Trump runs for POTUS / Trumped Up! Part V

Making it a passthrough is a choice, though. No need for this to show up on your personal return unless you choose to take the losses personally or your creditors have forced you to take the debt on personally. If a business is doing halfway decent the debt is never personally guaranteed. But if the business is sketchy . . .

I think you're very confused. Passthrough refers to how his company is taxed, not to how liability for debts (or anything else) is treated. Didn't you have to learn about this stuff in law school?

And didn't he write the book on how to use other people's money and never take on personal debt? I guess that is something he learned in 1990.

Yup, he learned his lesson. I think he's been a pretty good businessman ever since.

What does this actually mean? Did he pay off the loans? Or were they part of the casinos' (not his own, as he frequently emphasizes) bankruptcy? Was he liable for the loans, and he transferred his liability to the casinos, or what? What did his guarantee cost him personally? He has claimed he made big money in AC even when his businesses went bankrupt. Either it's all his, or it's not.

It means that he, personally, was on the hook for $832 million when his casinos defaulted. IIRC, the banks forced him to sell a lot of his personal items, including his yacht:

I've heard the story before about the cabinet-maker who Trump screwed over. This article added a new wrinkle for me: The family members say they were shortchanged on the grounds they produced low-quality work, however Trump suggested they might do business again in the future. Whether or not Trump said that just to sound nice, I can say I've seen someone contract this way: my father.

He'd hire an undocumented worker named Antonio to do things around the house. On the last job, my dad paid $600 rather than the agreed upon $700. For my father, everything is a negotiation, and I can just hear him chuckling, "No, no, no, my friend. All you did was [blah blah blah], so six-hundred is MORE than fair." Today my dad wonders why Antonio won't return his phone calls.

Yet he claims to have made money in Atlantic City?

I believe that if you're the sole owner of a company, business losses count as personal losses.

Depends on how you set your company up. If you are a sole proprietor then yes. But a one person operation can incorporate and that separates your business income from your personal income. But then that shifts a few other things as well. If you incorporate you become an employee of your company and different federal tax rules apply.

Hundreds claim Trump did not pay them.
It's common knowledge at this point. His supporters don't care one lick. They're brainwashed.
I am not a Trump supporter but I will probably be a Trump voter. Here is why I am not swayed by those articles.
Trump has been involved with 1,000s? of projects some of them very large with many many vendors.
Trump appears to try to get projects done on time and on budget.
He does say he doesn't like to pay for work that doesn't meet the specifications.
He is not the one who is personally inspecting all of the work.
I would expect that some times the people who are not being paid did not fulfill their side of the contract.
I also would not be surprised if overzealous project managers have refused to pay the full amount for jobs that deserved full payment
Many times these disputes are not cut and dried as to who is correct.
So these suits are not enough to sway my vote.

I have been sued or countered sued a few times. When I read the claims from their lawyers I would have been convinced if I wasn't the other party. In my cases I won.
My employer was reported in an overtime dispute and lost and had to pay the back overtime like something mentioned in the article. They are not bad people and thought they had a case but the labor board disagreed.

He once stiffed a guy who supplied $100,000 worth of pianos to his casino. Trump claimed they were inferior, but he never replaced them and continued to use them in his casino.

Voting for someone is pretty close to the definition of supporting someone. I can't imagine that among all of the things he's done, you can still find something to vote for, but that's why we live in a free country!

<snip>

(1) and nobody knows more about akward and tone-deaf comments than Trump does.

Hard to argue with that.

I think it can safely be said that he does the very best awkward and tone deaf comments of any presidential candidate. Maybe ever.

And certainly more of them.

It isn't exactly a glowing recommendation of his fitness for office, though.

Way to rationalize that a conman is not really a con.

How does that square with Trump University? The condos south of the border that were paid for and never built? What he's hiding his tax reports? Four bankruptcies? His lie that he would self-fund his campaign?

The man is a con and you've rationalized he isn't one based on the fact you had a couple disputes of your own with contractors.

Sure.

For the sake of argument lets assume that every claim ever made about Bill and Donald's sexual history is completely true. They are both serial cheaters and they are both rapists.

Who would you rather have in office: An actual rapist or a rapist's long suffering wife?

(Admittedly this makes our lack of viable third party candidates seem like a real weakness in our system and maybe this is a good time to link to some Simpson's clips on YouTube.)
Trumps a rapist?

"Doc" I'm sure you need the narrative that Trump and Clinton are the same. But I'll just remind you Clinton is a serial predator.

No, I got that.

I really do believe that young men and women should be encouraged to enjoy consensual sex with proper attention to prevention of diseases and unwanted pregnancies. It can be quite enjoyable. Why would you not encourage such enjoyable activities?

Because sex outside of marriage gives us what we have. Young men who don't respect women.

None of what you said about him is real.

Who can forget the Trumpsperson in Ohio who declared there'd been no racism there before Obama was elected? And here you are declaring there was no sexism in the workplace before Bill Clinton became President.

Where exactly was I declaring that? Lol

The Republican Family might encompass your entire world, but in my country, where I experienced the change since the 60's, it has no influence at all. Europe has its own Kinder, Kuche and Kirche Christians, thank you very much. They don't need the party of Newt Gingrich to lead them to the true path.

Okay and this matters how?
As for Bill Clinton's influence, which wife or wives was Trump boasting about cheating on during the Clinton terms? Which wife or wives was Newt Gingrich cheating on, for that matter? Or Giuliani, got any info on his family values?

Wasn't it the Bushes who started the family values train? Any cheaters there?
Oh lordy, you're still stuck on Whitewater. And blind to Trump's loud and proud infidelities while imagining Clinton with hundreds of women that Ken Starr never found. What he did find was a BJ from an intern, and he didn't find that until '97 or '98. So this bad example you claim Bill Clinton was setting in his first term and a half wasn't actually there to see - except in the minds of certain Republican circles.

You actually brought up Whitewater, I only reminded you people got hurt from that.
I do have eyes to see, though, and in Trump we can all see a slimebag. In Bill CLinton - let alone the candidate, Hillary Clinton - we don't see the fantastical charicature that certain Republican circles have created for the sake of people like you.
Yes that is quite obvious.

Because sex outside of marriage gives us what we have. Young men who don't respect women.

You mean as opposed to the attitudes to women pre-1970's?

You know things like...

  • Women should be in the home raising kids, not in the work force.
  • Women should not have their own opinions
  • Women should be demure and respectful in front of men
  • Women should accept any abuse from their husbands because it was their fault
  • Women were valued by their husband not their own achievements
  • Women weren't entitled to the vote
  • Women were property of their fathers and then husbands
