My introduction to the Prince of Darkness - 1966 MG Midget:

LOL, when I was shopping for my first car in 1970, I found a review of the Midget that described it as "cramped obsolescence," but I test-drove one anyway. That description was spot on -- I particularly remember the way you had to sit at a slight angle because the pedals had to be placed to the side of the wheel well which intruded into the passenger compartment. Later in the 70s, one of my roommates had a Midget which was inoperable about 75% of the time, usually because of some electrical problem, so he was constantly bumming rides (in my beautiful and dependable Karmann Ghia :)). He finally traded it in, but for some strange reason, he went for another iconic Prince of Darkness car: a TR4! It was somewhat more reliable, but it had all sorts of weird lighting issues which were sometimes fixed by simply removing and reinserting the bulbs and fuses. :sdl:

I'm aware of the narrative that Trump is almost invincible with the Republican base ("I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters").
McConnell hiding his Trumpcare bill till the last moment shows the GOP knows that narrative is questionable at best.

Question is how many people who voted for Trump are Trump fanboys and how many would vote for Mickey Mouse if he ran on the GOP ticket.,and how many voted for Trump because they felt he was better then Hilary but held their noses while doing it.
The last two might turn on Trump with the idea with Pence you still have a good republican without Trump's baggage, but the first group rare hopeless. But I don't think the first group are quite as big a some people here think.

ANyway, it is the swing voters who decide elections, and Trump,by the polls, seem to be losing them fast.

Trump moves to protect the base.

The Trump administration has dropped federal support of an organization dedicated to countering white nationalist and neo-Nazi extremism, a Politico report revealed on Friday.

The organization, Life After Hate, was founded in 2009 and is run by a small staff of men and women who were once part of racist activist and extremist movements, and who now work to de-radicalize others involved in violent extremist groups.

In its final days, the Obama administration awarded the group a $400,000 grant as part of its Counter Violent Extremism (CVE) program. Life After Hate was the only group dedicated to fighting white nationalist extremism to receive a grant under the program.

As I've mentioned time and time again, Trump is a threat to US national security.

Trump AWOL On Stopping Next Russian Election Hack

The Trump administration has taken little meaningful action to prevent Russian hacking, leaking and disruption in the next national election in 2018, despite warnings from intelligence officials that it will happen again, officials and experts told NBC News.

"This attack is really the political equivalent of 9/11 — it is deadly, deadly serious," said Michael Vickers, a career intelligence official who was the Pentagon's top intelligence official in the Obama administration. "The Russians will definitely be back, given the success they had…I don't see much evidence of a response."

According to recent Congressional testimony, Trump has shown no interest in the question of how to prevent future election interference by Russia or another foreign power. Former FBI Director James Comey told senators that Trump never asked him about how to stop a future Russian election cyber attack, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who sits on the National Security Council, testified that he has not received a classified briefing on Russian election interference.

They see Trump for what he is.

Carrier workers facing layoffs feel betrayed by Trump

President told workers that 1,100 jobs would be saved, but 600 jobs will soon move to Mexico

INDIANAPOLIS -- A promise made before Christmas is fizzling before the Fourth of July.

In December, then-President-elect Trump told hundreds of workers at the Carrier manufacturing plant that he had worked out a deal to save their jobs.

But it's not working out that way. A steady downpour today did little to wash away the fact that the jobs of 600 union employees are going south.

"They're going to Monterrey, Mexico," said Robert James, president of the local union.

Reynolds said he felt betrayed, since Mr. Trump told workers during his December visit to the plant that 1,100 jobs would be saved.

"That is what he said was not going to happen," James said. "That's what he told all of us."

Works for billionaire Gates so why not? :)

My experience is with motorcycles where vibration is an even larger problem.

Maybe we better drop this before we all pay a pleasant visit to AAH.

Typical Tyson factoid - it's wrong.

Casual googling seems to indicate a typical apple is 70 mm in diameter and the skin is .3 mm thick. .3/70 is .00429.

Earth is about 12756 kilometers in diameter. .00429 * 1756 kilometers is about 55 kilometers.

Meteors (a.k.a. shooting stars) usually burn up in the mesosphere at about 70 kilometers altitude. Some call 100 km the edge of space. I believe this is where an upper stage can do its major horizontal burn to achieve orbital velocity without encountering prohibitive dynamic pressure.

But 55 kilometers is in the right ball park. I'm not going to add this to my list of Tyson flubs.

Perhaps the point of the comment was, actually, skin? Takedowns of Tyson usually involve alt-right nitpicking. When he has made factual errors, he is of the few who will own up, unlike his detractors.

I'm a registered Democrat and voted for Hillary and twice for Obama. I'm not alt right. Neither is P Z Myers. Or this writer. Or Dr. Novella (scroll to Those Darn Physicists).

I dislike Tyson because of his lack of rigor and accuracy. He will talk about important issues and make up fiction to support his point. By growing the IFLS crowd he is making America even dumber.

[side note]
It's pretty nit-picky to claim Tyson was wrong just because the Galápagos penguin skirts the equator.
The northern tip of Isabela crosses the equator, meaning that some Galápagos penguins live the northern hemisphere, the only penguins to do so.
The majority of the penguins are south of the equator.

And this from your link:
xenophobic demagogue Tyson falsely portrays.
Excuse me if I don't read any further down your page.

Excuse me if I don't read any further down your page.

Tyson did indeed falsely portray Bush as a xenophobic demagogue.

You will recall 9-11 was an emotional time when many people where angry at Arabs? Tyson has Bush taking this opportunity to "distinguish we from they.". Any child able to use Google can find Bush's actual 9-11 speech:

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all very much for your hospitality. We've just had a -- wide-ranging discussions on the matter at hand. Like the good folks standing with me, the American people were appalled and outraged at last Tuesday's attacks. And so were Muslims all across the world. Both Americans and Muslim friends and citizens, tax-paying citizens, and Muslims in nations were just appalled and could not believe what we saw on our TV screens.

These acts of violence against innocents violate the fundamental tenets of the Islamic faith. And it's important for my fellow Americans to understand that.

Moreover President Bush and his administration have repeatedly condemned anti-Muslim rhetoric. Colin Powell was one of the first to bring Kareem Kahn's sacrifice to public attention.

Bush did NOT attempt to "distinguish we from they". Neither in his 9-11 speech nor in his eulogy for the Space Shuttle Columbia astronauts that Tyson conflated with his 9-11 speech.

Eventually Tyson admitted his error and apologized to Bush. See Adler's Washington Post column.

How can you say his portrayal wasn't false when Tyson even admits it?

You may call yourself a skeptic but you are credulous. Like Tyson's birthers you will swallow misinformation if it reaffirms your prejudices.

Gee Bob that's tough. You say he promised you? Pretty much took him at his word, did you?

Atlantic City will be bigger, better than Vegas. Besides these beautiful casinos, we have an ocean. What do they have? A desert? Come on.
