Comey takes the president at his word that he was fired over the Russia investigation and to relieve pressure on it.

This whole thing is just stunning. I cannot imagine any other time in American history with any other president where that kind of direct action would not have resulted in impeachment.

They knew enough to keep Reagan waaaaaaay the **** away from Iran-Contra.

I know the usual suspects will try to defend this, but imagine what would be happening right now if Obama or Hillary were the ones confronting Comey that way.

This is a big moment. Our country may be in serious trouble if Republicans continue to place Party and self interest before country. Think about the precedent being set.

They won't ever be able to credibly complain if a Democrat does something similar.

If they think keeping him in office results in better policies for America while at the expense of their reputation isn't that country over party?

Comey was so stunned about the Flynn conversation that his only response was that he agreed that Flynn was a good guy.

Well, apparently saying something once means he said it three times just like Trump said.

According to Comey's prepared statement, he did say it three times to Trump.

1) January 6 Briefing

"In that context, prior to the January 6 meeting, I discussed with the FBI’s leadership team whether I should be prepared to assure President-Elect Trump that we were not investigating him personally. That was true; we did not have an open counter-intelligence case on him. We agreed I should do so if circumstances warranted. During our one-on-one meeting at Trump Tower, based on PresidentElect Trump’s reaction to the briefing and without him directly asking the question, I offered that assurance."

2) January 27 Dinner

"[Trump] said he was considering ordering me to investigate the alleged incident to prove it didn’t happen. I replied that he should give that careful thought because it might create a narrative that we were investigating him personally, which we weren’t, and because it was very difficult to prove a negative."

3) March 30 phone call:

"I explained [to Trump] that we had briefed the leadership of Congress on exactly which individuals we were investigating and that we had told those Congressional leaders that we were not personally investigating President Trump."

Comey: “I’ve seen the tweet about tapes. Lordy! I hope there are tapes.”

The response of an honest man.

Trump Junior has weighed in on twitter to this exchange:

Risch is now parsing Trump’s words in relation to Flynn, Trump saying he “hopes” Comey can let the Flynn investigation go.

Risch: “He did not direct you to let it go?”

A: Not in his words, no.

Q: Again those words are not an order? He said ‘I hope.’

A: The reason I keep saying his words is, I took it as a direction. This is the president of the United States. I took it as a direction.

Q: You don’t know anyone who has been charged for hoping something?

A: As I sit here I don’t.

Donald Trump Jr. (@DonaldJTrumpJr)
Hoping and telling are two very different things, you would think that a guy like Comey would know that. #givemeabreak

Just imagine what would have happened if the Attorney General had met in private with the husband of someone under investigation by the FBI.

Oh, wait...

See, it's not even your current outrage that I mind. It's your complete hypocrisy and ignorance about the kind of stuff that's been going on for a long time.

Comey's colleagues were as shocked as he was about the Trump trying to interfere with the investigation. They hadn't experienced anything like that.

Since it is not the same thing there is exactly zero hypocrisy.
