CNN Doxxes a gif maker

My peculiar lens is that I don't do political ideology and I'm a free speech absolutist.

In this very thread.
Surely, a free speech absolutist would have no issues with doxxing, since that's just speech. Indeed, a free speech absolutist should have no qualms about CNN's actions, I would think.

No such thing as an absolutist of anything. We all break our own rules when it's convenient.

Sigh what? Wikipedia has a pretty accurate definition of the term. You're hiding behind wordplay to avoid admitting that your use of the term was inaccurate, and now you act as if _I'm_ the one playing games? That takes some balls.

Seriously? You supported your position by insisting that the word table doesn't have a universally accepted definition. Table. Thats Stundie worthy. Table is in the dictionary, do you want a link to it?

Anyhow, so Wikipedia is your best definition, lets see what they say:

"Fake news is written and published with the intent to mislead in order to gain financially or politically, often with sensationalist, exaggerated, or patently false headlines that grab attention."

What did I say?
"fake news is inaccurate and or irresponsible reporting that is attempting to push a false narrative."

So thats basically what I said unless you're being overly pedantic. The intent to mislead is what I was referring to when I said the difference is a false narrative, I just didn't phrase that way. Are you always this pedantic?

Han A**holeSolo is allowed to have free speech. CNN is not permitted to have free speech.

I don't support suppressing others free speech if thats what you're asking. Do you?

No free speech was suppressed. Freedom of speech does not mean immunity to the consequences of that speech. HanA**holeSolo spoke up. It was noticed. CNN investigated, and then he apologized and removed the posts. He could have just as easy as told CNN to go **** themselves and not apologized.

CNN also exercised it's freedom of speech. They are also, right now, paying for the consequences of that same (stupid) speech.

How do you define false narrative? That is my sticking point.

Still think my definition is better.

The skeptic in me thinks that any smoking guns would have been leaked by now. Even Van Jones has admitted "Russia is big nothingburger".

Well the skeptic in me thinks that there is a lot going on behind the scenes that we don't know about. What we do know, and what has been leaked, is pretty damning though.

What the best evidence? That Russia tries to meddle in elections all over the world, which is something the US does as well?

Yea, it's not as if Trump looked right in the camera and told them to do it or anything.

I don't think you can call death threats against journalists acceptable consequences for speech tho.

I'm not, though those on the right seem to consider it such. I'm talking more about the open mocking, and continued gif and meme generation.

Do you have any evidence that CNN extorted him? Shady, yes, but no evidence of such.

"CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change."

seems pretty cut and dried for the extortion game anyway.

Perhaps. But there is no evidence that CNN extorted the reddit user into deleting all of his comments and issuing an apology. I'm not a mind reader, so I'll wait for facts, and evidence.

My problem with this is that you were referring to the article that CNN published, were queried on, and then retracted. Scaramucci, the guy who queried a part of the article that pertained to him, said the day afterwards:
"CNN did the right thing. Classy move. Apology accepted," "Everyone makes mistakes. Moving on."

In his view there was no intent to push a false narrative, which is central to your claim that it was fake news.

That makes the article irresponsible - which has been stipulated to. It does not make it fake, by your definition or wikipedia's.

I agree that the term is being used incorrectly. In this case by you, but especially by Trump.
