Trump runs for POTUS / Trumped Up! Part V

He wants to knock out Common Core because one of the requirements to get out of the sixth grade is to be able to construct paragraphs of related thoughts utilizing what they refer to as "sentences". He's afraid Rich Snot Grammar will take away his primary school diploma.

I found the paragraph somewhat grating the first time I read it. But after you pointed out the complete absurdity of it, I noticed that Trump accuses bureaucrats of wanting to pick up the check. Pick up the check is an idiom that means to use one's own funds to pay for others. How unironic that Trump doesn't know the meaning.

So it looks like Ted Cruz is going to chicken out and support a guy who insulted his wife and accused his dad of being involved in the JFK assassination. About the only good thing about him is that is that he refused to support Donald.

She said:

“Every critic, every detractor, will have to bow down to President Trump. It’s everyone who’s ever doubted Donald, who ever disagreed, who ever challenged him. It is the ultimate revenge to become the most powerful man in the universe.”

Didn't Donald claim he wouldn't accept the endorsement even if Cruz changed his mind?

ETA: He said exactly that.

Ted Cruz won't endorse Donald Trump, but the Republican nominee said Friday he wouldn't take the support even if the Texas senator offered.

"If he gives it, I will not accept it," Trump said at a news conference in Cleveland at the close of the Republican National Convention.

I don't know but it certainly sounds like the kind of meaningless ******** that Donald would spout.

<OT>Also, Ted Cruz was only a marginally less scary candidate for President than Donald.</OT>

The great problem with the debate is the audience. Trump knows how to address the Cletus Spucklers.
On the Simpsons line, there was an episode when Homer ran for town Waste Commissioner or some such, offered the Moon - daily pick-ups, scented dumpsters, all for a tenth the cost - and won. The outgoing professional guy gave a concession speech which ran "You're screwed. Goodbye."

Clinton should consider that if she has to concede. It seems terribly apt.

In news that should be getting more attention: Feds investigating Donald advisor’s meeting with Russian officials seeking to influence U.S. election.

U.S. law enforcement is looking into Donald Trump foreign policy advisor Carter Page’s meetings with high-ranking Russian officials this summer, Yahoo’s Michael Isikoff reports.

Page, who Trump said was one of his five foreign policy advisors last March, is suspected of communicating with “senior Russian officials” about “the possible lifting of economic sanctions” if Trump becomes president, Yahoo reports, citing “multiple sources who have been briefed on the issue.”

One of the officials Page allegedly met with, Igor Diveykin, is “believed by U.S. officials to have responsibility for intelligence collected by Russian agencies about the U.S. election.” Russia is widely believed to be behind high-profile computer hacks that appear timed to influence the presidential election.

<ot> Wasn't that speech after they attempted to bring him back after Homer screwed up royally?</ot>

Or he's hoping Trump will lose and is establishing his party loyalty in preparation for the fall-out.
If so, it's a terrible strategy. When Trump loses, even if there are loud accusations that the Republicans who refused to support him are at fault, you can be sure that behind the scenes (where the power gets broked) the elite will be paying more attention to those who stood in opposition to him.

It worked for Nixon when he backed Goldwater but that's not the greatest role model.

It's also possible he was getting death threats from Trumers and Teabaggers. This may be about survival as the party radicalizes.

Another very interesting 'find' by Stacko and very troubling. I recently read an article about the ways in which Russian government officials and Russian oligarchs have colluded to enrich one another and the amounts of money involved are staggering. That's another issue I would fear if the impossible happened and The Don won the election. You want corruption, folks, real corruption?

[OT] I read how, as a sop to reform elements, a Russian police agency was empowered to investigate major corruption. Two of the investigators got their signals crossed and wound up arresting a Putin crony. One of the investigators was passionate about the rule of law and refused to withdraw his criminal complaint. Of course he was framed and arrested himself. When he still wouldn't crack -- despite looking at a ten year sentence -- they framed him on crimes that would carry a life sentence. When the guards came to get him, to sign his 'confession,' he took a header off the top tier of the prison cellblock. In a letter written beforehand to his wife, he apologized but said, "It is the only weapon I have left." [/OT]

But really the above is not off-topic. We know Trump admires Putin as a tough leader and this would probably be the "tough manly" type corruption I fear we would see from President Dumpster Fire. This is what's at stake. :(

They won't be looking for heroes or people of principle. They'll be looking for a winner, and would have no problem with Cruz's hypocrisy. Winners do whatever it takes.

You may be right, and the comparison seems particularly apt given how much Cruz seems to be hated by his colleagues...and everyone else who has ever spent any amount of time with him.
