Roseanne Barr off the air

I don't like Donald Trump because I think that he's an anti-intellectual buffoon.

But when people refer to him as an orangutan they are specifically talking about him resembling that ape and nobody really proposes that that person is consciously or subconsciously referring to the white race as being orangutans. Then you move to Roseanne Barr saying that Valerie Jarrett is like a cross of a Muslim and Planet of the Apes and you suddenly have something that is supposed to refer to the entire black race, or whatever racism is supposed to be.

Why can't Roseanne be talking about a specific person instead of a whole race? It seems anti-intellectual to reflexively label her as a racist without entertaining the bigger picture of the cultural trap that is set when a white person says negative things about a black person.

There really may be something like everyday racism against white people if whites have to be very careful about their words. Importantly, non-racist white people may have to be extra careful because they may live in a world of everyday racism aimed at them.
Roseanne can have all the black friends she wants. The racism is not about numbers.

Blacks have been demeaned as an ethnic group by claiming they were apes.

No one has ever likened the white ethnic group to orangutangs.

Given your avatar, I'm surprised you don't know that.

Don't forget the ape bit was only HALF of Barr's bigotry. She started with Muslim Brotherhood, a favorite right wing bogeyman.
Yes. The bitch was double-dipping on the racial/ethnic/religious insults. But, again, that won't stop some of the usual suspects. They'll continue to pretend that there's some non-racist explanation for her words and that the negative reaction is inauthentic, part of a plot to keep the poor white folks down.

Comedian makes racial joke, loses job. Oversensitive douchebag liberals complain, TV network caves.

People: just don't think you are making strides in equality and racism. You are not changing the way people think, you are merely silencing them. Keep sticking your heads in the sand and someone's bound to come along and kick your exposed ass back into reality.

War On Racism = War On Drugs = War On Terror = War On Poverty = Just Say No. Accomplishing nothing never felt so righteous!

Also, why can't you accept Barr's tacit admissions that her remark was racist in nature?
What the hell are you talking about? She said that she thought Jarrett was white. That is an admission that she was clueless about her actual race.

So then what is she admitting to?

You need to go back to comedy school if you think what she tweeted qualifies as a joke.

Also, that's yet another defense Barr hasn't tried to use. Why does she need white knights like you to explain what she meant?

Yes, that's one of the lies (like the Ambien nonsense) she's told to explain away her ********. The only true thing she's said is that there's no defense for what she said and that others (like you) shouldn't even try.

So when she's stating she looks like a love child of am ape and the Muslim Brotherhood she didn't know what she looked like?
Your honor, my defense is that when 8 made the remarks as to the appearance of the person, I was not actually aware of what the person looked like.

What makes you think that the bits you wanted her to say are any less of a lie than the other bits?

It's worth noting what the Planet of the Apes reference means for the Alt-Right.

It clearly was a pointed joke. Not funny, but intended to be.

Many jokes are offensive and unfunny.

Are we still in the phase where we pretend to not know the history of a well-known racist remark? I thought there was a 24-hour limit on that sort of thing.

What did she actually admit was wrong about what she tweeted? Did she admits to racism?

The reason why I'm asking is because you said that she gave an admission. But if she didn't admit to being racist then even her admission must be a lie. You implied that she was being truthful at that moment.

Are you the person who decides when Roseanne is telling lies or truths?

Bigotry is bigotry. You shouldn't get a free pass just because your particular brand of irrational hatred isn't "racist".

I agree. In fact, I often prefer the use of the word "bigotry" over "racism" for just that reason, and also because it avoids the inevitable sidetrack into a nitpicking dictionary battle over what is or isn't "racist".

But jokes about Trump aren't bigotry. They aren't about a class of people, they are about Trump.

They may be a lot of things, and many of those may deserve condemnation, but bigotry isn't among them.

Fair enough. I'm sure her intended audience of racists with double-digit IQs got some nice guffaws out of it.

It's truly a terrible joke even on that level, though. It lacks specificity and thus fails since an organization cannot conceive a child with a movie. Even a racist on Ambien should know to leave that as an unsent draft.

Is this ape from The Planet a black or a negro or a colored or an African-American?

I'm a human being with opinions, just as you're a racist with opinions.
This might be an example of the everyday racism that white people may face. Being accused of being a racist.

Always guilty until proven innocent and you won't be proven innocent. Just be quiet and take the lashes.
