Bullish on Bernie: The Bernie Sanders 2016 Thread II

 Somewhere I had the idea you hated Clinton. Glad to hear you don't.

Hey my wife's voting for her too! ;)

I had actually posted the same basic message before: I was very impressed with Hillary's performance as my Senator. She's got a great work ethic for one thing. I was employed in manufacturing, mostly in operations, but when I worked in a technical position I had a woman boss. She was the best, most supportive boss I ever had. Very smart woman (with a PhD), very hardworking, very conscientious. Like Hillary but on a smaller scale.

The continued deregulation of Wall Street under Bill Clinton probably deepended the 2008 economic collapse, also full stop.

See this paper from the Center for Economic and Policy Research for examples:
http://cepr.net/documents/publications/dereg-timeline-2009-07.pdf

The main item people mention in terms of deregulation, repealing Glass-Steagall, was a Republican deregulation initiative that eventually got passed. This does not absolve Bill Clinton (he could have vetoed it) but it was not something he orchestrated.

Below is a post I made about a year ago on the subject, I copied it because it's easier than redoing the links:

In 1999 Clinton signed the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which repealed some of Glass-Steagall. It was not a Clinton initiative however, Gramm, Leach and Bliley were all Republicans.

In the Senate the Bill passed by a vote of 54-44, but the split was:

Yea: 53 Republicans, 1 Democrat
Nay: 44 Democrats

The vote in Congress was more bipartisan but still heavily Republican:

Yea: 207 Republicans, 155 Democrat
Nay: 5 Republicans, 51 Democrat, 1 Independent

While I still support and advocate many similar, progressive, public policies, a thorough examination of his climate and science policies have forced me to downgrade his candidacy to "lessor evil" status.

In accord with this, I will no longer contribute to, or support his campaign, or any other major party candidacy this year.

You're heading down a path where the only people you'll be able to vote for are fictional characters.

I realize that. And as you say, it does not absolve Clinton. All wanted to convey, os my astonishment at touting a "mostly truth by omission" as some sort of vindication of the Clintons' politics. They ********** up, but sure, that wasn't the only, or most important one. Great.

ETA: By "they" I mean the Clinton administration, not the Clintons. The fact that Hillary doesn't want to reinstate Glass-Steagall is understandable, given its toothlessness in isolation.

Aside from the ridiculous deadline of October for registering/changing party affiliation in New York, it looks like many are suddenly finding their party affiliation has changed and they are unable to vote for their candidate in the primary.

If not for this I think Sanders would win New York but as it stands he will lose.

If it wasn't for voters own mistakes ?

In comments to ThinkProgress, New York state Board of Elections spokesperson Thomas Connolly confirmed that he had been receiving regular complaints about allegedly manipulated voter registrations — specifically complaints that party affiliations had been purged.
But Connolly also said that each complaint he’s followed up on has been due to a mistake on the voter’s part.“I’ve yet to come across [a voter registration] that’s been maliciously changed,” he said. “There’s always been a legitimate reason.”

Sanders is already blaming the closed primary, he thinks he'll lose 3 million votes. It will be interesting to see how much she wins by.

I get it he thinks it's unfair but it's no less fair than losing because you can get a bunch of college kids to fill up a caucus. Ron Paul was also good at that but it represented a disproportionate number of actual voters.

The problem is that fictional characters are all most people are voting for now. If people aren't willing to hold the representatives they vote for to any firm and principled standards it is simply delusional to think that those representatives will hold themselves accountable to such.

Think Progress. lolz, now there is a *********** oxymoron. Pack of establishment hacks bought and sold by the Clinton Campaign.

Considering it looks like there were only 2 million votes cast, I think this is a serious over prediction.

His claim -- valid or otherwise -- is that as many as 3 million independents and Republicans might have voted for him if they could have, but would have had to change their registration to Democrat by last October 9. Three million is the number of NY voters registered in other than Democratic and Republican parties.

Well, on the otherwise spectrum, that's a stupid *********** claim.

Assuming there's any reason to take at face value the unsupported claims of the mouthpiece of the election board of an acknowledged Clinton stronghold, sure.

If there's anyone who has a vested interest in ensuring a fair contest for Sanders, and an honest appraisal to the voting public, it's the New York state board of Elections. If their spokesperson says a thing, then of course it must be true.
