When I see the way those people at Trump's rally behaved, I just despair for the future of this country. I know the saying that when you mention Hitler, you've lost the argument. However, when I watch old films of Hitler rallies, I don't see much difference between the two. The hatred and demonization of anything and anyone not pro-Trump is overwhelming. When I hear Trump call the media the "enemy of the people", I hear Stalin. When I hear journalists and the news called "fake", I hear every dictator who then goes on to control the media.
In the antebellum South, the most vehemently racist people were usually poor whites who did not even own slaves. Why did they support the slave system that really DID take their jobs away? Because it gave them someone to feel superior to. As long as there was someone who was held in even lower regard than they were, they could feel better about themselves. It's the same with Trump's base who tend to be lower income white males. Illegal immigrants and Muslims are their new Blacks.
