If Trump thinks teachers with guns will be so effective, how about he hires them as protection and sends his bodyguards to patrol schools?

While funny, this whole guns in school business is stupid for many reasons. Wouldn't it be better to adress the problem of school shootings so that it doesn't happen - or at least less frequently - than simply give up and say "more gunz"?

This is the guy coming after Trump. I know who's gonna win.
On Dec. 11, 1968, Mueller led a platoon of Marines into an eight-hour battle around an extensive complex of North Vietnamese army bunkers. The enemy hit Mueller’s men with a “heavy volume of small arms, automatic weapons, and grenade launcher fire,” according to a Marine Corps account.

As his platoon suffered heavy casualties, “Second Lieutenant Mueller fearlessly moved from one position to another, directing the accurate counterfire of his men and shouting words of encouragement to them,” the account said.

Mueller set up a defensive perimeter and “with complete disregard for his own safety, he then skillfully supervised the evacuation of casualties from the hazardous fire area,” as the Marines put it. Mueller led a team across the smoldering terrain and into a North Vietnamese-controlled area to recover a mortally wounded Marine. For that, he earned a Bronze Star medal with “V” distinction for combat valor. He was promoted to first lieutenant.

Does Trump usually wear a wedding ring?
He hasn't got one in the recent picture of his 'crib sheet'

We've now seen in at least two major incidents that trained LEOs won't engage, but Donnie Johnny and the NRA think Mr. Peeper and Miss Brooks are gonna whip out their Glocks and take down the bad guy. I think with the exception of Betsy de Vos, no profssionals in education think this is a good idea.

Everything the NRA knows about handling firearms they learned from watching western and cop movies.

Trump just made a speech at the CPAC that was over the top even for him. And was being cheered by the crowd.
And their guest of honor is a La Pen supporter from France.
THis is what Fascism, American Style, looks like.

Claiming that the church shooting was stopped by that guy is a bit of a reach, since the shooter had already finished killing people in the church and had exited the building.

I'll grant that he might have stopped further killing by the shooter, somewhere else, but killer was done with the church.

Peterson, the cop who spent the time Cruz was shooting up the school in Florida hiding behind a concrete pillar, might have been able to apprehend him after the incident (if he wasn't too scared of him), but it would have been too late to stop him from shooting up the school.

What is scary is that Donnie gives all the signs of being somebody who is really insecure about his own masculinity, therefore everything to him is a matter of being "Tough",and the heavy use of force is the answer to every problem.
This is bad enough in domestic affairs, but in foregin affairs it could be disasterous, and end up with a heavy and steady stream of American Body Bags comng home.

Grift, grift, grift, baby!

Soon after the Republican National Committee came under pressure for paying legal bills for President Donald Trump and his eldest son in the special counsel's Russia probe, it started covering expenses for the president's re-election campaign.

The RNC is using campaign funds to pay Trump's company more than $37,000 a month in rent, and to pay thousands of dollars in monthly salary to Vice President Mike Pence's nephew, John Pence, party officials confirmed this week. The rent pays for office space in the Trump Tower in New York for the staff of Trump's re-election campaign. John Pence is the Trump campaign's deputy executive director.

Campaign finance experts who spoke to CNBC said this type of spending by a party committee on behalf of a campaign is highly unusual but legal, and it appears the RNC disclosed it correctly.

Trump: we must do something about...
Psst, Mr Presudent, the NRA, they are right over there.
Trump: this is a huuge thing, and we can only solve this by arming the teachers.
Reporter: Mr President, school shooters attack between classes. The teachers stay in class rooms.
Trump: I’ll have to get back to you on that.

I thought the same thing.

Just posted it for balance.

To be fair, it is the closest to a good argument I've seen and does speak against the, in my view, incorrect idea that guns can never be use in the defense of self or others.*

But, do they think that the person would not have had an effective weapon under the various proposals? Very few are talking about banning guns outright. Do they think the NRA guy would have not passed a mental health check or better background checks? Do they think a ban on the AR-15 (not a very useful idea in my view) would have meant this guy wouldn't have had any firearm? Do they think he would have failed with a ten or five round mag? That he would have failed with a bolt or lever action gun? These all have different answers with varying degrees of debatability.

Perhaps they should not in effect take themselves out of the debate by insisting on nothing, that way they can more plausibly guide towards things that might actually have an effect (mental health support and checks, better background checks, capacity issues, etc) and away from things that will not change a damn thing (the angle of the handle, what the end of the barrel looks like, if it's made of plastic or wood).

*EDIT: The plausibility of some rando or even a semi-trained rando could help in an active shooter problem in a crowded school is very low in my view. Bunker shields and door locks are much, much more effective there.

Ban the damn AR-15 and the lot. You don’t need to riddle an elk or deer or ram with dozens of bullets. The government has the right to limit rights that they feel affects the whole in a negative way. Took your AR-15 away? Our thoughts and prayers for you.

You wouldn't actually have to ban it. You could just subject it to the same registration and licensing requirements as currently apply to full-auto weapons (except for the date of manufacture restrictions).

A week after his chief of staff ordered an overhaul of the process for granting White House security clearances, President Donald Trump on Friday blamed an overly rigorous background vetting process for holding up the approval of his son-in-law’s permanent security clearance.

“It’s a broken system and it shouldn’t take this long,” said Trump during a joint news conference at the White House with visiting Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

John Kelly announced that all White House employees with background investigations pending since June 1 will have their temporary clearances revoked as of today but the crackdown won’t affect Kushner.
