Trump displayed a Purple Heart today, some vet gave him. Trump, of course, made it about himself, the vet "believed in" Trump.

:jaw-dropp

Words fail me.

On another note, a clip has surfaced with Trump saying he didn't get drafted because he had a high draft number in the lottery. So his story has been inconsistent between medical deferments and this new revelation.
If that's an accurate story, then the veteran's bestowal is a testament to his belief in Trump.

Depends on how accurate you think Trump's version is. According to an NBC reporter it wasn't the original but a copy the guy had made.

Once again, Trump trying to probably get off something along one line of thought, getting screwed up midway through and not putting the right words out there.

What I'm sure he thought he was saying.... "I have nothing but respect for our vets, particularly those wounded or killed in battle. Would that I had earned a Purple Heart, but I never had the opportunity or the pain that's associated with it. I'm proud to have this gift but can only say that unlike the brave soldier who gave it to me, at least I didn't go through the pain of being shot."

Or something like that. Instead, he embroiders the "it's really real" and steps all over his own lines. The guy can't be trusted off-script.

Non sequitur. I didn't say it wasn't what you say. It was a shot to kill an enemy and that enemy is dying. It's perfectly logic that you prefer to give the shooter a medal and organize a parade for him once he returns from "the front" and not to convict him for attempting murder instead.

I celebrate Kahn and organize my own parade. That doesn't mean that he isn't at least as BSer as Trump.

These forums are for sceptic purposes and education so I resent you use of "unfair" to characterize an analysis that I would like to see enbiggened by you instead, cromulant as it may sound. If you can't keep both planes of analysis separated, you are participating in the wrong forum (don't worry, mostly everyone is that way here :);))

Wow! And I thought I was cynical, but I'm not in your league. This is all political theater. And that was as good as it gets when it comes to political theater.

I can be as wonky as anyone, but people don't respond to minutiae. They get bored in an instant. I've seen both good policy and bad policy implemented because of a great piece of political theater. Sometimes, you just have to tip your cap when the opposition makes a nice play.

If there is a cumulative effect to Trump's craziness then it sure seems to take a lot of accumulation to make a difference.

Yes but with caveats. The people who ignored the crazy were at first, the result of decades of the GOP courting crazies to the Party for their votes.

The news media promoted the story, 'no one cares', because it was rather shocking. They kept it up a bit too long, but that's how milking news controversies go.

Now that story finally went stale, along with the fact the GOP divide is becoming the story, Trump is no longer playing to the fringe base but he continues to play the same song, (because he truly is crazy). So now you see the cumulative effect.

For the GOP regulars that are stuck between supporting the base that elected Trump and sanity, they continue to play the "he's not traditional" card as if that makes it all OK.

The ship is sinking. The rats are hesitating jumping.

I wonder if he knows what a Purple Heart represents.

I was reminded of the scene in "The Right Stuff". The new guys are looking at the pictures on the wall in the bar, and one says "I'm going to get my picture up there". Someone finally tells him you have to die to get on the wall, dumbass.

That said, I know some Purple Heart winners that are actually kind of embarrassed by it. Specifically, the ones that got one for a non-combat injury.

Of course it was one vet's belief in Trump. From my POV Trump's turning the incident into, "see how much people love me" was disgusting. To Trump and his supporters, they don't notice the extreme narcissism.

I think they do notice the extreme narcissism, they just don't see it as unattractive. He acts like a boss, and they like that.

<chaff snipped>

Sorry to see you're unable to see beyond the coarser emotional level of it.

"Political theatre" is as good an explanation of what's going on there as Christian Theology is an explanation of the universe where men live and die.

And yours is not the first time someone resorts to name calling when he doesn't understand something.

How damaged are his kids? My dad apologized by calling your son a hero. That's not an apology.

Actually, I'm seeing way beyond it. I was a political science major, was on both my high school debate team and received a scholarship to debate in college. I study and appreciate the art of persuasion. I have high praise for when it is done well.

I think you ran the train right off the track.

BTW, saying you're being cynical is hardly "name calling"

That's checkable. We'll see if it shows up on politifact.
