When I was watching the mother I realized that racists would assume that she was passively standing there obedient to her husband. She looked oppressed and sad. Of course it wouldn't occur to idiot racists that she was depressed and sad because they were talking about the death of her son.

His criticism of her allowed her to gain a voice and made him look like an cold callus man. There is one thing in this country that we do not do, forget the father, even though his speech was amazing. But we do not mock the mothers of soldiers who died serving our country.

He did and it gave her a voice to respond. So I think some fence sitters were swayed. I think a lot of people secretly plan to vote for Trump
I still think he has a chance of winning because saying you are going to vote for someone is not the same as actually doing it. I agree with Michael Moore that his people are more motivated to actually vote.

I also was thinking the other day that Trump has to be running on desperate right now. Above all he's a business man, he has royally ********** himself with this campaign. If he doesn't win he's going back to being regular old Donald but now he's alienated half the country.

So I doubt he'll still be the same success as he was before.

To answer the OP, call me cynical, but I fear not. My take is that the Clementine Kid will emerge from this episode pretty much the same as with so many others prior: bruised but not beaten. There's only so long before this story will have run its course, fading just as the next issue or event takes over the public's attention.

Whether by design or accident, Trump actually benefits I think from these controversies. Whereas Hillary has been subject to years of relentless repetitive attacks on a handful of issues, Trump's volumes full of missteps, lies, or displays of epic ignorance never individually last long enough to take root. An additional byproduct may be to reinforce in the public consciousness that, since they dissipate quickly, people, especially followers of his, can allow themselves to think there couldn't have been anything to them anyway, else why did they disappear?

Sir Sunkist is the Republican nominee for president. And with many, many weeks of news cycles and unforeseen events to come, who knows what if anything will effect the race and its eventual outcome. I can understand the, for lack of a better word, enthusiasm people are feeling with regard to this Khantroversy, but I wonder if it isn't fed a lot by pent up frustration that the man wasn't somehow stopped before and this time really feels like the beast may be slayed.

My view, again, is that the only thing that can stop him isn't what he does, it's what the majority of voters may do in November.

Snore. Hey, can you PM me when you think of something clever to post again? It's been a while.

Ooooh, snap. It's conservative humor taken from the Pee Wee Playhouse book of sophisticated put-downs. "Ha ha. That's so funny I forgot to laugh." Good one. "Snore"? You need some rest? Defending the indefensible is hard work. I know,... I was on the Re-Elect Al Sharpton Committee.

I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your waiter.

With you and Donnie Small Hands offering up great hanging curve balls by the hour, I have everyone at a disadvantage. By the time I get up in the early morning here you guys have been going at it all day-your time, and I can just pick and choose your rashest or most ill-advised posts. I have to say, though, that some of you are making it tough; there's a veritable cornucopia of material to choose from.

I think it's important to keep in mind that there is a big difference between winning the Republican primaries and winning the General Election. Excuse me for this joke. But it is Yuuuuge!

I liken it to a baseball player is knocking the cover off the ball in triple A hitting .325 and and then gets promoted to the bigs and can't hit .150. You never really know until they face big league pitching.

Trump received more than 13 million votes yet Clinton won almost 16 million. Now Trump must win around 65 million votes.
And this so called winner has led the race for no more than a couple of days while Hillary has had the lead for 2 months. There are no more Ben Ghazzi hearings or FBI investigations. So unless there is some real Hillary bomb that we haven't heard of, or Trump changes into a totally different person , I think Trump is toast.

I can guarantee that HRC will run a very disciplined well funded professional campaign whereas Trump is flying by the seat of his pants on a shoestring. And the Democrats are going to bait him and bait him and bait him.

She found Superman's Kryptonite.

I think the news that Trump was doubling down on his attacks on Kahn has an impact.

Unlikely, these polls likely have the DNC bounce, which seems a lot higher for Hillary, 8-10 points, but with the Kahn story still ongoing, I would not expect to see the results of this for another few days yet. The question is, how much further can he drop?

That's not so clear to me. If I were to guess, Trump has more support from the armed forces than from the general public, just given their bent for conservativism (not that he's a good representative), populism and lack of education (among the enlisted). Are there any polls that cover this question?

This may have been true in the past, but thanks to the recent repeal of "Don't Ask Don't Tell", the decision to let women into all combat roles, not just a few, and the decision to allow transgender persons into the military, I think you can safely say that the bent toward conservatism in the military is changing to a more centric view that the Donald's stance just does not agree with. I doubt it will ever lean fully into the "liberal" mindset, but I don't think one can say the majority of the US Military has the knee-jerk reaction to vote strict Republican any longer.

I would also point out that most enlisted personnel have at least a high-school education and often attend multiple schools while in service, so I'm not sure one can say they have a lack of education either. Sure, it's not conventional education necessarily, but it's education nonetheless, and enlisted and officer alike are encouraged to learn and implement forms of critical thinking during the course of their career to better ensure they will be the best soldiers possible. Officers and senior enlisted will usually, if they're competent, do their best to remove the youthful impulses toward knee-jerk reactions in the lower enlisted as well.

I can't speak to the whole military, obviously, but I'm around military folks every day, literally, and have spent my time in uniform. I don't know of very many military members who think Trump is anything other than a complete moron.

Am I reading it right?
Trump is sying Khan is against his immigration policy because he wants terrorists in the country?

Doubling down, tripling down, sadly I don't think it'll make one bit of difference on election day. In the months between now and then, this will go the way of all of Trump's other outrages - remember how his attacks on the "Mexican" judge were going to be the end of him ? Now that whole affair is largely forgotten. As they say over here, today's headline is tomorrow's chip-wrapper (although newspaper is no longer used to wrap fish and chips).

Trump still has the wholehearted support of the GOP machine and, barring a few notable exceptions (respect to them IMO), the major figures in the Republican Party. FOX are still fawning all over him and the other networks continue to give him exposure. It's likely that the GOP and/or Trump will find something to get the country outraged at Hillary and the polls will start to even out again.

It's difficult to tell with Trump, that's certainly the most direct reading of it.

Then again we are assured that Trump threatening to hit some little guy so hard their head will spin is merely The Donald promising to unleash his devastating rhetoric to such effect that the person referred to will be dizzy

Donald J Trump seems to put several loosely related ideas together in a sentence, seemingly inviting the listener to draw their own conclusions.

edited to add....

I note that the reporter didn't take the opportunity for him to clarify this position and instead sent down another easy pitch for Trump to continue his message that Americans should be frightened because they are surrounded by thousands and thousands of Islamic terrorists

I swear Seth MacFarlane and Matt Groening are secretly writing all Trump's autocue cards.

Is it particularly newsworthy, no? Would George Stephanopoulos have sandbagged Hillary with a question about Patricia Smith?

LOL what? Sandbagging?

I doubt it. Chris Wallace actually asked Hillary about Patricia Smith, and I she gave what I thought was an offensive answer after mouthing the politically correct platitudes.

LOL What? How is what she said offensive?

She also lied, claiming that other family members of those killed in Benghazi disputed Smith's story. In fact, family members of two out of the three others who were killed (in addition to Sean Smith) corroborated Smith's story.

LOL What? Please provide some evidence that so many have bought into Patricia's delusions.

I swear Seth MacFarlane and Matt Groening are secretly writing all Trump's autocue cards.

Or a very long real life South Park episode.

Yeah. I see the "Khan is against my Muslim ban" and "we let thousands of terrorists in" as separate ideas.

It's just that Trump is such a terrible communicator. He seems to have a tendency to just ramble, smashing multiple related-but-disconnected thoughts together.

Well, I look forward to your explanation why this guy, Brian Duffy, the head of the VFW, has any kind of special moral authority. He is an advocate for veterans. It is to be expected that he fights to preserve the taboo against criticizing the families of veterans.

So predictable.

It wasn't even a hard question to answer. Donald just ********** it up because he's an idiot with a severe personality disorder.

Well, what would you expect from a grown up Cartman?

**Note I said "grown up" not matured.

And Trump's inability to put a cork in it will make it worse.

What's kind of unknown is how much lag time is there after events to understand their full effects.

How much of the present Clinton momentum is the convention bounce? And when will we know the full effects of Trump's Phyrric war with the Khans?
Will it keep getting worse for Trump? I said yesterday that this was good for 5 points. Now I'm wondering if I low balled it.

And even worse for Trump, the fight with a Gold Star family may be alienating voters permanently.

The highlighted are the same thing, are they not? If it weren't for the convention, we'd not know about the Khans and there'd be no fight.
