CNN Doxxes a gif maker

So go ask him if it interests you.

I'm really not. I know for a fact that the GIF was not converted into a video, however.

I'm perfectly satisfied knowing that someone made something foul

Isn't that a bit hyperbolic? Showing Trump beating up a representation of CNN as a way of saying he's "taking down" the "corrupt" liberal media is not "foul". Silly, sure, but not "foul".

Fine. I really don't care. That's not the story.

Nope, it's not hyperbolic given Trump's rhetoric against the media in general and CNN in particular, and given the nasty response this has triggered in the alt-right. These people apparently believe the media (MSM as they call it) is the enemy, and I believe it's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

Also, even if you still don't find this **** foul, the guy created an anti-Semitic CNN-themed meme as well.

I conclude that the GIF is not the original but a copy of the original video, which raises the question of where the original is and, if Han made it, why did he take it down but not the GIF?

I think those are valid questions if we're to determine whether his confession and CNN's claims are accurate. It's very likely that he made the original video, but the GIF is not it.

Why would hanassholesolo say "someone put the sound with it" if he had created an mp4 with sounds ?

And he clearly claims creation of the gif - "my logo" ...

so .... quite a conundrum here.

It's the part of the argument I was addressing because it's something I know something about.

I'm not sure I buy the idea that the GIF or video were made with actual violence in mind. I'm also not sure that we can reasonably say that it could lead to violence against the media.

Well, since he's an admitted troll, I wouldn't put too much stock in what he claims from now on.

And I thoroughly disagree.

Ironically, buzzfeed dismantles CNN's ******** claims:

Note where han...solo admits he did not make the video that Trump tweeted.

But if CNN says so, that is good enough for some.

HanAssholeSolo's original GIF was uploaded directly to Reddit through native-image hosting — which means once the GIF was uploaded it became an HTML5 video file. So what does this all mean?
Someone downloaded the GIF that HanAssholeSolo originally posted to Reddit. Then that person cropped it to better fit a video player like Facebook or YouTube. Then they went through the effort of syncing it back up with audio from the original clip. Then that person put it somewhere where Trump or one of Trump's people could see it and download it. Then whoever found the video version had to get it to Trump's phone.

But hey, someone on the Internet knows that didn't happen.

I've explained to you in rather technical details why it couldn't happen. I even posted a ridiculously stupid scenario that made it clear why it couldn't, and you even agreed that the opposite scenario was more likely.

Do you really think that Buzzfeed is a reliable source? They go through the trouble of enumerating all the important differences between the two, to the point where they're not even the same thing anymore, and still conclude that it was just putting sound over a cropped GIF.

But hey, one link agrees with you, and the other one doesn't, so clearly the former must be correct, because reasons.

I was about to post that BuzzFeed link.

Notice in the apparent screen shot of HanAssholeSolo's original Reddit post, that the gif is larger and has the WWE logo in it.

That means, it would seem, that the gif we've seen is not the original. The one that was posted in this thread is apparently a cropped (at least) version.

TheL8Elvis, excuse my frustrations, but this is getting nowhere. Imagine explaining in detail to a moon hoaxer how you wouldn't expect to see stars on the moon pictures because of exposure, only to have him throw a link from a blog at you as evidence of the contrary and him calling you a random internet bloke.

This is the level of discourse we're having here.

Actually, you didn't. You might want to refer back to your own posts.
Technically, you're right. Someone could have gone through the trouble of finding an actual video of that wrestling match, then spliced extra footage from it onto bits of the GIF and made it so that you can't tell the difference, and added sound...

I even posted a ridiculously stupid scenario that made it clear why it couldn't, and you even agreed that the opposite scenario was more likely.

Your right, I still agree that making both from an original mp4 is the simpler explanation. But there is no evidence that happened.

That's an inaccurate summary.

Actually CNN agrees with, Buzzfeed agrees with me, and random internet dude disagrees with me.

But I have no doubt the general Internet sleuthing on this will continue. And the facts will eventually out, and I won't be surprised if someone took that GIF and added some content to it and sent it to someone in the WH, who sent it to Trump.

Good catch.

That was a stupid scenario to show you how ridiculous the idea was. For some reason you think it's entirely feasible.

That's an inaccurate summary.

It's very accurate. They talk about different aspect ratios, different colours, content, sound, etc. and we've been over the different resolution and FPS here, and somehow you and they believe that this is something relatively easy to fix. Well, no, not without additional content from another video (let's call this other source 'Q' ;) ). The problem is that this Q would be more complete anyway, so why would one need the GIF in the first place?

Actually CNN agrees with, Buzzfeed agrees with me, and random internet dude disagrees with me.

CNN is the biased claimant in this story, and Buzzfeed is generally unreliable, so I'd choose my allies more carefully if I were you.

And the facts will eventually out, and I won't be surprised if someone took that GIF and added some content to it and sent it to someone in the WH, who sent it to Trump.

I would. It would make that person both a computer genuis and a certifiable madman.

I disagreed with the part I quoted.

You only addressed the second part, then. You think it was done to incite violence?

Well, then that changes the whole thing, doesn't it? It means that the GIF we've all seen here (and for some reason, saw something different in it, like an apparition of the *********** virgim Mary) wasn't the GIF we were talking about to begin with.

And the funny thing is, it just supports what I said: that GIF we had couldn't possibly be the source of the video. It had to be another source (Q), and, if you are correct, it was!

Not necessarily with serious intent, but I do think violence is on the mind of the person creating such a thing.
