A good chunk of this thread has been a discussion if a prosecutor can investigate something if there isn't suspicion of a crime (general "getting to the bottom of this").

You might want to take a break from your unsupportable stance that there is no evidence of anything yet, and especially the assertion, "there isn't suspicion of a crime", and pay attention to current events which are changing rapidly.

Whether I do or do not think that there is evidence is irrelevant to the subthread taking place with philum about what a prosecutor is allowed to investigate.

Further, secret evidence should be the same as no evidence to a skeptic. When that evidence is presented, that changes it.

A prosecutor in this case is closer to a Grand Jury Investigation, which deterimains if a crime had been commited.

That sentence reveals a rather embarrassing ignorance of our criminal justice system.

You don't need access to secret intel to come up with a theory of wrongdoing. Presumably if you think there should be a criminal investigation, then you must have some coherent idea of what the crime might be. In order for there to be a criminal investigation, there should be a crime, no?

For a second there I thought you were going to back down, pretending your arguments only ever referred to a discussion with phiwum despite the fact you have not limited your discussion or your assertions to those posts.


Then you went back to the unsupportable BS you keep repeating.

Is there evidence? Yes, absolutely and it is not secret. It is public that the Russian ambassador's phone was tapped and that calls between the ambassador and Flynn were recorded. Had there been nothing on those tapes except the routine exchanged Flynn said the conversations involved, 1) he would not have resigned, and, 2) it would not be public knowledge that Flynn lied to Pence.

All three of these things are evidence.

I notice they are still protecting Pence, as if he was out of the loop, Flynn lied to Pence, etc. I'm not buying it. Surely they will find others in the circle, not just Flynn were involved. The elephant in the room is why are they not claiming Trump was out of the loop as well? And if not, why no mention of what Trump may or may not have communicated to Pence and why or why not?

It's possible that the desired outcome is to have Pence take Trump's place as President.
