BUt in this case apparently the Illinois GOP knew that Jones would probably run again, and should have recruited somebody to keep him from getting the nomination. That is why, from what Ihave read, the National GOP is not pleased with the Illinois GOP. It happened on their watch.

It isn't easy running a campaign that you know is going to lose. You have to be working the phones for donations as if you actually had a chance to win. Essentially you have to be dishonest to your donors. Reading the Sun-Times article about how he got on, it appears that he was something of a goofball in the past; in 2016 they got him thrown off the ballot because he cut and pasted signatures he got on a Senate petition to his House petition.

Actually it is way beyond possible, it isn’t even close to reality.

I wasn't assuming the national or state Party made any effort, and subsequent posts suggest that indeed they didn't.

To my mind it's yet more evidence that what was once a slick political operation has degraded significantly over recent decades. It's practically moribund, leaving the Party wide open to entryism - with the results we now witness.
