally flows to ocean and has be diverted away for other uses. Imagine trying to his science advisor. It's no wonder the position has been left vacant it would be a Sisyphean task to teach him the basics. Just listen to him talking about the F-35.

Candace Owens,who said Blacks should not be concerned about the resurgence of White Nationalism.
Candace Owens whored herself out to Trump a long time ago. She is held in zero regard by the black community for good reason.
She is one of the House N Words for the far right.

And we upon the first anniversary of Charlottelviell, where the POTUS proved to all but the True Beleivers that he is a bigot or is willing to use bigotry as a political weapon.
 
The drought ended two years ago. The wildfires are a seasonal threat that happen irrespective of good rain in the winter months. The reality is that in California it never rains during the summer. As a result things get really dry by August even if there is water in rivers.


And the forest service has been aggressively reducing fuel loads. I'm honestly wondering where he is getting this new nonsense.

Here's another take on Trump's tweets about water in California. It comes from Devin Nunes.

In this district, Mr. Nunes is more closely associated with campaigning for farmers on water issues than anything to do with Russia — pushing for more dams and trying to get more water from Northern California in the face of a shortage that many fear could turn into another drought.

His efforts have largely failed to solve the problem, which his Republican constituents here blame on environmentalists and Democrats in Sacramento, California’s capital, who they say are more interested in saving the smelt from extinction than serving the region’s farmers with enough water, an issue that President Trump took up during his campaign.

The problem of course is that it is NONSENSE and water issues have nothing to do with fighting wild fires.

This. California has a Medditernean type climate,and that means in most years you get very little rain between The Middle of May and the Beginning of November. Even in years with heavy rainfall in the Winter things are dry during the summer.
(Exception is the Coast North of San Francisco which is pretty damp during the summer. But little of that wetness gets inland past the Northren Coast ranges.

And to make things interesting , farmers in the Central Valley are often the most vigorous opponents of sending more water to the South...and their Congressional Reps,(generally GOP) are also opposed to sending more water to the South.
It's an issue that cuts across party lines.

Wildfires happen in any forest during dry months. We have no dangerous water shortage in the Pacific Northwest but trees still end up burning when the summer comes around.
 
I check the actual tweets every morning and afternoon. Sometimes I'm really tempted to ninja the Captain if there's a particularly egregious one. But I'll usually just paraphrase and comment on it if it's not up here yet.

True, but the Pacific Northwest does not get as dry as Most of California does.
 
BTW here In Sacramento it's very smoky today with the smoke from the various Wildfires seeping in...the Menodocino being the worst.
 
All the upthread explanations as to the California climate are absolutely correct: some 6 months of the year are dry and inevitably result in increased fire danger until the next rainy season comes. High fire risk has nothing to due with irrigation or domestic water use: most of the fires are in, or originate in, wildness or have been so driven by high temperatures and winds that they have been able to also spread into more suburban and town settings. It is not as if a Republican State government would have installed water sprinklers every 10 feet of acreage in the state!

A few things I recently learned that I think interesting:

Being in a typical house within a nice suburban town with manicured and watered lawns and trees doesn't necessarily save you from wild fire: in the recent Petaluma fires for example high winds allowed the blaze to jump from roof to roof of the houses even with lots of healthy greenery around them. And it all can happen very quickly: the Petaluma fire jumped from nearby woods into the town and began to destroy hundreds of homes within minutes. It is amazing more people did not die.

And although periodic wildfires are a long-established consequence of the California climate (indeed some tree species cannot reproduce without a experiencing a fire), the intensity and frequency of wildfires depends on, and appears to have increased, due to climate change (lets say it softly so as to not upset Trump). California winters have become more mild and shorter, with less rainfall on average over the past decades and the summers hotter.

One can also take to task development that results in the inappropriate building of more and more homes in high fire risk areas and poor design/construction/sales of the houses that are built that leave them particularly vulnerable (relatively flammable roof materials, decks and large windows that overhang vegetation rich hills, etc.). I wonder what kind of fire resistance Trump's resorts have.

But what does any of the truth matter when it comes to Trump and his supporters? But politics aside, however, ultimately does one not have to actually understand a problem to try to fix it? We are truly in big trouble!

Not that it's important, but Michael Jordan basically ignored Donnie's :I Like Mike" tweet and is supporting LeBron James in his feud with Trump.

Nothing in California is more contentious than water issues. No one is ever happy. I read an article a few months ago wher Governor Brown is accused of favoring the farmers over fishermen.
