Cont: Brexit: Now What? Part 5

Brexit really made/makes me angry, but more often than not I simply feel numb at the prospect and consequences of two leading nations almost simultaneously going entirely bonkers. Could it be some sort of early Zika virus with an Anglo fetish went undetected?

It's the hate directed at anyone pointing out that it's maybe not a good idea and that we didn't vote for May's preferred Brexit that gets me.

And the fact that Putin loves this.

You just have to go as far as Ireland, you can driver there and back

That won't work due to the fantastic (in a literal sense) technology based solution that will eliminate smuggling of people and goods while maintaining an entirely invisible and frictionless border.

OK, so less distance to sail?

So TM is about to announce formally that she rejects the backstop proposal on Northern Ireland that she said she agreed to at the time.

A deal is then impossible and the blue passports will have to be put on hold while ration books are printed.

This could get us Bs out of a hole ... I buy a boat with the remains of our cash and deliver Greek produce and pharmaceuticals. It's a long trip, but Greek tomatoes are sooo good and would fetch top $/£/€.

Do they still patrol the coves of Cornwall looking for smugglers?

Well apparently you will need a boat since Ireland is threatening to ground flights from the UK, despite the fact that the RAF provides air defence for Ireland!

Also over flight rights are a non EU issue, and international agreements pre-date the EU. Mr Varadkar seems to be turning a bit Trumpish.

The backstop in the EU draft withdrawal agreement is not the same as that in the December agreement, it ignores all the caveats.

Then it's about time that the UK comes up with a decent and workable proposal for the backstop...

The Times reports that Theresa May will put the country "on a no-deal Brexit footing" with "weekly bundles" of advice being given to consumers and companies.

A no deal Brexit is the only possible outcome bearing in mind all of Theresa May's contradictory red lines and a reliance on technology which doesn't exist :(

A no deal Brexit has been shown by a number of economic think tanks to be the most economically damaging and IMO will make the UK a "vassal" of the US instead of being a very influential full member of the EU.

A no deal Brexit will result in a transfer of sovereignty from Parliament and the British people to the GOP, corporations and other groups who see the UK economy ripe for some vulture-capitalism style asset stripping. There will be a veneer of control from Westminster but we will be in the thrall of the US and the large corporations when it comes to accepting chlorinated chickens, rolling back environmental and workers' protections and getting rid of human rights.

and its starting to look like that was the plan all along.

Can't be having pesky public services and a decent NHS so just trash th economy to force it into private hands. And the mugs went along with it because Muslims.

But...but...this can't happen because Project Fear was all rubbish.

Then again, maybe once this stuff starts to land some people might finally understand they've been had.

I can dream, can't I?

Even if they realise that "they've been had" (and I think most Brexiteers would accept almost literally anything as a price worth paying to be out of the EU), we've had the referendum, Brexit means Brexit and there's nothing more to say.

I've never in my life felt so pessimistic about the future as I have over the last couple of years, and prospects seem to be getting worse all the time. I'm looking on in a mixture of disbelief and horror as those in authority on both sides of the Atlantic lie blatantly and act against the interests of their countries and people, and yet are cheered by flag waving masses.

To be followed sometime later by weekly food parcels?

Is it just a coincidence that this is happening as the last of the 30s/40s generation leave us?
