You may be Pyschic, not mentally ill.

How did you handle each type?
I spent two years trying to work out the voices and at the end of it I decided they were idiots, therefore I was an idiot for listening to them. So I stopped listening and they just became background noise. But very occasionally a different voice said something sensible and meaningful, and once told me facts I did not know, so I concluded the spirit world can talk to me if they really want, but mostly they know I find it disturbing so they leave me alone.

Eleanor Longden gives a great wee talk on her experiences with the voices in her head - well worth the watch for a pro active way in which to approach the experience...from what you say, I think the video talk might be of great interest to you Scorpion...

The voices in my head [Video - 14:13]

It's jumping the gun just a little to get from a potentially bad diagnosis, and the poor psychiatric drugs available in the 60's, to therefore I have psychic powers and chakras are real.

In recent years I went to see a psychiatrist and talked about the chakras. He asked me what first made me interested in the chakras and I said I could feel them whizzing in and out of my head. He laughed to himself and obviously he thought I was delusional. I subsequently dispensed with his services.

Do you still hear voices?

To clarify - hearing voices and listening to the voices are different activities.
In hearing the voices you were trying to work out what was being communicated and it seems that the conclusion you came to was that it was idiotic stuff...(you do not give examples)...but how is it you think yourself an idiot...in listening to them, did you act on what was being communicated?

Did the sensible voice communicate that it was from the 'spirit world'?
Were the voices male, female, both? Did they speak in unison, or over the top of each other or one after the other?

Thanks for the link.

You are welcome. I hope that you watch it and learn something from it.

Faintly, in my ears, but they are too quiet to bother me. The voices that make sense speak directly inside my head, but I do not often hear them.

So the voices which don't make much sense seem to be more external in nature (in the ear)? What about your own thought-voice in your head - I assume it has a different tone that you recognize as your own voice while the other sensible voices are different?

Are you willing to give some examples of the sensible communication those voices give to you?

It's very poor practice if he laughed at you. Kind of staggering to me, actually, since I know psychiatrists work with delusional people all the time.

I don't think that skeptics will believe me, but someone may be suffering with the same condition, and for them I have a message of hope. All conventional psychiatry can offer is medication, accompanied by a negative diagnosis.

totally not my experience, they saved my life.

are they generally positive or generally negative?

I'm prone to hypnagogia when overly tired. Usually, it's the standard brief dream state occurring just before I'm about to nod off. Sometimes, instead, background noises will start to become muttering. They never form coherent words, but it's clear enough that I can tell that they're supposed to be voices.

Same here, the voices sound more like screaming words or names from a long way off. The state can last an hour or more, a little unnerving.

If the voices had nothing sensible to say why would I waste time listening to them. I certainly did not take any directives from them. The Yorkshire ripper did that and he was obviously not too bright.

The sensible voices could be male or female and only spoke briefly, usually to give me advice. They did not identify themselves.

One of the voices in my head was definitely female.

I already did that on the thread about going to a medium party. I said a female voice told me I would win on the lottery one hour before the draw, on the only occasion I did win.

The voices in my ears seem to try and seduce me into listening to them by saying things like, "you're not a schizophrenic you're a medium" but as soon as I start listening they revert to repetitive rubbish.

The voices in my head usually limit themselves to a brief phrase that consists of information or positive advice. But I very rarely hear them.

You may be mentally ill, not psychic.

There is no satisfactory evidence of spirits, chakras, predictive powers or telepathy. There are, however, known and studied forms of pathological states, neurochemical imbalances and mental disabilities.

don't you think if it was some form of being in touch wiht the great unconscious, it would have something sensible and deep and meaningful to say?

I say this as someone with a personal and family background in mental illness.
it's not always a negative thing, often I have found the more interesting, intelligent and successful people are out on that scale.

my brushes with mental illhealth have made me the person i am today.

There may be imbalance in my brain chemistry, and this caused emotional excess and nervous stress. But this in turn caused damage to my etheric body and my chakras. This caused negative psychic experiences, such as the feeling of fire flowing though the chakras. But psychiatrist usually take no account of such a possibility. All they can do is offer medication. But when I decided in 1971 I did not want to be a mental patient for the rest of my life and turned to spiritualism for help and healing I was given explanations that worked.

Yes, and if I were fully psychic I would expect higher communication all the time. In fact I sat in two psychic developing circles in the 1970s trying to break through the negative voices and reach more intelligent ones. But it was such a nervous strain I decided mediumship was not for me.

The heart of spiritualism has trance mediums who give lectures which are purportedly given by discarnate spirits using their mouths. These are often profound and spiritually uplifting. I refer to such mediums as Ursula Roberts, Grace Cook, and Ivy Northage. All of whose lectures I attended in the 1970s when they were still alive. You can find information about all of them on the internet.
