The Trump Presidency VII

From the same interview on why he wants Russia back in G7

"If Putin were sitting next to me & we were having dinner, I could say, 'would you do me a favor? Would you get out of Syria? Would you get out of Ukraine? Just come on.'... I could ask him to do things that are good for the world."
More magic Trump-land imagination.

So predictable.

Sure, just ask. Why not? He solved North Korea that way.

SO basically, a white supremacist spin on GOB from Arrested Development.

And here I was thinking a white supremacist spin on Charlie from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia was more apt, but either way...

No way. Charlie is a) smarter and b) sexier than Trump could ever have dreamt of being. Also the gang did solve the North Korea problem, remember?

She's right, GOP complacency would be bad. But the second part? Is she warning GOP members of Congress who might be tempted to criticize Trump?
(bolding mine)

Yes, that's how I understood it.
A less sinister interpretation would be that she just warns GOP candidates that if they don't fully support Trump they are in danger of losing their primary.

However one reads it, it is one more confirmation that, for now, the GOP is not a party, but a cult of personality (and, boy, did they pick a weird personality for their cult).

Well, I'm sure he could've asked him those questions. He would also get an answer that he would understand to be to his liking. That's all well in line with reality, he did and recieved just that with North Korea.

Beyond that is where the imaginary la-la-la land begins.

Not really a weird personality, Trump is completely in line with other such people: Chavez, Putin, Berlusconi, Orban and Erdogan all have the same key characteristics:
1. Narcissistic
2. Appealing to the deplorable vote
3. Claiming everything is someone elses' fault, usually evil foreigners
4. Compulsive liar

All have the same voter base too: people who adore and worship them and seem unable to grasp their faults. There are differences - Chavez was notably socialist whereas Berlusconi, Orban, Erdogan and Trump are all nominally right-wingers and Putin is an opprotunist hyena - but their key message is the same, their key strategy is the same, their voter base is the same, their behavior in office is the same and, this is important, all benefit greatly from having an opposition in disarray and unable to close their ranks.

This last bit is important, I think. A well organized anti-Trup (or any other) election in a proper democratic setting would unseat these clowns in no time. Chavez destroyed Venezuelan democracy before croacking, Erdogan did Turkey in for the most part, Putins' work was done by Yeltsin for him, but Berlusconi was unable to get his party in power in Italy, his allies joined up with some hugely popular weirdos who wouldn't cocause with him instead. We'll see how Orban and Trump pull it off, Hungary and USA are all still sufficiently democratic to be unseated with the next election. Yes, I know Hungary just had one, but if their opposition closes ranks they can still begin healing the country.

Well, Charlie is player by an actual actor, after all.

Smarter? They both have a lunatic idea of what being a "wild card" is, they're both desperate for praise, they're both barely literate and prone to rambling incoherently.

I wonder if Dolt 45 "just gets" pianos...

One wonders why he hasn't done so in one of the many phone calls he's had with Putin. Just think, we could have had world peace by now. I wonder why he doesn't just sort it all out with a brief conversation, like he has North Korea.

Trump... jesus h...

Firstly, I went to go and verify that this is what he actually said, and yes, yes it was. 'plz bro.. just.. u no, do the rite thing'.

Anyway, if it had happened, we'd just see a tweet the next day that reads "Not many people know this but Crimia belonged to Putin to begin with and he just took it back. Also Russia are not in Syria. This is a MS-13-loving Dem Hoax!!11"

HW was fairly good President. Not perfect, but certainly above average in the last 50 years. W wasn’t the smartest but was always a good person trying to do good things. His issue was that he believed too much of the propaganda even though the Republican Party was already starting to contradict itself.

Except for the whole war crimes things. But hey lots of good people torture innocent people to death not a big deal.

As we know it. But it has already changed. Free markets and fiscal responsibility were always core principles and they were thrown out. Right now, it is a cult of personality.

It will reinvent itself as all parties do.

What fiscal responsibility? That hasn't been more than talking points for 40 years. You use it to win votes not shape policy. It is always tax cut and spend.

Agreed, but he’s are idiot and he’s doing everything we want. He’s obliterating the lefts agenda, I’m certainly going to cheer him on.
Only an idiot would do everything you want. Keep cheering him on and you'll encourage his idiocy even more. Where that will end I don't know. In Hitler's case - another populist xenophobe cheered on by idiots - it ended drowned in the snows at the gates of Moscow, and nemesis soon followed.

What is the reasoning for the Comcast and Time Warner merger being denied, but the AT&T and Time Warner merger accepted?

I know this is off topic but didn't want to create a new thread just for that

From what i remember it wasn't denied. Comcast withdrew in the face of an anti-trust suit being brought by the DoJ, while the AT&T deal went through the suit and won.

In an earlier interview with Lou Dobbs, June 12th, McDaniels said “Anyone who doesn’t embrace the Trump agenda and doesn’t recognize the issues that propelled us to victory in White House is going to be making a mistake” and just seems to have pleased enough with that line to try and repeat it on twitter. It's probably come across as a little more ominous-sounding than intended (ie electoral hopefuls - the base likes these things, so if you don't support it, you will lose).

Dobbs' reply: “Hopefully the speaker, if he is not too busy being obsequious to all of the lobbyists and the donor class in this country, heard you and will take the lesson,”.”
