The only time a graft attacks the host is with bone marrow transplants because some of your immune cells are made by the cells you are getting from a donor.

And Trump wouldn't have gotten skin from a donor, they'd have used his own skin typically from one's thigh. Or maybe they used skin from a tummy-tuck.

In my suggested scenario, he'd have had full thickness skin down to the hair cells moved and the defect (hole left without skin) replaced by half-thickness skin shaved off another place.

Doesn't surprise me in the least. People are far more familiar with the character he played on The Apprentice than they are with his long business history and tbh, he'd been pretty successful licencing the Trump brand. People don't have the time for nuance.
