If only he had really done that he might still have a job. But no, he had to be a Republican lapdog - and look where it got him!
Comey got what was coming to him and I have no sympathy. Hopefully the FBI will finally start doing the right thing, now that they have figured out who the real enemy is.
There was no way Comey could have avoided enraging a lot of wall-eyed political hacks. But that consideration was a side note which shouldn't have affected his decisions. There is a certain freedom in the knowledge that you're damned whether you do or you don't.
Essentially, Comey had two choices: Finish up the investigation of Clinton and immediately report the findings, thereby clearing the air but enraging a large herd of wall-eyed political hacks, or keep quiet until after the election, thereby enraging another large herd of wall-eyed political hacks.
Then, when the emails were discovered on Weiner's computer, Comey again had two choices: Report to Congress that he had again been dragged back into looking into Clinton's emails, thereby enraging a large herd of wall-eyed political hacks, or keep quiet until after the election, thereby enraging another large herd of wall-eyed political hacks.
It is my personal assessment that Comey tried to choose the path that would do the least damage. He failed, because he didn't think his choices would alter the outome of the election. Either way he went, a suspect who was under investigation would end up in the Oval Office, and a large herd of wall-eyed political hacks would be enraged. I doubt Comey was thrilled about either suspect ending up in the Oval Office, but Clinton was clearly the lesser of the available evils. I've no doubt Comey knew that. Only a hopelessly politicized victim can listen to Trump speak for 10 minutes and not see there is something deeply wrong with him. Both the polls and common sense suggested that Trump couldn't win. I believe that consideration affected Comey's decisions to be open about the investigation.
This is the country's collective brain on politics. I am not taking questions at the present time.
To those who have found a convenient scapegoat in Comey, I say: the country's politics-drugged brain is not Comey's fault. As usual, there was the reflexive urge to choose a scapegoat, reward the guilty, and punish the innocent. Those urges have now been fulfilled.
Are we having fun yet?
