Likely vice president running mates 2016

He has no money. If he has to spend money in Texas it's a major thing. It should be a solid red state but if Cruz gets shunted aside at the convention, Johnson could pick up a lot of votes there - enough to to at least put it in play.

Plus, Texans do love themselves a "native son". I agree that Trump has solidly driven the Hispanic vote to the Dems, but I think he's done that with any sane demographic .

Yet, I remain worried. But maybe that is an irrational fear. I can't imagine either party spending much money in Texas. It's as Red as California is blue. BTW, you mentioned Johnson (?????) Who? I thought we were discussing Julian Castro as the Hispanic from Texas.

I think Pence or the crazy general is the way Trump goes.

And I still think Hillary picks a more traditional "fill-the-gaps" demographic pick. She doesn't need someone from the Northeast, particularly NY/NJ. She doesn't need another woman on the ticket. I realize that neither of those is the sole reason for picking Booker or Warren but I don't think their subsidiary bonuses [pleasing the progressive wing and pulling more black votes, respectively] are areas she's concerned about.

I still think she goes for a Hispanic, and probably someone from TX or the West. She's a fairly old school politician and I think the Hispanic aspect is secondary - the appeal is to the western independent-minded voter.... and putting TX/AZ in play.

I am still surprised that Pence is even interested. I thought he had a future in the GOP.....

My Step mom thinks that Joe Biden might be Hillary Clinton's running mate.

It would have been an interesting choice but yesterday Biden announced he is not interested in being Clinton's VP. He will work hard for her campaign but not as VP.

Sorry, posting links is difficult on my phone, if you search Google News for "Biden Clinton" you'll find articles about it.

It would surprise me if Biden signed on as VP. I think he was done after the death of his son and who could blame him? Biden has suffered some serious tragedy in his life and I'd bet retirement sounds like winning the lottery to him.

I predict that Hillary Climton will announce Bernie Sanders as her running mate at tomorrow's rally thing. If I am wrong, I shalll change my avatar. If I am correct, I might change my avatar anyway.

I was wrong. I changed my avatar.

I think Biden is really looking forward to retirement.

Being VP is being retired. The job has a single function only. A function not performed even once by Joe Biden and that is breaking a tie.

A lot of political journalist are pointing out that Pence has remained pretty much silent on the Veep possibilities. He has not said he would refuse, but has not said he would accept. He seems to be keeping all his options open.

"Hillary Clinton's campaign is vetting retired Navy Adm. James Stavridis, a four-star officer who served as NATO's 16th Supreme Allied Commander Europe.
Stavridis, who currently serves as the dean of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, is being formally vetted, according to two sources familiar with the process.

WTF?

"A senior Democrat close to the vetting process told POLITICO the Stavridis float might be a bit of political psy-ops intended in part to spur Trump into picking Flynn — whom the Clinton campaign views as a disastrous choice who would hurt the Republican ticket."

Slick!

I honestly don't get this bizarre notion that flag-level officers are presidential/VP material. It comes up every election, some general/admiral is floated as a potential Pres or VP pick because....reasons. Nobody could even tell you what their politics are most of the time, but they supposedly make Good Leaders, and that's apparently enough.
