CNN Doxxes a gif maker

It's far, far beyond silly. CNN had the worst week imaginable for a news network and they follow it up with this.
Worst week imaginable? Although I'm not a fan of their story -- they should have published his name to start with, hold the clucking -- you've stepped boldly into the realm of hyperbole.

Somewhat relevant I'd say.

Gallup - Americans' Trust in Mass Media Sinks to New Low

"Americans' trust and confidence in the mass media "to report the news fully, accurately and fairly" has dropped to its lowest level in Gallup polling history, with 32% saying they have a great deal or fair amount of trust in the media."

"Ov
er the history of the entire trend, Americans' trust and confidence hit its highest point in 1976, at 72%, in the wake of widely lauded examples of investigative journalism regarding Vietnam and the Watergate scandal. After staying in the low to mid-50s through the late 1990s and into the early years of the new century, Americans' trust in the media has fallen slowly and steadily. It has consistently been below a majority level since 2007."

What is wrong with having someone ostracized or fired?

Because it won't stop with the people you want ostracized and fired.

Do you remember Justine Sacco? Do you think it was fair and just that she had her career ruined for making one joke?

That's 32% more than they deserve.

I don't think it's hyberbole. Peoples trust in media is already at an all-time low and as they basically fired three journalists for fake news. Then their own guys are getting caught on tape saying that Russia stuff is a bunch of ********e. What would you call it? When has a news organization had a worse week?

This is all I'll say since I've been warned to stay on topic, but defending myself from claims that I'm a white supremacist and asking someone to post evidence of that claim or apologize is being a jerk?

Shocker! He wasn't talking about you, but rather the turgid twerp who made the gif.

As for CNN having a bad week, yeah. They massively overreacted and fired three people for something that didn't merit firing. With this story, however, they are likely to gain trust from everyone but Trump supporters. It's nice to see that they aren't laying flat to be stomped on by Trump and his sycophants.

Because they should be above something so harmless. Its a meme . Just because it was directed at them does not warrant for their identity to be exposed on the internet where millions of people will have access to it. They're the ones that think they can do no harm and get away with it. Bullying a teenager into submission for free speech. ****** free speech but free speech regardless.

Hope the castle burns for them, and I can't wait to see it happen.

1. Han.A.Solo is not a teenager, he's a middle aged man. You shouldn't believe everything you read posted by the hacker known as 4chan. Honestly.

2. It seems to me that people are missing the point about the meme. The fact that Han.A.Solo created the meme (ignoring the technical details of gif/sound/edits etc - he did claim credit for it) is not the issue. Hisopinions about the news media in general and CNN in particular are irrelevant. His creation of the meme is neither here nor there apart from being a curious fact. It's Trump's usage of the meme that gives it the potential to be dangerous, because Trump has a platform that reaches millions, and there is potential among those people to rid Trump of his pesky priest. If Trump tweeted about a birthday cake he received from someone, I'm pretty sure the media would want try and find out who that person was that made the cake.

Han.A.Solo should never have apologised for creating the meme. When he posts it, it's a joke. When the President of the United States posts it, there are all sorts of implications.

Yes, maybe. I would like to hear arguments why it shouldn't have happened.

Bingo.

I think his apology was more about the anti-Semitic crap he had posted.

http://abcnews.go.com/International...-aids-africa-issues-apology/story?id=21301833
Justine Sacco, formerly a PR executive for the Internet giant InterActive Corp., which owns popular websites like Match.com, Dictionary.com, and Vimeo, was fired over a tweet that came from her account on Friday that read: "Going to Africa. Hope I don't get AIDS. Just kidding. I'm white!"

Anyone who publicly posts that type of joke is unqualified to be a PR executive. Removing unqualified people from their position is fair and just. Other companies not hiring an unqualified person is fair and just.

Not just anti-Semitic crap but posts disparaging Muslims, African-Americans and other minority groups as well. The kind of stuff you don't want an employer finding out about.

Yes, maybe. I would like to hear arguments why it shouldn't have happened.

What about Brendan Eich? Should he have been forced out of Mozilla for taking the same position on gay marriage as President Obama?

Where do you want to draw the line? And do you imagine that the braying mob will stop wherever it is you decide is far enough?

I think his apology was more about the anti-Semitic crap he had posted.

He also included a statement about the CNN gif, and imo there's no need for him to have done that. There's no way for him to have known that it would have been used by a person in a position of power to advance an established agenda.

And to say nothing of Richard Spencer, or Milo Yiannopoulos. Doxing Milo like that was certainly wrong as well. He had his career ruined for one dumb podcast.

Does a history of harassing people online or of racist and antisemitic posting change anything from your comparison to Sacco?

Cant counter the argument, claim fallacy. Got it

Wait , wut ? Why would would I bother to counter a non-sequitur ?

Are you honestly claiming CNN is comparable to the North Korean Govt ? :eye-poppi

You honestly think that the apology would have come if CNN hadn't threatened the guy. It just came of the blue? Are you that credulous?

Evidence CNN threatened "the guy" prior to him posting an apology ?

Or is this more "opinion" ?

See, I was gonna apologize for the facist remark but now it looks like you really have disdain for people who dare to disagree with you. How very tolerant you are. If you want to talk the merits or legality of what CNN has done, we can do that. But if you trade personal attacks, we can do that too.

 If you think I personally attacked you, report my post.

You have a problem with opinions? You know who else doesn't like opinions?

Have all the opinions you want. Just don't expect others to take them seriously.

Agreed, thats pretty fricking racist joke. That would fly in the 90s but not today.

No, it wasn't racist. You completely misunderstood the actual target, which was the sort of cluelessness of people who think their whiteness actually offers any sort of protection. The problem is not that the joke was racist, but that people can't understand ironic humor.
