It certainly looks like it. After he sacked Hilary Benn his Shadow Cabinet are queueing up to resign. live updates

I wonder who'll be next, given Labour's election system? A Blairite 'suit' wouldn't go down well with the punters but maybe vote-fatigue will kick in.

Maybe Benn himself? He made quite a pitch for it a while back.

Good riddence. I'm a Labour supporter (Labor in Oz) through and through. But an unelectable leader is, well, unelectable.

My goodness, I hadn't expected that.

Well, Corbyn could hardly have set Benn up more prominently to be his successor if he'd tried.

Oh great. Both major UK parties now involved in internal bitch-fights.

It doesn't matter who is in charge of Labour as they don't seem to have anyone in their ranks capable of anything other than politicking.

It occurs to me that this void in the management of both main parties gives Sturgeon an opportunity to consult EU leaders with impunity.

Her direct approach to the EU is presumably an encroachment on the UK government's monopoly on foreign affairs in which she has no constitutional right to meddle, but is anyone in Westminster currently in a position to do anything to punish her presumption?

Quite possibly. Although protocol will mean that the EU will not involve itself in formal talks or agree to anything in writing.

One issue that the SNP will have if they are honest is that they are offering the choice between Scotland in EU or UK out of EU but they can't ACTUALLY promise that an independent Scotland will be in the EU. It's likely they would be, but it's not a given and nothing from the EU will make any promise that it will be prior to the vote. Even more importantly the terms of membership - current UK terms or new joiner terms - will not be clear.

There's a chance (a small one) that Scotland would be out of the UK and out of the EU. If I was pro Union that's a message I would be pushing strongly.

I hope Corbyn stands for reelection and receives a resounding mandate. Labour MPs need to be taught to begin listening to their members and constituents.

And perhaps a man of vision with true leadership qualities will appear to unify and lead the rest of the country back to greatness?

I always think that small, wiry men have that kind of aura, and all the better if they have one of those toothbrush moustaches that lend such an air of gravitas. A black one of course; fair is so namby-pamby.

I see the North Minehead constituency has a by-election coming up, which could be a good place to start. I hope our new leader will take note of the fact that Calais was illegally annexed from its true place in England all those years ago and take decisive action.

You haven't seen the poll then which showed that nearly a third of people who voted Labour at the last election (and that was an incredibly poor vote in itself) wouldn't do so again if Corbyn remained in charge? If you have seen it, perhaps you consider that losing another hundred or so MPs is a price worth paying to make sure that people listen to all the £3 members?

Action against France, for its annexation of Calais in 1558, or decisive action also against France's ally of those days?
Francis II (French: François II) (19 January 1544 – 5 December 1560) ... was King of France from 1559 to 1560. He was also King consort of Scotland as a result of his willing marriage to Mary, Queen of Scots, from 1558 until his death in 1560.

It doesn’t matter ehat Labour voters think. It's party members that have the choice.
I think, looking at the voting last time Corbin would win another vote if he stood again otherwise it will be someone else from his end of the party.

In response to a resounding demonstration of how far out of touch the political classes are with the electorate, the PLP seeks to remove the leader elected by the members of the Labour party. Seems sensible.

Scottischer dogs! Zey vill be ground into the dust! Und zere is Lebensraum in the Scottisch Border!

But to summarise:

Lab and Con are ripping themselves to shreds, LibDem are in the wilderness, Greens and UKIP nothing more than a fringe. Whichever of Lab or Con can get its act together quickly could score heavily. My money is on Teresa May (literally) and the Cons as I'm more and more convinced that Johnson really wasn't planning on this outcome. Benn is the only obvious choice I can see for Lab, but he's a pompous, self-serving twat. Maybe that's what they need (heaven help us).

I'm off to jump out a window. :(

Historically, Taunton is a part of Minehead already.

It would actually be nice to have some one from either party that I could have some confidence in as a national leader even if I completely disagree with their policies.

If party members were to select (again) a leader who they know would deliver them a third fewer votes than at the last election, and therefore guarantee a Conservative government for the foreseeable future, then they are terminally stupid and their party deserves to die.
