And having guns on campus is a good way for then to end up in the hands of students.
There's also the not insignificant risk of a teacher/teaching assistant/school janitor going postal. An adult intent on shooting up the school need only get a job in the canteen, find out who's carrying and then relieve them of their weapon.

And make the students pay for it.
For the analogy to work it would have to be the spree killers who pay for it.

I had the same thought. It might be almost feasible if we looked 30 years down the line, but not really even then, because so many spree killers commit suicide one way or another at the end of their spree.

I'm certain Mexico isn't full up with the would-be illegals, drug mules, rapists and murders Trump & Co. want "The Wall" to keep out... but Mexico as a whole is being (ostensibly) handed the bill.

The original analogy/quip holds (IMO)*.

From Jim Jefferies on gun control:

find the NRA to be hard work. The fact that they always think the answer is more guns. After Sandy Hook happened, the NRA said, and I quote, “None of this would have happened if the teachers had guns.” I… I think they’re forgetting what school was like. Does anyone remember that casual teacher that used to… Whenever she came into school, that relief teacher came, you and your friends would see her and go, [Chuckling] “Oh, we’re gonna make her cry.” And then she’d stand in front of the class with a bit of chalk and her hands would be shaking, and you’d go, “You’re never getting married, are you, Miss? Never gonna happen for you.” Then she’d get back to her 1967 Volkswagen Beetle, and she’d be crying over the steering wheel, just, “Why don’t they like me?” Let’s give that teacher a gun and see how things work out!

Still can't "edit" after the fact...

The "*" should have been... to be more accurate, "students" should expand to include their parents and the district's tax base.

OK, "the spree killers and their families" then. Not the students, though, that analogy doesn't work.

That's an easy fix: just charge extra for semi-automatics, magazines and bullets not purchased for gun ranges. Put the money in a fond which finances school protection.

We've talked about how the schools that allow guns on campus must pay higher insurance premiums. So: Taxpayers hafta to fork over MORE money so that students and staff can be LESS safe. Brilliant.

Plus you'd encourage teachers who know they probably shouldn't have guns to carry them so they can earn extra scratch. I thought Republicans were supposed to warn against Cobra-Effect situations.

The fundamental error is the idea that mass shooters target gun free zones. No. Mass shooters tend to target sites that have personal meaning.

Arm every child in the school: “no child left unarmed”. Ensure it’s with an American gun. MAGA.
Neil Stephenson's Snow Crash has a guy who has a nuclear bomb that will go off if he gets attacked and killed. The ultimate deterrent, apart from the dudes who want to die trying to kill everyone else I guess.

We're reading bruto's reply (quip) to alfa very differently then (much rum of an evening tonight, and it's late).

Maybe tomorrow I'll see it... maybe not.

(I'm surprised that the NRA hasn't been lobbying to allow passengers to carry guns on planes.)

Would this NRA member want concealed or open carry on an airplane to be legal?
Yes. Yes I would.
Egads! Did he really just say that?!
Yup, I sure did.
I think it should be legal for anyone with valid carry permit to be able to carry their gun on a commercial plane (domestic flights only, obviously) so long as they declare it to security and to the crew.

I know there are posters here who hate it when Trump is nit-picked upon. I'm probably even one of them. The problem with saying 'there are more important/valid things to criticise him about' is that I think it's just borne of fatigue. When you're the 'leader of the free world', every single thing you do should be a good example. He shouldn't be let off from the things that are only deemed of lesser importance by virtue of the frequency of his displaying higher-importance deficiencies.

He was quote yesterday: "They're ready to do things," Trump said. "They love this country. The NRA is ready to do things. People like to blame them, and they do have power and all of that, but they want to do things. I told them, 'We're going to have to toughen up.' It doesn't make anyone look good. We can't allow that to happen."

Maybe i'm misinterpreting, but to me this is Trump's biggest failing as a President and as a person (see my bolding above). He just doesn't actually care about other people at all unless there is some benefit to him in it. The people he brings jobs or infrastructure to are only tools for the enhancement of his image. I'd hazard that's even true for some of his family members.

It wouldn't surprise me if he need a cue-card to remind himself to say that he was listening in earnest to the words of grieving parents, but don't let that fool you into thinking that he's aware of his callousness.

Trump is bored with gun control already.

Tweeting about the great job ICE is doing rounding up thousands of MS-13 gang members and why you need the Wall to keep all you Americans safe.

Donnie world:
History shows that a school shooting lasts, on average, 3 minutes. It takes police & first responders approximately 5 to 8 minutes to get to site of crime. Highly trained, gun adept, teachers/coaches would solve the problem instantly, before police arrive. GREAT DETERRENT! Link

Real world
The only armed sheriff’s deputy at a Florida high school where 17 people were killed took cover outside rather than charging into the building when the massacre began, the Broward County sheriff said on Thursday...“He never went in,” Sheriff Israel said in a news conference. He said the video showed Deputy Peterson doing “nothing.” News link

I recently subscribed to the podcast “Trump, Inc.”

Recommended.

Have only listened to the two most recent shows. One concerned the rise and fall of the Trump Taj Mahal. I knew little of the whole fiasco and learned a lot.

The other concerned the interrelation of Fusion GPS and the Steele dossier and implied links between Trump and Russia.

Anyway, from WNYC, so high production values, though not as flashy as Radiolab. Still a good listen.

I agree. I think Trump would throw even Ivanka under the bus if he thought it might save his life. In my unprofessional opinion,he is truly a sociopath.
